This has come up many times before. While I certainly can't speak to the reasons, narflex has stated clearly that for quite some time now it has been sufficient to simply install the new one over the old.

I would, however, make sure you exit (i.e. not just sleep) SageTV before the update :-)

Is it better to remove the old version before loading the new Beta or just load the new over the old ???
