Hopefully the MVP will be out REALLY soon. I'm also waiting to get an MVP until a wireless version is available. While you can connect the existing MVP to a wireless bridge that just seems too clunky for my great room. :D

Can't you use your tv settings to change that?

Can't you use your tv settings to change that?

I can see why this wouldn't appeal to some people, particularily those who use their TV for other purposes, eg. video game systems or dvd players. If you bump up the brightness forthe MVP, then everything else could be too bright.

Yeah... someone give us a review!

Work calls and I have not had a chance to even look at it... Hopefully I can hook it up on Saturday (and take some pics... for you all...). I need to upgrade the router that I use for use with the MVP though. I have an old 'B' model that I sue to give access to the kids computer and since the TV is right next to the computer, a 'G' or even a pre-'N' is going to have be put into service. Any thoughts?

I'd go with the Linksys WRT54GL. Make sure to get the "L" version though, because it means that it runs Linux as the firmware and you are able to flash a 3rd party firmware, like DD-WRT to enable a lot of extra features.

Just called Hauppauge today and their official statement is that it's ready and is going through its final "beta testing" now. "Within the next 4 weeks" I was told and it will be available.

This could very well mean they are waiting to have enough supply to ship them, (due to the recent lack of supply on the original MVP's)

I asked if the wirless MVP will be replacing the wired, the answer was "NO" and that they will continue to ship/produce the old wired version along with the wireless at the same time.

I was also told they are currently filling the backorders to their retailers now, and that there are plenty of wired MVP's in stock at Hauppauge's online store.

If Sage is out of 'em, and you just can't wait to get one. (ordering through Sage is $10 cheaper with the client license bundle)

Having worked with the MVP since Matt's original plugin (even before it was released...), I have benefitted from knowing a few folks...

As for where I got it.... From Hauppauge of course! :p

Seriously, it is going through a few more tests to ensure complete compatability and then I am sure Hauppauge will release it. I plan on installing it today and trying it out. My son was in the hospital last night (huge puke fest... ), so while he is resting, I might get a chance.

Any firm answer on whether the spdif connection will allow AC3 audio to pass through the extender? Then we can plug it into our receivers and decode it there? If so, does this mean no transcoding is required for the DVD's on the server end?

Thanks,

JUC

I think we should continue to be a little more patient on this product and hope Hauppauge does not release this device prematurely .... :bang:

Currently myself along with several others are using 802.11g client bridges( or game adapters) with our MVP media extenders to make them wireless. This arrangement works seamlessly for recordings 2.5 GB/hr(DVD Long Play) or less for recording of higher quality we begain to choke a little on bandwidth throughput.

What we have all noticed ... for optimal performance we must use the router and client bridge(game adapter) from the same vendor. I am currently using a Belkin Pre N router and the Belkin client bridge and based on results from users who use other vendors(D-Link, Netgear and Linksys) ... I am achieving the same performance.

The piece I think that is holding up the deployment ... is the use of equipment from different vendors. While testing I noticed a significant decrease in performance when using equipment from different vendors. The decrease in performance was from that of not working at all to at best a 1 GB/hr bandwidth(fair recording).

This incompatibility (http://www.wired.com/news/technology/wireless/0,70806-0.html?tw=rss.technology) issue is what is currently delaying the next release of our wireless standards 802.11n. which promises bandwidth rates of anywhere from 150 Mbps to upto 600 Mbps ( :clap:hi-def streaming ) http://www.gizmodo.com/gadgets/wireless/netgear-gets-speedy-with-80211n-167272.php

At this point we can only guess at the vendor That will be used in the release of the wireless MVP. Lets just hope its compatible with ALL our routers :D

Cool, now my life will be complete. I won't have to go to the computer to burn a dvd so can watch my recordings on my TV.

Can someone explain how this will work? I mean will have to buy the license from SageTV to make this work on my TV and my wireless network. I ask because I only recently got my PC with Sage and also have a wirless router, so I am not sure exactly what to do.

Any help would be appreciated.

You would need an extender license, which comes with the MVP if purchased from SageTV, or you can buy it separately here (http://store.sagetv.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=SOS&Product_Code=STVCM&Category_Code=SS).

Thirty dollars should do it. Just send it to me and I'll take care of it.

