Hi Tim,

yes you can edit the URLs in the property file directly, or you can do this even easier in SageMC itself: go to the weather maps screen, highlight the map button corresponding to the map you want to change, and bring up the options menu. You can edit the URL manually, or paste it from the windows clipboard with ctrl-v.

Dirk

Don't know when it was added, but having that paste feature for the RSS feeds makes it SO MUCH easier to put feeds in. :D

Hi Dirk,

How would you go about increasing the number of weather maps beyond 7?

Can't seem to get the URL recognised. I have in my properties file :

sagemc/wximage_url_1=http\://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/charts/uk/uk_summary_%Y%M%D12.jpg

(I also added a non-dynamic URL so I know the file changes were picked up)

and todays weather map is :

http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/charts/uk/uk_summary_07010312.jpg

Thanks

Hi Tim,

yeah you found a bug, it's not handling single-digit months/days correctly. I attached a version with a temp fix for this.

Dirk,

Is there a possibility to make the Video play lists act more like the Stock STV play list. The reason I am asking is that I have Playlist of some complete series... and it is easier to play them through playlists.

In The SageMC playlists I cannot View details or play from a specific one.
Also the SagMC playlist on a 4.3 Display really cuts of the episode names as compared to the Stock STV.

Pictures Attached.

Thanks for the quick fix, I guess I replace /c/Program Files/SageTv/sagetv/stvs/Sagetv3/SageMC_169.xml with your file right ? (renaming it to SageMC_169.xml)

I'll try it out tonight and report back

That is the correct location.

You can rename it, or you can just select it as your new STV, with the current name. It keeps you from having to get out of SageTV (or doing a couple extra steps to get around changing the name when SageTV is open). Then once the next version comes out, you can just select the original...

I am not able to get the double press of the home to map to another screen.

I have enabled it in the menu and set it to "recorded TV" but it doesn't work. It just flashes the home screen when pressing it the second time. I have also tried mapping it to a number of other menus, and none of them seem to work.

Dont know if flachbar missed this... can anyone else confirm if it is working for them or not?

Ok, there might be a little misconception here... This is not something like a 'quick double-press' functionality (the Sage core does not support anything like this). Mapping a menu to pressing the 'Home' button twice means just that - you press 'Home' the first time to get to the Main menu, and you press 'Home' a second time to get to the menu you configured. It's just a convenient way to map one more menu without requiring another free button on the remote.

Do all of you with problems use the standard SageMC main menu ? I found that the new 'Home' listener has only been added to the dynamic main menu, which would explain that it's not working for the standard menu. This will be fixed in the next update.

If you are using dynamic menus, then maybe you are pressing the buttons too quick, so that the second 'Home' command gets executed before the Main menu is recognizing its commands.

These are custom menu items which you can link to aprticular pages available in SageMC. For example, you can change the name "Custom1" to "Google Videos," set the link to load the "Google Video Main" page, and enable "Custom1" on the main SageMC page by right clicking and setting the 'Show Custom1' option.

After re-loading, you'll see "Google Videos" on the main page, and clicking it will bring you to the Google Videos page.

That's my understanding at least.

Yep, everything Dan said is correct. But I think real_per was referring to the button mapping of the Custom1-Custom5 commands (yeah, I know I should have named the menu items differently to avoid confusion ;)). These are additional commands available in Sage and are usually used by STVi extensions. You can map any button on your remote to those commands, this can be done in Settings/Detailed Setup/Commands/Link Infrared/Key to SageTV command. So e.g. if a plugin uses 'Custom1' to invoke a certain function, you can map a remote button to 'Custom1' and invoke this function by pressing this button.

Ok, so this is actually about the IMDb import since I am not running sagemc, however, it was suggested that I post this here because this issue may have been seen with sagemc.

Anyway, I haven't actually used this on imported media in a while, so I was a bit surprised to find that it wasn't working!

I never really had a reason to before, but now that the MVP can play DVDs, I like to rip my DVDs to an imported folder and watch them on the MVP when I'm ready. Anyway, when I wanted to check out some IMDb info, I noticed that the entire Sage path ("Recorded Shows/Movies/Snakes On A Plane") was used as the search string instead of just the last part. I tried it with some imported MPGs as well and had the same result ("Movies/Adult/Office Space" actually pulled up info for a documentary entitled, "How They Make Adult Movies" which, while humorous and entertaining, wasn't what I wanted").

Is there something I can change to edit this behavior? or is this a bug?

anyone else notice this?

oh, it works great for stuff SageTV recorded!

Dang, forgot to switch STVs (now the missus has comandeered the TV!) Anyway I can see the problem :

Thu 1/4 20:57:21.929 Caused by: java.io.FileNotFoundException: http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/charts/uk/uk_summary_07040112.jpg

The URL's somehow misconstructed. It should be :

http://www.bbc.co.uk/weather/charts/uk/uk_summary_07010412.jpg

I think we might have the classic US vs UK date format problem - ie we say 04/01 you guys say 01/04. Let me know if this enough or you want it re-run with that STV. I will convert the URL to %Y%D%M12.jpg and re-try in a bit...

Also, if there were some way to differentiate between scheduled recordings and IR's with a visual?? Something non-intrusive like perhaps a different color font or italicized fonts on IR's??

You have to add it as a "Custom" menu item. See Settings>>SageMC>>Menu, and use one of the Custom menu items. For the screen, select "Video Conversions."

Enable the menu in the options menu on the main menu (options dialog, by pressing ESC).

