View Full Version : Adaptec VideOh! DVD Media Center Edition USB not working w/ SageTV

Hi,

I bought an Adaptec Videoh USB encoder yesterday and tried getting it to work with SageTV. The encoder itself works fine, but SageTV fails when I'm trying to switch to LiveTV with a message complaining about being unable to initialize the audio (can't remember the exact message since I'm at work right now).

I'm quite amazed that it doesn't work since this encoder is stated as being supported by SageTV.... does anybody have any ideas/insights on how to get it to work?

Cheers,

Martin

What MPEG2 video and audio decoder are you using?

Hmm... just the stuff that came with the Adaptec box itself, I haven't installed anything else on that system yet.

MHoffesommer it may under standing that Adaptec really mess thing up when I first ask about the device it was supped be same chip as there PCI and at the time the drivers where iTVC16 but there was some goof up it turn out to be C-Cube chip so need less to say SageTV may not work I need let Jeff about this.

Anything I can help with this evening, e.g. turning on some debug parameters to get a log file or such?

Can you watch the MPEG2 files recorded with Sage outside of SageTV(you mentioned the encoder part was working). If not you need to install an MPEG2 decoder. Sage does not come with one. If you have another software DVD player installed you can probably use the decorders from it.

Hm, I'll have to try that this evening. However what I meant by saying that the encoder part was working was actually that the encoder box itself (i.e. the Adaptec box) is working when running the software that came with it :)

Let me know the detailed error message and I can help you more. Thanks.

It can probably be fixed by changing your Audio and Video Decoder filters in Detailed Setup.

I too am getting the same message. Did you ever figure how to fix it?

Bump...

This is an otherwise excellent USB2 hardware encoder.... it would be great to have it working with SageTV instead of just with Snapstream.

Bump again. I also have the Videoh! DVD Media Center USB edition, and I can't get SageTV to work with it. I do have WinDVR 3 working with the adapter, so I know the adapter works. Looking through the posts on this forum and the information on the SageTV web site, I can't see any evidence that SageTV is supposed to be compatible with this particular unit. Can anyone confirm for sure whether SageTV is supposed to work with the Videoh! DVD Media Center USB edition?

Thanks!

SageTV does not currently support the Videoh! USB edition.

Thanks, Dan. Any plans to support this unit? If so, any ETA? Any beta testers needed? :-)

Thanks.

I'd also like to know if future support will happen for the usb version...
thanks

We would like to add support for many other devices in the future, I just don't have an ETA for any of them right now. We'll know more after the release of version 2.0.

Excellent. Here's hoping....! ;)

BTW: You haven't released 2.0 yet, but already I've seen reviews that no longer mention your user interface as the main drawback... lately, it seems that limited hardware support is "the big complaint" for your product.

So, I'd say good job on getting the word out about improvements in your upcoming release.

Yup, after 2.0 comes out you are going to see a lot of bad press regarding the lack of hardware support.

Not only with hardware encoders like the VideOh! USB, but other things like ATI AIW cards, etc.

Maybe that support will be for v3.0... :)

Only hardware encoders will be supported. That will not include low level software card like the AIW. If ATI makes a decent card it probably will be though. Also, Sage supports more hardware encoding cards than any other product I am aware of.

We'll see... ;)
