I recently purchased a SageTV media extender directly from SageTV's web site, and I received the Hauppauge MVP.

The MVP says "Trail", and I haven't entered a client license. However, there is no client license that came with the item. And on the SageTV web site, it says "This product includes the necessary Client license to communicate with the SageTV server. ":

The question is, where is this license? It's not on the receipt and it wasn't in the sealed box, either.

the license should have been sent in email right after you bought the extender from sage.

Hey, that did it - thanks! So, uh, how do I register an MVP client license with the unit itself so it doesn't keep saying "Trial" on the screen? Is that in the setup of the SageTV MVP client? Should I RTFM?

Should I RTFM?Well, I don't usally put it quite that way. ;) But, just so you know: there is a section titled "Registering Media Extender Licenses" in "Appendix M: SageTV Media Extenders" of the PDF manual. :)

You should. Barring that-go to the computer you installed Sage on and go to the Start menu. Find your Sage menu and look in there.

I perhaps didn't make myself clear -

I have already registered and restarted my SageTV service with the media extender license, and it shows one valid license.

The question is, how do I make the MediaMVP recognize that client? I didn't see anything in Appendix M that mentions that.

Ah -- no, it wasn't clear to me that you had already entered the license. :) In that case, unplug the MVP, wait a while, then plug it in again. (The power button on the remote no longer turns it completely off.)

Make sure to see if your services are correctly configured too. I believe in the Detailed Setup you can "enable" the server and the MVP stuff (it is described in the manual), then make sure that the service is actually running by using the start menu, sagetv, SageTVServiceControl.exe......that should get you to a dialog box that should say "Use SageTV Service: Yes and it should be "enabled" and also SageTV Service State: Started....You may have to start it, I would recommend you refresh it. Then try the plug, unplug MVP thing again.

You are not alone in this. My two old Ver1.0 MVP's worked beautifully under SageTV ver4.1. I purchased a newer one from Sage a month or two back and have not been able to get it to work yet, at least with ver5.0.2 the thing finally recognized my LAN, but I am still stuck on Loading SageTV thing on that MVP, actually all three right now.

If you get yours to work please come back here and tell us all what worked and what you feel the problem was.

Okay! Now that the MVP boots (changed my DHCP server from "static" to "roving" and that fixed it - no idea why), I'm able to connect and use the MVP now without issue. Thanks gents!

What brand and model router are you using. I noticed my old Linksys Cable/DSL router does not have that option.