I was playing around with some settings just now, and noticed that the bloodbath goes away when I was in Overlay mode, no 3D accel. When I returned to VMR9, 3D, FSE, the bloodbath was back. I can reproduce it every time going back and forth. So its something related to running VMR9, 3D, and FSE. Also, disabling FSE had no effect, so its actually something with VMR9 or 3D but since you have to run both or neither, I cant narrow it down any more.

Could it be related to certain DirectX distributions? I am using the December '06 distribution pack from MS. Jason, how about you?

Hi Kirby,

Good timing. I just played with this yesterday and found that it only occurs when 3D Accelleration is enabled. VMR9/Overlay have no effect. I e-mailed Dirk about it last night. It's good to know that it is now verified.

Hi Dirk,

I have a couple of questions that you might answer.

1) I can't seem to see the previews for themes that are past the six that we start with, unless they are selected as the current theme. I have checked the graphic files and they seem consistant. Everything else works fine with switching themes (once I unscrambled the mess I had created!).

2) I have been unable to add additional weather maps. I have edited the properties file to add more but the number on the left side selection menu seems to not expand. Is there a trick for this or a property that I haven't found or is the number of maps locked at 7?

Thanks again for all of your hard work on this and especially for your responsiveness, it allows Sage to do what each of us want.

1. Probably due to there not being a preview.jpg file for that particular theme.

2. I believe they are locked at 7. I remember previously, that the left hand menu is locked at having only 7 menu items.

Nope, your day is spot on. It only shows up when you go into that particular show, or if you have more than one recording of that show, if you go into the listing of all the episodes.

1. If the RSS feed is long SageMC resizes the text. Its almost unreadable. Can you have this actually scroll off the screen instead of stopping and fading with the full font size?

2. I would like the ability to turn off the Ticker on the OSD but ALWAYS leave the ticker on in menus. Maybe a setting would take care of this.

I recently added an AverHD180 to my HTPC, and I use the scan feature in the Channel setup menu to add new HD channels. Anyway. I don't seem to have that option when using SageMC. I can add channels but the scan feature in not available. I have to go back to the default STV to use it.

also is there any cool feature or tool to let me see signal strength of HD channels, either in the channel guide or somewhere. Once again in the Default STV I can VIEW and channel in the channel setup menu, and sometimes it will bring up a power meter. Is there any easier way to do this..

Thanks for all the hard work

Mike.

It is recommended to use the default STV when adding new hardware. I thought that it normally forced you to switch if you selected hardware setup...oh, I guess the channel setup isn't included. However, it's probably best to switch back to the default STV anyway.

I do not know of a power meter within sage. I wish they had one, because I have to use the FusionHDTV one when I need to check that.

*embarrassed* Those things always have their way of sneaking into the manual. I assume this was something new, because when I asked about it way back when, it didn't exist. Time to crack the book open, again. :D

When I go in to do a DVD Profiler update to the metadata I get a bigger dialog box where I can read all the dialog in it now. It's just missing the Yes-No buttons. Hitting enter just engages the default "no" behavior. Arrow left has no effect on changing that. I go back to 6.3.0 and you don't get all the dialog but you get the yes-no buttons. 1024 x 768 resolution.

Does anyone know how to get the imported videos to group into multiple levels based on the folder structure?

eg right now my folder structure is like this:

kids\

Barney\
Barney ABC.mpg
Barney XYZ.mpg

Disney Movies\
Cinderella\
video_ts\
Snow White\
video_ts\

grownups\
Movie 1\
video_ts\
Movie 2\
video_ts\

I'm trying to get the top level to display:

Kids
Grownups

When I drill down to "Kids," I want it to show:

Barney
Disney Movies

The next level should show:
Cinderella
Snow White

I'm sure I'm just missing something obvious, since that seems the logical way to do it--and that's how the basic Sage used to work (v 2.2.8--my last version). When I couldn't get Sage to work "normally" after the upgrade, I figured I'd try SageMC--but this is just displaying all the recordings together, in one big single-level list, with names like Kids\Barney\Barney ABC

Also, is there any way to turn off the thumbnails for imported videos? The default ones aren't really useful anyway.

Thanks

I got that working just fine on my SageMC. Just to be sure, only select the top directory (not all subdirectories), else you get the behaviour you are having. Also, if a subdirectory has only one movie, that movie is displayed directly at the higher level - you can not drill down to that subdirectory and select the movie than.

For thumnails, I always do an IMDB search and save it. That gives me a great thumbnail. It also changes the 'title' above the thumbnail in only the movie name, excluding the directory name it's in.

Weird. All those directories are children (in the OS) of a single video import directory. (Well, strictly speaking, that same exact structure is duplicated across three video import directories, but that shouldn't matter--Sage has always merged them). That exact structure looks "normal" in the default stv in 2.2.8. In the default stv in 6.0 (as well as in SageMC), I just see the entire path as part of the name (eg kids\barney\Barney ABC) when I'd really expect to see it broken up into drillable levels.

re the thumbnails, I tried doing the IMDB search and then saving it--and all it did was update the text--not the icon. Besides, not everything will have an IMDB entry--so it might be nice to be able to "turn off" the thumbnails altogether. No way to do that, huh?

