View Full Version : Sage Can't find Capture Card (PVR-250)

I installed a second hard drive (and accompanying Promise IDE module) for additional storage and it may have done something to SageTV. Sage no longer sees my Hauppauge PVR-250 as a capture device.
It still appears in my System/Device Manager as working properly. I even installed WinTV2000 and that works properly. Not sure what is going on here or how to correct it, anyone??
*If I could just leave well enough alone, I probably wouldn't have these kinds of problems*

Something that may be of note. Every time I start up Sage now, it goes right to the Setup Wizard...
If I hit enter the next screen asks about capture devices but appears blank. I can cancel out of that (home key) and still play all previously recorded shows just fine, but it is not populating the guide or recording new stuff.
In the system information tab it shows, for example: Last EPG Update: Never, Next Update: Never, Recording: Nothing, Default Quality: null, Watching: nothing

You can try uninstalling and then re-installing the drivers for the PVR250. You didn't by any chance move the card into a new slot, did you? Sometimes this confuses Windows or other programs. Also may be an IRQ conflict with the Promise controller.

The device works fine when using WinTV2000. If the IRQ did change when the Promise controller was installed, windows found it properly, but maybe Sage did not.
Is there a way to make Sage scan the system or something. I tried reinstalling Sage right on top of the other installation but this did not correct it.
Narflex, any ideas?

Nerflex, I have a similar problem. The pvr-250 car is working, I reinstalled wintv2000 and it works. I decided the forget the beta and go back to the real release. I uninstalled the newest beta, then tried to install 1.3.8. No dice. I get a java exception error
java.lang.nullpointerexception
ok, what do I have to do now. I tried reinstalling java 1.4.1 but that didn't help. I'm a bit POed because the server is running under win2k and there is no system restore to undo whatever has been done.

Try reinstalling Java? That seemed to fix me a couple times when I started getting java errors.

I tried that (remove then install java) didn't work. I decided that now was a good a time as any to rebuild the partition with the os.

Check your Sage.properties/SageRecorder.properties file for this line:
mmc/ignore_encoders=
If you see your Hauppauge card on that line, remove it from that line, and then give it a shot. Let me know if that was it.

narflex, thanks, everything is working now:goodjob:

In fact, that is exactly what it was. I removed that line from the properties file and restarted SageTV.
It then had me go through setup from scratch including channel selection. It still had my favorites in there...
2 remaining problems.
1. It moved all of the programs that it previously recorded into the errant folder and out of the lists of both Sage Recordings and Library>TV Recordings... any way to get them back without losing EPG data?
2. The Hauppauge remote no longer functions. What do I need to do to get this functionality back??
At least it is recording new shows now... thanks. Any idea what caused this?

I don't know if this would make a difference or not, but are you sure you put a check in the box to install hauppauge remote support. When you reinstalled and ran the SageTV setup wizard.

Thanks for the suggestion, justme, but that's not it. I reinstalled (making sure the Hauppauge remote support was installed) but no joy.
Remote functions in WinTV2000, but not in Sage, so it's connected correctly and functional. It worked prior to this episode...

That's strange. From what I've seen SageTV just puts some extra settings in the irremote.ini file(mine is in the windows dir). It looks like it mainly just assigns keyboard letters/numbers. So if the remote works with WinTV then I'd guess that either somehow those settings were messed up OR the keyboard mappings in sageTV aren't set up right. I've attached my irremote.ini file just in case that can help you. Sorry I can't do more but I'm literally going out the door on vacation.
Best of luck:)

Thanks, justme, but I tried adding that information to my current irremote.ini file as well as replacing it completely. I also restarted both SageTV and Restart IR between each attempt.
Didn't seem to help at all... still no remote function.

well it happened again. I "upgraded" from 1.3.8 to 1.4.7 and again sage has lost my pvr-250. I tried the fixes mentioned above and it will run 1 time, and display a still of a live tv channel (stored video works fine). Upon restart of sage, starts up with the sage loading screens and then goes back to the desktop without sage running. I give up. I ran the unbinstalle , then deleted the frey directory, restalled 1.3.8 and it works.

Everyone,
Can you PLEASE provide me with the sagetv_0.txt log file from the SageTV folder when things like this happen with the beta. There's nothing I can do about this unless I've got more information than that "it just stops running".

OK Jeff,
I reinstall the 1.4.7 again and send you the log assuming that I ever get to leave work today :)
