I'm running two 250s.... in the past day it seems that one of the cards (the one tuning analog cable) has lost the ability to record audio. I've restarted the machine and it hasn't helped. Any advice would be appreciated.

Stuart

I actually just experienced this over the weekend as well with the older model of the PVR-250. But rebooting my computer fixed this issue. I also haven't updated the Hauppauge drivers in over six months so I'm planning on trying that at some point.

Have you tried any of the recent driver releases?

I did an "SHS" clean uninstall of 21143 and installed 21177 on 8/1/03 ( http://www.freytechnologies.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=1248 ). Aside from scheduling problems, I haven't had issues since then, up until last night.... it worked for 4 days... no other changes to my system.....hmm, fishy.

My 250s are iTVC-16.

I restarted my machine again, and the problem went away for a little while, then returned.

Restarted again... no problems yet. Suffice it to say that this is a recurring problem... will post back in a few days if I fail to see it.

Problem is unbearable. Going to try 21188 drivers. Wish me luck!

21188 drivers exhibited the problem within 10 seconds of trial. Went to 21199 drivers and they have passed the 10 minutes test.

BTW, I'm sorry that this thread is in the beta forum rather than hardware... just didn't know from the outset whether this was beta-related or not and didn't want to clutter other forums with potentially beta-related problems.

Well 21199 failed as well... no audio when I returned home from work.... for the moment, I've removed my 2nd 250 (the analog cable one) from SageTV in order not to record any more silent films.

I'll probably try to go back to 21143 when I get the chance.

Having not seen this problem reported at SHSPVR's forum, I think I can safely bet that this problem is related to one or two things:

a) SageTV's interaction with these drivers
b) these drivers have partially broken the support for multiple cards.

Of course there is another option:

c) something else has gone wrong with my setup

...but I'd put my money on a, b, or a+b.

Stuart

I just started having this problem as well. I'm using 21176 drivers.

Have you changed back to the 21143 drivers to see if that corrected the problem?

Sorry to hear that, John.

I haven't rolled back yet, but if I get a chance to do it this weekend I'll post back my results.

Log files didn't show any problems. There's another setting to try in Sage.properties that might help:
mmc/feature_mask_disable=8

See if that fixes it for you. Your random problem also made me suspect thermal issues....but just a thought.

Thanks for your response, Narflex. I'm betting on Hauppauge as the problem. I looked again at shspvr forum and it seems that sshapiro also found this problem with more recent drivers.

My case temp, as reported by speedfan, sticks around 35 C. I haven't done anything to the system that should have changed my temp situation from back when I didn't have this problem. Timing of my driver updates also seems to point toward newer drivers as the source of the problem. The only other variable would be 1.4.7... but I'm betting on Hauppauge as the problem.

I wanted to go back to 21143 today, but instead I used my limited downtime of the day to play with AVIA video calibration. I'll go post my "results" in the feature request forum ;)

Do you think that the mmc/feature_mask_disable setting would interact with driver versions? That is to say:

I'm trying to minimize the effort I need to put into solving this. My inclination is to try rolling back drivers, and if that works, to call it a day. However, if you think that it is useful for me to test whether the mmc/feature_mask_disable setting solves the problem, I'm willing to do so.

Stuart

The mmc/feature_mask_disable works differently for different driver versions, so yes.

It seems like feature_mask_disable=8 may have fixed it... hopefully I'm not speaking too soon.

What feature did I disable? Please tell me it's not stereo!

You've now disabled the direct programming of the Micronas sound processor on the Hauppauge card. Now the Hauppauge drivers program it themselves. (they used to do it wrong for PAL users, that's why I put it in there)

Sounds ok to me! Thanks, Jeff.