It just seems that the interface was so much cleaner in the standard 2.2.8 than the standard 6.0. SageMC is much, much cleaner looking than the standard 6.0, but maybe I'm just looking for cleaner still--and losing the ability to drill down is just a dealbreaker.

ok--If I select "file system" and "view by list," I see what I'm looking for about 70% of the time. Here's the new problem: Some DVDs (folders w/ a VIDEO_TS folder under them) show up fine (as playable items) and others show up as folders w/ two items (!?). If I drill into those folders, I see a single entry in each: VIDEO_TS, and those also appear as folders containing two items. If I drill into those, I see nothing. The end result is that those DVDs are unplayable in the interface.

Here's the kicker: What makes those "special" is that they're stored on a different server than the ones that work ok. (Both the ones which work and the ones which don't are stored on boxes other than the Sage server).

Has anyone seen anything like this???

Man, for once I WANT a company to spam me, but Sage didn't send email about v6 coming out!

Anyway, I am going to upgrade to Sage 6 and the newest SageMC 16x9. I am a Sage 5 + SageMC 16x9 user now... I used to update SageMC just by replacing that one XML file, back when there were still new releases for v5. (that is, I am stuck at 6.13a now.)

Once I install Sage v6 over my v5, will I have to do the SageMC 16x9 "base install" again or can I just get the SageMC_196.xml update like I used to?

TIA for the help.

It might be a good time to do a new fresh install of sage (copying in your old wiz.bin and properties files) and the new base install of SageMC. It could save you some potential problems with jar files that some poeple have had. You could just install the latest dev release of SageMC, but make sure you install all of the files. Some of the jars have changed.

Had today the same issue, the default thumbnail was an image of the start of the picture, and the IMDB save did not save the picture. However, when I - for another reason - restarted Sage the pictures were the IMDB ones!

But have a look at this thread (http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=20661&highlight=thumbnails). That may do it. It:

- Explains the 'delay' in update, as there is a timing set (video_thumbnail_extraction_time_offset_sec=15).
- Allows automatic thumbnail generation to be stopped (video_thumbnail_generation=false).

Regarding the folders, I got something like you have. One top with subdirectories grouping movies and in each of these subdirectories with the actual movies (often only one file, sometimes I added a jpg). I have only the top folder in the video import, as you have, and it works great.

No magic here ;) This is caused by the image cache in the Sage core, the IMDB code saves the image correctly, but Sage still displays the old picture from the cache. There is currently no way around it, other than a restart.

I noticed today while watching my chargers LOSE a game they should have won that if you extend a show by adding time to the end time of a recording the timeline that shows for comskipping does not reflect the added time.. so the game was scheduled from 1:30 to 5:00, but I added 60 minutes to that.. I would have expected, and liked, to see the timeline reflect this.. once it got to the 3:30 hour mark the timeline and current position indicator reached the end of the line..

Is this by design, or it is something that can be fixed?

I was trying to use the DVD burning plugin which creates the lnk and jpg files. When this did not work, I created a shortcut by right clicking in the folder and creating a shortcut named notepad.lnk. My shortcut is to notepad.exe. If I double click the shortcut Notepad will run. I just upgraded to version 6.0.19 of SageTV. This did not help.

Dirk

Not sure exactly what you mean but I do run in overlay mode and at times:

I switch aspect settings and the picture kind of stays the same size and shape. I have to click around with other aspect modes until it finally expands.

Also, at times the little preview screen on lower left (when you exit TV mode with video still playing) when it minimizes, doesn't scale the video in proportion down to the size of the window and only shows a small portion of video (like lower left part of picture).

Same happens occasionally when you have video playing in small screen and you click to go to maximize video the entire screen goes black with the small window still in lower left corner playing video.

Not sure if it is not specific to SageMC though as I never leave the UI....

Nothing major but it happens...

I've been following this thread closely, hoping to hear what you decided about those swapped Title/Tagline filelds in the database. Is there a chance you'll decide that it's worth fixing?

Interesting... :)
Whats the resolution you are running ? And Kirby, whats yours ?

If you are a little familiar with Studio you could search for "StopLabel" and change the font size of the child "Untitled" theme to less than 62 and see if it goes away completely

Change 'AnchorX' of the 'StopLabel' panel, 0.5 should center it

Hi Andy,

Are you using the new command that toggles from one AR mode to the next? Not sure if it is only that command when this happens...

No, it's when executing the old 'SetAspetRatioMode(mode)'. I haven't tried the new command yet...

Are any of the saspect ratio settings modified to custom values? I found that switching modes when using overlay didn't always result in the correct aspect ratio when he H & V stretch values were > 100%.

Yep, I changed the "Height Zoom" of the Fill mode to 133% to get rid of the pillar boxes of 4:3 content without having the picture stretched...

Well, I found that temporarily increasing any of the zoom values by 1% and back while the video is playing fixes the issue and chooses the correct aspect ratio. So I simply added this additional code to the aspect ratio change actions, and it now works flawlessly ... :)

Hi Dirk!

I've been following this thread closely, hoping to hear what you decided about those swapped Title/Tagline filelds in the database. Is there a chance you'll decide that it's worth fixing?

Yes, as you and others pointed out it just makes sense to get in sync with the default STV again. This will be included in the next update

And also, you've fixed so many things in SageMC lately, but the version number is still stitting at 6.3.1. Could you consider bumping the version numbers more often, so people can be sure they are getting the fixed stuff?

Actually, since 6.3.1 I only made public fixes to the dynamic weather map URLs for our european folks, nothing else... I usually put out a maintenance release after I have collected most of the bug reports for a new major release, but this time I got busy with a new server setup and other projects, so it will take a bit longer. I should have something out by the end of this week though

Regarding the folders, I got something like you have. One top with subdirectories grouping movies and in each of these subdirectories with the actual movies (often only one file, sometimes I added a jpg). I have only the top folder in the video import, as you have, and it works great.

