View Full Version : Sage hangs when closing

I mentioned this in a previous thread in refererence to 1.4.3, but the problem is still occurring with 1.4.5.

If I just start SageTV, go into my recordings and view a few seconds of a show, then return to the 'Home' menu and try to close the application - it hangs. I cant kill it from the Task Manager. Even though the rest of Windows XP is still responding, it wont shutdown or reboot. I end up hitting the reset button.

It happens every time. I've attached an example log.

Same thing happening here, only not just with home menu; I get it trying to delete old shows, or even once skipping ahead in a show. I have to reboot XP to get it to come back to life; quite a pain since I have to stop Sage, fire off WinTV 2K to activate video out, then start over...

I also get it deleting old shows. I was gonna bring this up next...

It is a major pain.

For the log you posted here, I think I know what that is, and I just fixed it yesterday, it'll be in 1.4.7 Beta.

For the freezing when you delete files, can you post a log file from that please?

Ive attached a log for the hang when deleting a show.

I basically started the application, viewed a few seconds of a show I'd recorded earlier and then from the 'sage recordings' screen I selected to delete the show. It hangs and the CPU climbs quite high.

Try this:

1. Start SageTV
2. Select a show to watch that you've recorded earlier.
3. FF a few times
4. Go to 'sage recordings' and delete the file.

Post a log file whether it hangs or not. And if it does hang, try going to the SageGuide for step 4 and deleting from their instead.

It still looks like the same bug I'm referring to in my post above, but I just want to be sure. :)

Reinstalled, can't replicate it now, sorry. It didn't look like it was writing the file from what I saw...

Narflex, I attempted the steps you listed above to delete a file. Both cause SageTV to hang and required a system reboot.

For the first test I did the following:
1. Start SageTV
2. Selected a show to watch that I'd recorded earlier.
3. FF a few times
4. Went to 'sage recordings' and attempted to delete the file.

Log attached:

For the second test I did the following:
1. Start SageTV
2. Select a show that I've recorded earlier (from Sage Recordings).
3. FF a few times
4. Went to 'guide' and attempted delete the file.

SageTV hangs.

Log attached:

As long as I dont delete shows using SageTV, or try and exit, Sage TV works just great. (will be better with OSD for the 350, but thats another story...)

These 'hangs' I describe usually also involve the CPU going up to 100% and stay there.

I'm also seeing the same thing (hanging while trying to delete) and also when playing back a recording. If I try to switch to another recorded show, it hangs.

I'm at v1.4.5, will upgrade to v1.4.7 to see if that resolves it (is that out yet?).

sub, can you post a log file from normal operation too please? (just watch a show in the EPG for a bit, fast forward and rewind around)

Also, does it hang if you put it to sleep? And does it hang if you try to delete the show WITHOUT watching it first?

If I start SageTV, I can delete any show (without problem) until I view something, then 'delete' causes a hang.

I've attached a log where I watched a bit of 'My wife my kids' and then returned to the Sage Guide and tried to delete a program called 'Boots N All' which caused sage hang.

Strangely the log refers to 'My wife my kids' after 'Boots N All'...

Sorry, I forgot to mention...do the same thing again, but watch something that's currently being aired (live TV).

Does the time display work correctly when watching video? Where it says you're H:MM:SS/H:MM:SS in the OSD, does it work like you'd expect it to? (i.e. it doesn't stay at 0, or show some weird number)

OK, the bad news is - its still happening with the 1.4.7 release. I even tried a fresh install after removing my sage.properties in case it was damaged in some way.

After some experimenting, I've discovered it doesn't happen if I go back to software decoding through my mini-itx tv out. Its only happening if I use the PVR350 decoder. Are you in some way not releasing the decoder resources after they are used?

Ohhhh!!! That's what it is! You're using the 350 decoder. Now I've got something to go off (didn't know what made your system different before).

Did you disable software decoding?

Yes, I did disable software decoding.

Thanks, I'll look into this soon.