Just fool'in. Actually, you need to buy an Extender/Placeshifter license from Sage for $30.00. That should be accomplished at the "Store".

Edit: Shoot, Andy beat me again even after taking a "Typing-Tutor" advanced refresher course!

Just received the ship notification on my wireless MVP. It's scheduled to be delivered Friday.

Also, had a good experience with Hauppauge. They accidentally shipped the MVP to the wrong address (transposed two number). I called them up and within 10 minutes the guy I spoke to called UPS to correct the problem and called me back to verify the issue was corrected. Nice.

By the way,I called Hauppauge to order a wireless MVP. I asked them why it wasn't orderable from Newegg or other places. The rep said that it is available for them to order, but none have ordered any yet. So, retailers don't know about it or no demand yet...

DFA,

That reminds me - my wife has been hassling me to start fishing my network wires under the drywall. She doesn't like them tucked near the wall. (I've learned to ignore it). Its a big job to conceal them , but I still prefer the reliability and speed a hard-wired network provides in spite of its higher cost.

Mine arrived today. Looks just like the normal MVP except with a small antenna. No surprises.

Plugged it in without installing the Hauppauge "server" software and it immediately launched into its wireless setup routine. Basically it lets you choose which wireless network to use (assuming multiple are available). For each available network you can get some very basic information about the speed and quality of the connection. I have two APs in the house and it was easy to switch between them. One thing I could not find was an indicator showing how fast the connection was running. The only thing there were "bars" and some S/N ratio information indicating the strength of the signal. I guess those "in the know" can figure out from the S/N how fast the connection is, but not I

After futzing with that a while it must have "phoned home" since it suddenly informed me that a firmware update was available and I should upgrade. Hey, why not ..... Nothing like changing several things at once with a brand new gadget to help with the debugging :D Anyway, the firmware upgrade seemed to load fine and when completed it rebooted itself.

I poked around a bit but there was no way to get it to see my Sage server (5.01). No surprise there really, we've been warned it does not work "out of the box". Plugged in a network cable, rebooted the MVP and everything works fine with Sage. :)

After I was convinced the thing was working properly I unplugged the cable in order to experiment with Hauppauge's software and see how well it streamed video wirelessly. When I rebooted the MVP I received an error saying the boot failed and I needed to plug in a network cable to recover. Um...

I guess I will have to read the (flimsy) manual that came with the MVP to see what that is all about. I'll keep you posed.

Anybody have any clue when an update will be released that supports the wireless MVP? If Sage needs any Beta testers, I volunteer.

Just spoke to Hauppauge tech support. They have no clue why I am getting the "Boot failed" error message. The solution - They are sending me a new unit. When it arrives they said do not do the firmware upgrade if prompted.

I can live with this considering it works great on the wired network and Sage still does not have wireless support. I am really curious though on how well it will stream wirelessly.

FWIW their tech support was good. The guy I spoke to went to see one of the engineers and then called me back in 15 minutes.

Jabroni - What are your experiences so far?

Do we have any user reports on the wireless MVP as of Yet ?????

Morgan111
06-06-2006, 03:33 PM
I have just setup my wireless MVP in the bedroom and have mixed results so far. Music and pictures seem fine although the interface is rather sluggish. I can play video but it breaks up horribly. I think the problem is my signal. The MVP reports 2/5 bars even though my notebook wireless-g reports a higher signal with excellent reception. I have another wireless AP that I am going to hook up with a long cable and play with how the signal changes and see if that fixes my video and sluggishness.

tmiranda
06-07-2006, 08:55 AM
Mine works fine except for one thing; after a few minutes of inactivity the wireless connection drops out and the MVP reboots (Sage Logo screen) the first time a key is pressed on the remote. Setting the screensaver timeout to a low value (1 minute) helps but is not 100% effective. As long as the MVP is playing video or you are pressing keys on the remote all is well.

I'm getting 3 bars. If I move the AP closer to the MVP so that I get 4 or 5 bars the rebooting does not happen. (Too bad that puts the AP in the middle of the living room.)

Video plays flawlessly, no breaking up, no jerkiness. I use DVD Extra Long Play quality.

WAF and KAF (2 kids, 4 and 6) is very high so I can live with the occasional rebooting.