Jan

I'm sure I'd tried every single variation, but apparently not. I needed to do "File System," and "Folder." I hadn't noticed the "File System" option the first several times I tried.

Even with that set, though, I was still seeing "2 items" for single things--and removing ALL the import directories still didn't fix it: I ended up seeing one of each thing, but there was no way to update them. It was almost as though items were "stuck" in the database. It turns out they were.

I'd moved Sage to a new server by copying the Sage directory and installing on top of it. I'd found buried in a thread somewhere that Sage has a problem when you change server names (which I'd effectively done). Apparently it only updates entries in the database which were made by that server--leaving all my old entries still there. It's almost like the beginnings of an attempt to support multiple servers serving one database.

To fix it, I had to change the name of the new box to the old one and refresh the database (by adding and removing a channel from the channel lineup). Difficult to say the least, since the old name was still in use and was actually serving up recorded shows I didn't want removed from the database.

Curious: is anyone else (using Overlay) sometimes having problems when switching aspect ratio modes in the OSD (not specific to SageMC though) ?
Dirk
Maybe - It seams as if since I did all of my upgrades in the last 48 hours, changing the aspect ratio in the OSD has either no effect or a minimal one. Adjusting a specific aspect ratio also doesn't seem to work anymore.

I was beginning to think it was related to my other problem, I couldn't get my SD recording to "stretch" to fill my 16:9 TV. I ended up going into the PureVideo settings and changed it to anamorphic/raw. That at least solved that problem.

UPDATE, though: I went to check, and I tried again to check what menus were available. Lo and behold, Google Video was listed this time. I'm not sure why I didn't see it (or it wasn't listed?) last time. Strange, but I'm in good shape now.

SageMC is created using SageTV Studio, which is now available to anyone that has a copy of SageTV. It used to be available only to a select few, but I believe was released sometime in version 4.

It can be kind of considered open source, since you can hit Shift+CTRL+F12, and edit the STV yourself.

It's probably easier to just ask for a feature, and see if Dirk approves it. Otherwise, you would have to make the change yourself every time a new version came out.

Oh, and welcome to SageTV forums! ;)

Check out the Studio manual when you get a moment, and it will give you the basics of editing the STV. I would warn you, that inside the SageMC STV, it can be a bit daunting (sp?), as it can be hard to locate what you are really wanting to edit. With some time, you can see how a lot of things are organized though.

First of all I want to Thank Dirk & everyone else involved for this STV!! We have been running Sage for a few years & I just got to the point where I felt I had things solid enough to try a different STV & all I can say is WOW !! I wish I had loaded it years ago!! I 'm running the current version of Sage in a Client Server configuration & used the full install & everything went flawlessly. The only thing I can't seem to get to work is the built in commercial skipping. I'm using comskip & comskip monitor & it was working well with the default STV with the comskip playback stvi, I have comskip set to generate .edl files & they are there for all the shows, but no skip info shows up when they are played back & the commercials play. I must be missing something simple, but I just cant spot it... Any help will be deeply appreciated!!! :bang:

I'm from Brazil, so I have some issues that I don't think everybody has, those are mainly concerned to the epg's info quality. So, a lot of episodes come to the guide without any information about episode number, etc...

I like to collect some series, and would like to have some information on the episodes. The idea is: grab episode infor from http://tvdb.zsori.com/ or tv.com and assign the correct episode to it.

I will follow your tips and look around Sage Studio.

Finally got around to loading the latest SMC - thanks for including the 'play all music' option, and for including the folder view inside My Music.

I have another request - would it be possible to add a 'sort albums by folder date'? That way, when I rip a newly bought cd, it could appear at the top of the list...

Thanks again for SageMC - loving it...

Yeah, I changed it to anamorphic/raw too, but it didnt help. I assume you are using 100%/100% in the fill settings, so that should be fine, but I am using 133% vertical to get rid of the pillar bars. But as I said, the temporary value change does the trick, so this will be fixed in the next version.

I must have installed comskip at some point when I had a prior version, because when I turned on all the "background commercial processing" options in SageMC, I (eventually) ended up w/ .vprj, .log, .txt, and .ccyes files. They seem to contain information about the comskip processing and the locations, but I don't see the commercials showing up in the time bar at the bottom of the screen and (even w/ the automatic commercial skip turned on) the commercials don't skip.

I see everyone talking about setting things up externally instead, .edl files, etc.
Is what I already have set up going to work, or do I need to start from scratch?

Ok--actually, the time seems to show up ok on the server--just not on the client. Does the client need file-level access to the video directories for the commercial skipping to work? (ie do I have to share out the video directories)?

Thanks

You need to do a bit more than share your drives- all of your SageTV recording folders\drives need to be linked to from the SageTV server as SMB shares, so that the path is the same for the server and the clients.

E.G.:

E:\Sage Recordings will not work but a shared drive called \\Media Server\Sage Recordings will.

flachbar,

You might want to look at the metadata importing logic in SageMC if you haven't (sorry I haven't looked yet). V6 changed the way it stores titles for imported media, it stores the "legacy" title (the one with the path in it) in the same Title field, but also stores the "display" title (without the path) in the Episode field. The result is that if you import metadata in SageMC or something else that's assuming the V5 style, and you use the official STV, you'll get blank titles for (almost) all of the imported media.

First of all--excellent STV!!!! v6 was just getting too cluttered; this is absolutely fantastic on every level!

