View Full Version : Any way to set priority?

Situation: Tonight, my TiVo missed the new episode of Lost. It found another show in the same time slot, found Lost repeating next wednesday, so it recorded the other show and pushed Lost off. I'm not thrilled with this at all. It didn't even bother to flag a Resolved Conflict for me to check. If I have to check every day to make sure there's not going to be any more conflicts like this (not the first time this has happened), it reduces my desire to be using it.

So. Is there any way I can set shows as having "Priority", so that, even if Sage finds the show being rebroadcast at a later time, it has preference and "Always Records" when first found, even at the expense of other shows? I'm not looking to have to babysit my favorites every day to manually ensure there aren't conflicts. :|

Thanks!

TiVo missed it too?

Technically, that wouldn't be considered a conflict because it was able to schedule the show at some time; the conflict icon is only shown when a show can't be scheduled to be recorded at all. Anyway...

Unless I'm forgetting something (?): no, there isn't a setting to force "record the first airing of this fav". Normally, when this happens, it is for a show that airs on one day & then repeats a couple days later or even later the same night. In those cases, you could set a timeslot or limit the fav to a certain day... neither of which will apply to how Lost is airing this & next week, since they are airing 2 shows both Wednesdays w/1 repeated both weeks.

The good news is that you haven't yet missed the repeated episode, since it can still get recorded next week. And, you should have the first new one from this week. (At least, it says that one is a 1st run also.) Seems like a strange schedule for Lost.

I meant "My Sage Box" when I said TiVo. Bit late night and wasn't thinking right. :)

I realize Sage was working as intended, but it still is a bit aggrivating to have to baby sit my upcoming recordings just to verify that it's not going to get shifted to another night when I want it immediately. Part of my reason of owning a home made PVR was so that I didn't have to deal with the hassle of tracking shows. It's not happened often, but enough for me to care, and always on shows that are "Must Watch Now!" for me.

I thought Sage had an internal icon for "Recording Conflicts - Resolved" that shows up?

Guess I'll just make a habit of manually confirming my recording schedule every day. :|

if you must watch now, then make it a timed recording and or manual I guess. You could shorten your EPG data to less then a week, then it won't do that (I assume that's possible with the built in EPG?)

the major issue I have is if the schedule changes and/or is wrong and the show does not air again...and then it's too late. but I've never had that happen.

I thought Sage had an internal icon for "Recording Conflicts - Resolved" that shows up?Again, that is only for conflicts where a show won't get recorded -- a 'recolved conflict' is one where you resolved it or SageTV was able to automatically resolve it based on one of your past answers (such as 'always record Fav A instead of Fav B'). The fact that the show can get recorded sometime means it isn't a conflict, in terms of the SageTV system.

Oh -- and I checked: there isn't some way I was forgetting to cancel this sort of rescheduling. I think that would cause more conflict problems anyway.

You could shorten your EPG data to less then a week, then it won't do that (I assume that's possible with the built in EPG?)This has nothing to do with the lookahead time -- the schedule will attempt to resolve conflicts by looking through all the EPG data it has. So, while it will schedule the next 3 days worth of recordings, it will check out nearly 2 weeks for a show that has a conflict. Oh, wait... if you mean to give SageTV less EPG data to work with, that wouldn't apply to the built-in EPG data that is downloaded from the SageTV servers, since I don't think you can control that time period.

yeah, i meant the epg data...the canada digicasa plugin was user configurable and I assumed such a setting was possible somehow with the sagetv built in epg. a shot in the dark, as I've noticed that shows are often repeated a week or two later.

If you had it set up to record only first-runs of Lost, wouldn't it have thrown up a flag then? Since next weeks eps would be listed as a repeat, I would assume it would (but I could be very wrong).

That's the strange things about Lost this week & next... two episodes are airing both Wednesdays w/1 repeated (3 episodes in all). All 3 are listed as First Runs. I guess it just fits in with their story lines lately & how they keep repeating everything like daytime soaps. I'm still trying to decide if that show is now a lost cause.

Situation: Tonight..
One way to resolve this is to get another tuner.
