MediaMVP and Server on different Switches

Has anyone tried the mediamvp and your server on different switches? Here is my problem. My office only has 1 ethernet run to the main hub in the basement. What I am doing then is putting the Cable Modem and Router (4 port) in my office and then using the ethernet run in my office to the main switch in the basement. This allows me to have the server and my main box hooked into the 4 port router and then the router hooked to my 16 port switch in the basement that then serves the rest of the house. I quickly tried out the MVP hooked that way yesterday and it found the Sage Server and loaded up the Sage GUI, but I didn't have any time to test this to see if the actual videos would work. Anyone attempting this? I might have just gotten lucky the one time. I know for the old Hauppauge software just sharing videos it states you have to have it on the same Hub/Switch....Just curious.

This is exactly how i run my home and office network. 1 run between 2 gb switches. Not the most efficient, but then thats why I went GB switches/cards on all but MVP (obviously)

Great! I definately did not want to have to add another Ethernet run just so I could have the server and my desktop direclty connected to the hub. I also did not want to have to put the server in the basement because then I would have to have a seperate monitor/mouse/keyboard (right now I have a great little kvm) and if I needed to change anything...well you know!