Does Sage/SageMC (I'm not sure which it is) send just the path (up to \video_ts) for a DVD when starting an external player? It seems that PowerDVD requires something all the way up to the file (eg \video_ts\video_ts.ifo). As a result, I can't get PowerDVD to start as an external player--which is a problem, because Sage6 is cutting off the right third of my screen (http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=22983).

I can't just add that filename to the .cmd file (eg %1\video_ts.ifo) because the path gets quoted.

Any thoughts?

Can we get the rescan library imports option in the pictures library just like in the movies and music libraries? Also there seems to be no way to have the pictures zoom to fill the screen like in the standard stv. And one more thing, is there any way to return to the pop-up for a removable device to copy files to and from after you have closed the pop-up? I see no command or internal screen to do this. I would love some sort of file browse module to make the task of moving files all do-able within Sage.

Not stupid, just ignorant...;)

There should be some good instructions for setting this up on the first post of this thread. You should only need to replace the STV on the clients. What do you plan to use for commercial skip? It is mainly independent of the STV, other than the STV seeing the TXT or EDL comskip file. If you are using clients with comskip, then you need to make sure that the clients can see the comskip file. In other words, look a few posts back, and you'll see what I mean. Post #3451, to be exact.

The STV works great on current SD extenders, once you turn off sounds and animations (the sounds appear on the server, instead of the MVP, and the animations are really slow, if enabled). Comskip works out of the box (if you have it working on the server/clients), since the MVP doesn't really require any special file access configuration.

This may be a stupid or previously answered question-- for that I apologize.

I've got a large selection of my DVD collection ripped to various hard drives. I've imported them into Sage and am using DVD profiler(very cool BTW). I haven't messed with it much, mainly because I'd rather not screw up the DVD stuff, but I'd like a way to keep these DVDs separated from other miscellaneous videos, such as short clips from my digital camera, and downloaded clips off the internet and such. Is there a way to do this currently?

Would it be possible to move imported DVDs from the videos section to the DVD option on the menu? It could be setup similar to My TV menu where a click brings into DVD menu which contains online library of DVDs and one of the options in the section is to load DVD in drive.

Just a thought.

Hi Bryan,

There are a couple of ways you can do this. I think the best way is to assign your videos to custom groups and use the group view. When you enter the group, you can still have the videos organized by genre. Another approach would be to assign custom genres to your videos and just use the genre view. HTH

Or to take arms against a sea of troubles
And by opposing end them...

If it could be configurable - to wrap or not to wrap..

That would be nice. And if set to not wrap, could you keep the focus in the right-side menu and just have it stop at the bottom? Right now, when you get to the bottom of a right-side list, it jumps to the left-side menu and then will wrap-scroll on the left.

Believe me, I tried to find a solution for this several times (it bothers me too), but the Studio widgets simply don't give me enough focus control to achieve this

I'm curious what you are using... Is it some listeners to kill the input when the table doesn't use it? You can use Up & Down listeners under the Table's parent panel to kill up/down input that would get used if the table passes along that input. The table would still scroll, but nothing else would happen when you get to the first or last items.

It's an up/down listener on the button widget that only triggers a 'PassiveListen()' if it's on the first/last table element - like "If (TableRow < Size(List))"

It's an up/down listener on the button widget that only triggers a 'PassiveListen()' if it's on the first/last table element - like "If (TableRow < Size(List))"That will work too. :) Just so you know, though: any listener that the table doesn't use gets passed up the UI widget chain. So, in this case, if you put empty up/down listeners at the next highest widget level above the Table, it will accomplish the same thing w/o any extra code like those if statements.

On a different table w/wrap scrolling, those if statements would stop up/down usage at the first & last elements even when those items were in the middle of the table display. But, placed at the higher panel, it stops in those places when the table isn't full enough to scroll.

Is the actual filename still accessible from the interface? 2.2.8 (the default STV) used to show it under the show's details, which was useful when I needed to do something w/ the actual file (eg copy it to a laptop). I'm thinking that maybe I just have something configured wrong (too large a font for something?) but my show details ends w/ the length (eg 2 hours) followed by a comma--and I don't see a filename. I'm new to v6 and also to SageMC, so I don't know if it was ever there.

Thanks

I'm a happy SageMC user, and suddenly I can not play any DVD's anymore.

I'm running on my HTPC the Sage Service and SageMC.
I'm running on my MVP SageMC.
SageTV V6.0.19.120
Java Version 1.5.0_10
SageMC TV Version: 6.3.1

Recent behaviour:

Playing a DVD results on my MVP in a black screen.
Playing a DVD on my HTPC results in a very quick minimize and 'restore' of the SageMC screen. It is than no longer on the DVD select screen, but on the main screen (did it crash and restart?).

I'm not aware if I did change anything, the only change is a hardware change (replaced one of my 2 monitors by a Samsung flatscreen).

As someone may ask for log files, I enclose a service and a client logfile. These were not generated at same time. I did make the screen 'crash' about 3 times each and than stopped all. Nothing with the MVP, all on the HTPC.

Oh yes, I did got back to the Standard UI, and than I can play these DVD's ...

Any suggestion on how I can fix this would be appreciated (alternative would be to re-install from scratch :( ).

Wow, that's the most diagnostic information I think anyone has provided in a first post about a problem. Great job! ;)

Could this be the dreaded drive letter assignment problem?

What drive letter is your DVD drive, and has this changed recently? Have any of your hard drive letters changed recently?

