MPEG video decode accelaration?

Does the linux version still take advantage of Video card MPEG video decoding accelaration - is that reason for NVidia specific requirement (it was easier to support one chipset for now)?

I just want to make sure I dont need to rely completely on my CPU!

The current version doesn't use acceleration.
