Hi I saw a question about this before but did not see an answer.

Does SageTV Support Dolby Digital, DTS pass Thru?
Meaning that the DTS or Dobly Digital stream is sent to the
Digital out on my sound card and is not decompressed and
sent to my analog outs on my sound card.

I just bought an M-Audio Revolution 7.1 card which came
with WinDVD4 and I am now using the Intervideo Filters that
came with it.

Is it a question of configuring sagetv to use the correct Audio filters so that they will pass it thru my digital out unaltered?

Is there another filter that I should be using to enable this?

my outboard decoder supports MPEG2 Audio, DTS, Dolby Digital
so the computer should not be wasting CPU cycles decompressing or down mixing any of these formats.

Any help would be appreciated.

I see from your specs that your using the WinTV PVR 250. With this capture card, that card only accepts an analog audio source, so you would not capture a digital audio stream. However it would seem to me that you could pass digital audio through the s/pdif output if you were watching a DVD from sage.

but i dont think it would be possible to capture video through the pvr 250 and a digital stream through a digital in (which you dont have) and multiplex them together.

Maybe if you had a capture card that would accept a digital stream, then it would work in sage.

Actually my question is for DVD playback not MPEG2 playback from
my capture card. So when SageTV is playing a DVD with a DTS or
Dolby Digital Sound Track it sends the DTS or Dolby Digital Stream
to my digital out in its compressed form and does not waste processor time decoding it and down mixing it to PCM Stereo for
analog output. I honestly have not tested this, but hope you
are correct that SageTV or my audio filter is smart enough to send
the stream to the digital out if it is my selected output mode for
my sound card.

Actually the PVR 250 card captures stereo and encodes it
into MPEG2 Audio ( a digital stream ).

While MPEG2 Audio decompression is not that processor
intensive there is no point for SageTV or the Audio
filter to decompress it to PCM to send to my sound card and then have it go to my digital decoder, when my digital decoder can
handle the MPEG2 digital stream.

An update.

If I use NVDVD Video and Audio filters I can go to the NVDVD propeties and select the SPIDIF out option. Too bad the NVDVD codecs are so cpu intensive.

I wish I could use the intervideo codecs that came with my sound card. They work in interdvd, but I guess they need
to be configured differently.

doesn't much matter for now until m-audio fixes the digital audio bug.