I can't remember the specifics of that problem or if it's related to the problem you were having. I think the way it was solved, is you had to search through the properties file, and make sure there were no SageMC related properties, set to the DVD drive letter. For instance, one would be to check the DVD Profiler Offline DVD path, etc., and make sure they don't point to the DVD drive...

I'm sorry if this confuses you more, I just thought I remember something like this happening before.

EDIT:

Actually, based on your log files, it looks like you are talking about ripped DVD's and not a regular DVD in a DVD drive, correct?

That's correct, all ripped DVD's.

I'm not that familiar with the interior workings of SageMC, but did notice in the client log

Tue 1/23 20:28:41.895 Sage is going to SLEEP
Tue 1/23 20:28:43.707 Sage is going to SLEEP

For some reason it seems Sage is going to sleep (the 'crash' I observe?).

The server log does give some java errors:

Tue 1/23 20:24:19.881 Error communicating with server:java.net.SocketException: socket closed
Tue 1/23 20:24:22.984 Error w/SageTV client connection:java.net.SocketException: socket closed

But here my knowledge is below zero :D The log is just too much info for me.

Dear Dirk

First of all thank you for the outstanding work on SageMC Great work with high WAF and also very happy user myself

I have been building my Music library recently and come to a point to ask for a feature. Apologizes if it has been asked and answered before.

The situation is that I have for instance an album containing all piano concerts from Beethoven. Typically each concert contains three different tracks (files)
So track 1-3 Piano concert 1 track 4-6 Piano concert 2 and so on.
to play concert 2 or 5 I either have to create a play list or make separate album just containing the tracks for the specific concert. Disadvantage which I do not like, is to get quite a lot of albums for each specific concert in the library which makes it cumbersome to select/find. I rather keep one album with all piano concerts.
My question is:
would it be possible to add a menu item once an album is selected to play from a specific track (file) onwards?
Hope it is.

While you are waiting for a response from Dirk, a work-around for now might be to add each desired track to the queue and then play queue. It is essentially a quick and dirty playlist.

Hi John, I'm trying to stay away from an 'option overkill', especially for such small things. Just edit the color/alpha of the widget selected in the attached screenshot. Well, if this will get requested from a lot of people, I might throw in a setting... ;)

:thumb: That was it, I had "External DVD PLayer" enabled in SageMC settings, and yes - did this very recently. I went through all the settings with installing the new screen, activated in Sage the setting "DVD ROM Drive" and must have read the SageMC settings not good enough and had it confused with DVD ROM Drive enabling. Would it be feasible to add a "Play CD" feature to SageMC? This is totally a WAF request, but occasionally, with a new CD, there are times when it would be more convenient to play it as you would a DVD. Of course, it would be ideal if Winamp visualizations would be supported with this as well.

Just a thought. Perhaps it wouldn't be a popular feature with others, I don't know. I suspect you've already got plenty of requests to keep you busy!!

For those that have not setup commercial skipping, and wish to use ShowAnalyzer and DirMon2 to do it, I've put together a little tutorial on how to go about it.

The one in the Wiki was done a while back, but the interfaces to the two programs have changed enough, that it's a little confusing.

Hi,

I'm having some strange problem with my remote where it somehow convinces Sage that I want channel 7 from the main menu when I turn on the system. This problem could be solved by making the "Channel Jump from Main Menu" an option... Is it possible to make this an option? I know it's caused by the remote, but I'm hoping its easy to turn this into an option...

Thanks in advance, flachbar, if you are able to solve this!

Hi,

SageMC version 6.3.2 can be downloaded here (http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/downloads.php?do=file&id=139).
Changes/additions worth mentioning are:

New Video Import Library metadata usage

To fix the issue with the SageMC video library metadata and the way the default STV handles it since v6.0 I changed the access of metadata in the SageMC STV, it now conforms to the default STV behavior of version 6.0. Unfortunately, this means that your currently existing info in the video library will not show up correctly any more, the titles will be empty. You have the following options:

- if you have everything in DVD Profiler, simply refresh the DVD Profiler metadata
- perform a new manual IMDB lookup for all your videos

You can also try the automatic 'migration' module which can be found in SageMC Settings/Extras. It will scan your database and update the titles of all imported video files automatically. Note that this utility has only to be run once, otherwise it will revert the info back to the original state. I tested it myself on my database without any problems, but I would strongly recommend to make a backup of your wiz.bin. If it doesn't work for any reason, revert to the saved database and update manually.

Fixes and updates for DVD Profiler integration

- I fixed an issue where the cover art imported from DVD Profiler would not be copied to the correct location (for existing 'online' videos). The refresh code copied it into the DVD folder instead of VIDEO_TS, so it couldn't be picked up by Sage. I was surprised that nobody has ever complained about this.

- the DVD Profiler import code was supposed to automatically select all new (non-existing) videos in the import list. This did not work, and has been fixed.

- I often ran into the issue where I mistakenly selected an already existing ('online') video when doing the DVD Profiler import. This generated a new 'fake' mpeg file in the offline folder, and resulted in having two icons for the video showing up in the library. I added a check to the import code to not generate an offline file if a real file already exists.

- Up to now the folder name of existing videos needed to be *exactly* the same as the title in the DVD Profiler database to get recognized during a metadata refresh. I added the ability to name your video folder any way you want, simply enter the real folder name into the 'Original Title' field in DVD Profiler. The metadata refresh will first try to match the folder based on title, and then it will try to match the Original title.

