Now that Mlbdude has included support for Comskip in his SageMC 16x9 STV I was wondering if anyone has had any success in configuring Comskip for use in the UK?
Care to share your Comskip.ini file? ;)
Cheers,

I think that I read a post(last month) with someone(ukmgranger) having some success with it.
I haven't gone into it yet since I was under the impression that it works by monitoring closed captioning(cc) data and here in europe we don't have that so it's not going to be accurate.
If I am wrong I stand corrected and will spend next weekend trying to get it going. :)

I'd seen ukmgranger mention that he(?) was taking a look at this, but no idea of the success.
I know what you mean about CC, but the help file lists several dozen different settings that you can adjust to configure comskip. It looks like it will also sense levels of black in the image (amongst other things) I guess to detect the transition into/out of adverts.
I guess I'll have to read the documentation more and play with some settings to see if I have any success. ;)

I works using te defualt settings, but only patchily. It gets about 10-20% of ad breaks right. UKTV (eg gold, history etc) channels seem to work best, but I don`t know why.

I read an article in an electronics magazine recently which detected adverts by the absence of a channel logo. Could it work in the same way?

Comskip does do this, but this again only works on some channels. Many now have the logo on the ads as well
