Hauppauge reboots PC

Hi,

I've just bought a whole new PC system (based on the Shuttle SB51G barebones PC), installed a new copy of XP home edition, and a Hauppauge PVR-350.

I find that the PC is rebooting whenever I run any application that uses the PVR card (either Sage or even the WinTV apps).

If I start WinTV or Sage and look at the live TV (S-video from my cable box), I get maybe 5 seconds of TV, which then freezes (but the sound continues for another 5 seconds), and then the PC does a hard reset and reboots. No error message displayed or anything.

Does anyone have any ideas as to what might be causing this?

To be fair it's not really a Sage problem, as it happens even just using the applications that Hauppauge provide. I've emailed Hauppauge support and I've tried the beta 1.7 drivers for the card from the Hauppauge site, but it still happens.

Any suggestions would be gratefully received!

this could be a system crash.
try this:
in the start menu, right click my computer, properties, advanced, startup and recovery, settings, un-check automatically restart. If you get a blue-screen now, it's a system crash :)

also, you may want to go grab prime95 and run torture test. install motherboard monitor to monitor system temps.

You may also want to try lowering the FSB and memory timings in the BIOS. If that makes your system more stable, try a different brand of memory.

I disabled auto-restart and I do get a blue screen.

The error message says:

DRIVER_IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL

and later under the Technical Information it refers to ALCXWDM.SYS.

I'll try reducing the memory speed as you suggested and see if that helps.

Follow up on this...the ALCXWDM.SYS is related to the AC'97 audio chipset. I upgraded to the latest driver version of this, and that seems to have sorted out the problem.