Extended weather maps

Previously the number of weather maps had been limited to 7 (since the left menu can't hold more than 7 buttons). I added a key mapping (configurable in the SageMC settings, it can use 'Custom1'-'Custom5' and 'Info') that will trigger the display of 7 additional weather map buttons, which can be configured in the usual way. I hope 14 maps will now be sufficient for everyone :)

Filtered Menus for Video and Music Library

It is now possible to have separate 'views' onto your music and video library, by pre-filtering the existing media files based on the import folder path. Basically, you can create one or more menu items for the 'My Videos' and 'My Music' menus and associate a specific import folder path with it. When you enter the library, only media files matching the import path will be displayed.

This filtering has been implemented with the 'doclet' functionality of the dynamic menus. Here is an example how to set it up:

1) Enter the following xml text into a text editor:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" standalone="no"?>
<!DOCTYPE sageMenu PUBLIC "-//NIELM//DTD SAGEMENU XML 1.3//EN" "http://www.sage-community.org/~nielm/nielm_modules/dynamic_menu/sagemenu_1_3.dtd">
<sageMenu version="1.3">
<internalScreenMenuItem
screen="My Music"
title="Classical Music">
<evalExpression>AddStaticContext("PathFilterExpr", "\\\\mediapc\\music\\Classic")</evalExpression>
<evalExpression>AddStaticContext("PathFilterExcludes", false)</evalExpression>
</internalScreenMenuItem>
</sageMenu>

2) Edit the 'PathFilterExpr' and change it to the import path you want to filter on. Note that this has to match the folder name in the import libraries configuration exactly (case-sensitive!) If 'PathFilterExcludes' is 'false', only media files imported from the path specified will be displayed. If it is 'true', all media files from this path will be *excluded* from the view. Set 'screen' to 'My Music' or 'Video Library Folder View", and set 'title' to the title for the menu item.

3) Copy the whole xml text into the windows clipboard

4) Bring up the dynamic menu options dialog and select 'New...', it should offer you a menu item 'Paste Menu Item from clipboard'.

I use this functionality to separate my wife's classical music collection from our Pop/Rock CD collection, but it can e.g. also be used to limit access to certain video files (parental lock) by defining two separate menus for the video libray, one freely accessible for anyone, and one protected with a PIN code.

External Screensaver

You can now use any external program (including any Windows screensaver module) as the SageMC screensaver. There is a new screensaver options menu in the SageMC options which offers a new style 'External Cmd'. Select the executable (or *.scr file for Windows screensaver) and optional any command line parameter (has to be '-s' for *.scr files), and the next time the Sage screensaver kicks in the external command gets executed. I've tested it with various screensavers (including an Aquarium screensaver), and it works like a charm :)

Here's the list of other fixes and additions in this release:

- fixed: incorrect hour display in diskbar
- fixed: dynamic weather map URLs for European date format
- fixed: ticker not updating, centered ticker headline vertically
- fixed: context sensitive Home cmd in std main menu not working
- fixed: dimensions of "Update DVD Profiler Metadata" dialog
- workaround for core bug: switch aspect ratio not always working in overlay mode
- fixed: bleeding stop dialog
- added: disable main menu side menus if a PIN has been defined on the menu
- added: vertical ticker scrolling
- added: "max characters" setting for RSS ticker headline to avoid resizing (sorry, scrolling out left is not doable)
- added: show "Watched" button for videos in left hand menu
- added: RSS ticker enable/disable to OSD options menu
- added: Media Extender Quality setting to Detailed Setup
- added: "Play Album from here" in Album view
- added: "Rescan Library Folders" button to Picture library
- added: option to display single pictures zoomed
- added: option to append "\video_ts.ifo" to the external DVD player call
- added: option to disable channel entry feature in standard main menu

I also updated the full installation package which can be found here (http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/downloads.php?do=file&id=141).

Note that there have been quite a lot of feature requests in the last weeks, and I was only able to get some of them into this release. If a particular feature is not included, it doesn't necessarily mean that I decided against it :)

Enjoy,

Dirk

Unfortunately, this doesn't work. :( After reset it still says "Untitled". I am not running a Sage server or anything. Any other ideas?

So far everything else is looking good. DVD Profiler refresh was fine and fixed dialog box worked.

Crap, I put the old sagemc.jar file from December into the update package (the full install package is fine). Just extract the attached file into your SageTV directory, after shutting down the UI. For MVP/Placeshifter you also have to shutdown the service.

Sorry for this faux-pas

What effect does this have if you are using FSE?
To be honest, I don't know. I don't use FSE and haven't tested it yet. If you wanna try it then let me know how it goes, otherwise I'll test it sometime later myself

Nice progress here!!!

Can we have an option on the left hand side of the screen while viewing a list of recordings under a grouping (view by group) to delete all? This is the screen where currently there is also an option to compress all on the left. I would like an option to delete all, and then perhaps that could have an "are you sure" kind of popup, since someone could accidently delete so much. Some people around here forget to clean up things they have watched. :p

Thanks Dirk. Bloodbath and vertical scrolling on the RSS Ticker are awesome.

Also, the DVD Profiler implementation seems to work better. I knew there was always some fussing around with it that I had to do, but I just figured it was my fault. I deleted all my offline content, and did a fresh import, and it looks beautiful.

Oh man, I'm going to have some fun with this. Thanks Dirk!

Maybe I am doing something wrong, but I can't get the filtered video library list to work.

