Given Frey Technologies relationship with Hauppauge, is there something in the future where SageTV or SageClient would be able to take advantage/interface with this little gem. :thumb:

Right now it doesn't appear that I could make it interact with SageTV or SageClient. I would love to be able to hook up any TV to the Sage system via my network without needing another pc to sit beside it. :jump:

I'm all over it. :) You'll definitely be able to use this playback Sage recorded files. And I've been talking with Hauppauge about a more full integration of the SageTV UI on it. I think it'd be great to support it, and my architecture can definitely handle it.

That would be cool. Especially the full Sage integration support. Can't wait.

I know I would buy ~5 of them (depending on price somewhat) for super convenient thin SageTV Clients if it worked the two were ever integrated...
If Hauppage is smart at ALL, they will allow 3rd Party branding/software on the device at the OEM level. Frey would sell a TON of these babies.

I just one today and so far I like it but there is one down side to it, it a memory hog eat up 100+MB.
Good new it bace on XML and JavaScript and JPG so it sould be very eazy to build it the way you want it to look.

Great that it should be easy to modify the look, but the 100+ Megs is troublesome. I wonder how memory usage would scale with multiple MVPs using the same server.
So far it been runing very soild it no diff then SageTV even SageTV can eat up 100+MB and I have them both runing at same time and so far there no problem.
No idea but I have to ask about multiple MVPs

jmeeks,
That's the Hauppauge WinTV USB 2.0 PVR. The MediaMVP is what I'm after :)

CircuitCity: http://www.circuitcity.com/detail.j...7&catoid=-10266 Are you sure that's the right link? That looks like the USB2 version of the PVR. It even say's it's a model #941. I did a rotation of it in 3D and there was no network jack either.
Just trying to be sure.:)
EDIT:looks like I typed too slow again. I'm pretty sure that is not the MVP.

Well, it looks like they're no stock as well.
Maybe SHS could tell us where he got his......
Gee do I really have to tell you can't you even guest let just say a Birdee in the Sky which was from NY, NY.

Yes, SHS, I could guess, given your connections, and I would have said before the hint, that you probably got an advance evaluation or test product from the source itself. :)
So do you know, or does anyone really know, when the product will actually be available to the rest of us less deserving, er, entitled? :D
Like all thing it take time to get out to the stores far as I know of they start shipping just after September 15, 2003 unless they hold it up due to few bug or some other reson which is unknow, but most of the major(bugs) have been fix last week far I can tell not one messup with audio after runing it all this weekend.

A snapstream add on the frey forum ?, a bit strange to do so don't you think ?

Nope, not strange in my opinion.
If they are selling something Frey doesn't (the MediaMVP in this case), I think it is fine. Not like Rakesh was advertising their software.
Just my $0.02.
Of course I've never actually read the rules for this forum to see if posting items like that is verboten though. ;)

I understand how the MVP can playback media files made by Sage, but how will it handle things like live TV, and the changing of live channels?
I LOVE the concept of this thin client (I'll get at least 3 if they work) but the interface is god awefully ugly. Makes the original UI of sage look like a work of art. Jeff, any luck getting Hauppauge to bite on allowing you to put your UI in an OEM version of this?
I saw the now deleted spam post from the Snapstream guy. What makes me angry is to think that they might have some type of special marketting clout that Sage doesn't, when Sage has been supporters of the Hauppauge 250 and 350 since nearly their inception.
Come on Hauppauge, work with the SAGE guys!

Don't worry, we are working very closely with Hauppauge on this, there's just no update to give at this point. We will also offer the MediaMVP in the near future for sale through our site.
In the meantime, I would just wait for the MVP to go on sale at Best Buy or Circuit City. I'll keep everyone updated as we know more in the future.

Ok Dan,
But that doesn't answer how the MediaMVP works on live TV. Any thoughts?
Also, should we wait for the MVP to be available from you guys or will there be some type of ability to 'flash' the firmware to load any Sage software/firmware on the units bought from other retail channels?
Thanks for any input!

You're not going to get live TV from this device. You'll be able to play any of the recorded TV programs from a PVR 250/350 or comparable device. (Any MPG, MPEG1 or MPEG2 file) Only when when they come up with a SageTV client that runs on this thing will you be able to connect to a Sage Server and get live TV. (Unless I'm reading the specs wrong.)

Actually, you can get liveTV with the MediaMVP if Sage is doing the recording. I've done it. You just select the file from the video list in the MediaMVP that's currently being recorded by Sage, it plays back just fine. :)

Cool. Didn't know that would work but it does makes sense. It is, after all a MPEG2 file.

PGP,
Sorry, looks like its been clarified now. However you won't be able to change the channels with the MVP through their software. You'll only be able to access the Live SageTV feed.

It has been talked(just search) about before.;) Setting aside legal issues by using a Linux OS, It might be able to be done. But Jeff has other things to do right now. I'm pretty sure he'll make a linux client when he has time. Maybe the MVP will help spur it's development.:)
If has read the review I did you would have see yes youcan do this

That is incredible SHS.:coffee: Makes me wish I hadn't started collecting parts for my dedicated HTPC. I guess I'll just have to sneek the MVP past the wife as part of the HTPC.:)