This is my menu:
<internalScreenMenuItem screen="Video Library Folder View" title="Kids Videos">
<evalExpression>AddStaticContext("PathFilterExpr", "M\:\\KidsVideos")</evalExpression>
<evalExpression>AddStaticContext("PathFilterExcludes", false)</evalExpression>
</internalScreenMenuItem>

And this is from my Sage.properties file:
seeker/archive_directory=P\:\\MyMusic,2;P\:\\Photo Storage,4;M\:\\MyDVDs,1;M\:\\MyVideos,1;M\:\\KidsVideos,1;

No matter what I do it brings up the entire video list, not the filtered list.

By the way  This feature is a request that I have wanted to ask for, for the longest time. We have over 90 Sesame Streets recorded for my sons, and I had previously modified the SageMC STV to have a custom menu for them, but I got tired of rolling my code into the updated SageMC.

Maybe you need to use UNC paths for this and not mapped drives. Don't know-that's what the example had.

Dirk,

Been using SageMC for a long time. Great work! I have a feature request that you might be able to implement within the code that you have for the RSS display. In the past, I requested a Weather Alert (http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17164&highlight=weather) since we all rarely watch live TV now. After looking at your RSS implementation I got the idea of using the RSS feed from the National Weather Service (http://www.weather.gov/alerts/)instead of the originally proposed CAP feed. Could you add the options per feed? I really don't want news showing up on the OSD, but would like the Weather feed to show up everywhere and with higher priority.

My thoughts for the weather alert would be -
show on all screens
Bigger font, maybe a different color, or flashing
higher priority than other RSS feeds

Thanks again!

No, it's not required to use UNC paths. But I spotted the error: use

AddStaticContext("PathFilterExpr", "M:\\KidsVideos")
instead of

AddStaticContext("PathFilterExpr", "M\:\\KidsVideos")

The '\' to escape the ':' is only necessary in property files, but not in Java strings.

Let me know if this solves your problem.

How hard would it be to get the RSS feed to continue to run off the left hand side of the screen instead of it stopping as soon as it hits it and fade out? I just think the effect would look more appropriate. But if it is too hard to program I understand.

Actually, in this note I was talking about scrolling off to the left to show headlines that are longer than the screen width, to avoid resizing. This is, as far as I can see, not possible. Scrolling off to the left in general might work, I'll look into it (it would look much better, I agree :))

Dirk,

The update is wicked awesome. I was able to figure out how to manipulate view restriction for a video folder with:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" standalone="no"?>
<!DOCTYPE sageMenu PUBLIC "-//NIELM//DTD SAGEMENU XML 1.3//EN" "http://www.sage-community.org/~nielm/nielm_modules/dynamic_menu/sagemenu_1_3.dtd">
<sageMenu version="1.3">
<internalScreenMenuItem
screen="Video Library Folder View"
title="Kids Movies">
<evalExpression>AddStaticContext("PathFilterExpr", "\\\\SageTV-Server\\Media1\\Movies")</evalExpression>
<evalExpression>AddStaticContext("PathFilterExcludes", true)</evalExpression>
</internalScreenMenuItem>
</sageMenu>

By setting excludes to true this menu will exclude the directory with content not appropriate for my kids. Right now they have more content in the videos than my wife and I. However, when I add another drive for the the not kid friendly films, can I add a second PathFilterExpr? Or how do you combine multiples?

TIA

B

Maybe I'm jumping in when I shouldn't & don't fully know what is being talked about... ;) ... to scroll text to the left until it reaches the end of the string: how about just animating its panel & remove the first char every X milliseconds? Text that is too long to fit ("..." on the right side) would eventually become visible. And, if there is more news, you could just keep tacking on the next news item when the current one gets short enough.

I haven't seen the display in question, so if yoiu already do this or something better, then never mind & I'll go back to reading other things. :)

I have been doing a little testing with the new screensaver feature and did run into a similar problem with an Aquarium screensaver. I use sendmessages instead of actual keystrokes, so I don't know if that made a difference. But sspipes.scr worked ok, working with my remote and sendmessages.

Although, when recovering from the screensaver, SageMC goes back to the main menu and I have to resume the video, instead of recovering directly back into the paused video.

I also ran into a problem with the Aquarium screensaver only running for a second, and then coming back up to the main menu. It wouldn't work in VMR9 but would work in Overlay. I saw some DX9 errors in the logs, but went with sspipes and that worked, so I stopped troubleshooting it for now.

Hi B,

I was already expecting this question to come up. ;) Answer: still TBD. I'll probably have to move the filter code to java where it will be much easier to deal with multiple expressions.

Hi Andy,

though this would certainly work, I don't think anyone would like it - I implemented *smooth* pixel-wise scrolling for the ticker headline, and removing a whole character would simply look too choppy... ;)

Last night I found a solution to continue the smooth scrolling off the left by using negative X anchor points, but I still think that for strings that are longer than the screen width it is very difficult or even impossible to achieve this without some support from the core.

But thanks for the suggestion,

Dirk

LOL, just use a small font, and vertical scrolling! It's awesome. I have the font set to 10 on my 37" TV, and it's fairly readable at 8 feet or so (1080p). On the MVP, I have it set to 12, on a 22" 480p TV.

Now, if I could find a way for the icons (recording, first run, etc.) to not look gigantic on the MVP, everything would be perfect.

Regarding the command line parameters, what options are there. I was trying Water Illusion, an .exe screensaver, and it worked. But, when you wake up Sage, the screen saver was still running in the background. Remove the -s switch and it just opens up the screensavers control panel on sleep.

Yeah, as far as I know there are only -s to run it in screensaver mode, and -c (equivalent to no option) to open its configuration screen
