I just DL'ed the demo of it and it looks good, and works good. Looks like it maybe just a issue with that screensaver. Oh well, no big deal.

I just tested my aquarium screensaver with FSE on my machine, and it seems to be a no-go... :( I doubt I can do anything about it

I just tested several Windows screen savers from Windows\system32 (including ssstars.scr), and they all exit fine. Did you disable 'Exit on any key' by any chance ?

Im having trouble with clearing the My Aquarium with my remote as well.

Im using a MX-500 with a USB-UIRT and im not using send message. Exit on any key is enabled and I can clear it with the keyboard and mouse.

What is the limitation to the demo version? It it worth the $20?
Limited number of species of fish available, will only remember 3 fish when it next starts up, automatically powers down monitor after 10 minutes.

Is it worth it ? In my opinion, absolutely. It has the best fish motion / behavior model I've seen so far, *quite* close to the real thing. And they just released a new beta (available in the forum) which contains a new "camera" view that randomly zooms / follows different fishs, pretty cool. I would suggest to try some of the other main sims out there (I used http://aquarium-screensavers-software-review.toptenreviews.com/index.html for some links), and decide yourself...

Hi Technazz,

no, not at all. I just wanted to make the point that "sendmessage" only applies in an environment where you use something like Girder to control SageTV...

I downloaded the 'My Aquarium' screen saver and tried to exit it without Girder, and it still worked fine for me. Since this is seems to be an issue for quite a few people there has to be something externally which is causing it, but I can't figure out what it is...

Tried this for the first time last night, and I'm very impressed. It looks amazing on my widescreen TV through my MVP!

Whilst playing a video, changing the aspect ratio to either Fill, Source, 4:3, or 16:9 makes no difference. The video always fills the screen. Works perfectly on my PC though, I only get this issue through my MVP. I'm assuming that this is a limitation of the MVP?

Also, when viewing 'My Videos' by folders (rather than by Genre, etc.) I can only access one of my video import folders. I have "E:\Video" and "F:\Video" both set up as video import folders, but I can only see "E:\Video". It's strange, because in any other view mode, the videos from "F:\Video" appear 'in the mix' as normal.

is there any difference in leaving the screensaver running all the time versus having it timeout to a blank screen. i leave the htpc on 24/7, and would like as little stress on it as possible during the rest periods...as far as hdd powering down and whatever else.

Is there a way to add Refresh Imported Media to my menus. I couldn't find it in Internal Programs. I do not like to regularly scan imported media I like to refresh it manually,

If you go into Imported Videos and pull up the option menu when the curser is on one of the left buttons, and not one of the videos, one of the options should be to refresh the media library.

Have you changed the aspect ratio settings for fill, source, 4:3 and 16:9 from the options menu when playing a video? (MVP will be a differant properties file and so differant settings)

I seem to remember the defaults are to have them all at 100%

I am having a few problems with the auto comress feature.

1. The entries that it is putting into the sage.properties for the favorites is putting in the wrong name for the transcode format. I have manuly changed these names and it seems to be working OK until I set another favorite to auto compress than that entries has to be changed too.

2. The MVP client does not seem to fire the Auto Compress job on the server. When I launch a placeshifter client on the server it does launch the job. I do not know if the MVP client is supposed to be able to launch the jobs or not.

I really like this feature. I think I might just have some config problems. I would be very happy with any help I can get.

The source should tell it to Sage, and in one of the settings you tell Sage to use the source info (you can also tell Sage to use 16:9 or 3:4 for instance).

However, the source does not always pass that info that well. I use the STV Import: Automatic Aspect Ratio Switcher for SageTV 4 (http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=14146)which works great on my MVP.

My point it, that these manual look ups work fine, but then you can't save it (save button not working)...meaning that you can never get the data to stick after you exit and go back to that video again. I think I found the reason the MVP client does not fire the Auto Compress Logic (Attached code snippet). Is the restriction that the app running the Autocomress thread has be a server ui necessary? I removed the restriction and it seems to be working OK on the MVP now.

Well, a server UI is not necessary, but the check is in there to prevent that multiple compression threads are started if you have a server UI and one or more remote clients running at the same time. This check will be removed once I implement the compression thread (and others) to run at server startup.

If you don't have a server UI and only one remote client running, it is indeed safe to remove the check in the Studio code.

Yes, the IMDB search should be working in general. But due to the metadata changes the "Rename Title" got broken, and this will be fixed in the next version.

Do you still see "MPEG4 in AVI-High Quality" as the default when you create a new Favorite ? I fixed this in 6.3.2, it should now be "MPEG4-High Quality AVI"

Well, it certainly depends on which screensaver type you have configured (slideshow, external, etc). If you really want the least impact on your system, choose Logo or blank screen.

This is strange, there should be no difference between the 'By Folder' and the other views. I just tested it here by setting up import folders 'D:\TEST' and 'E:\TEST', and videos from both folders showed up in all views.

Just not there...BTW: you can manually set up a title-only keyword favorite by adding TITLE: in front of the keyword(s).

OK, I figured out what is causing me to see nothing. I had the option in SageMC settings for "Use .my files" set to enabled. Once I turned that off, I can see the saved IMDB data. This causes another problem though. I wanted to use .my files, but only for TV show metadata to get archived along with the show files. That way, I do not need to necessarily preserve my wiz.bin, and also makes my TV recordings more portable to my other Sage installation. Any ideas on how to have the .my file ability for TV shows, but then ignore them if better data exists? Or maybe the IMDB data could be saved to a .my file also?

This should already work that way. Even if you have 'Use .my files' enabled, SageMC will only use the .my file info if a .my file exists for a video file, otherwise it will use the metadata from the SageTV wiz.bin. Did you create a .my file for those videos in the past ?

Also, you can create / update a .my file with the wiz.bin info by selecting 'Send To .my file' from the Video Info screen

You know, I've often thought the same thing. Now that I'm using an MVP, if we ever had one in the guest bedroom, it would be nice that if they watched a show that we normally watched, but had not watched it yet, that it would not be deleted until all "required" people have watched it.

Sounds like it could be very complicated, but a great idea, nonetheless.

It turns out to be much more difficult than I first thought, so it may not make it into the next version. If you only have one remote client running, then the removal of the condition in the Studio code can be a workaround for now...

I've been using SageMC for awhile but have done a clean install everytime I upgraded to a new version. Now my Sage install is releatively stable and I'd rather not have the hassle.

So for upgrading do I just need to extract the newest SageMC pack to the approprate folder and then load the STV from the settings panel as usual? Also do I have to reinstall my imports (i.e. Movietimes, etc.) after installing the new SageMC? Thanks

download the upgrade package
shut down the UI (and server if you are running MVP / Placeshifter)
extract all files in the package
start up UI
load the new STV file
restart the UI once more and you are done. If you really want to play it safe, simply backup the whole SageTV directory to SageTV.bak (or similar). If anything goes wrong, just delete the SageTV dir and rename SageTV.bak back to SageTV

Oops, must have missed that one ;)

Yeah, you will always have to re-import all you plugins after updating the STV. If you are upgrading often then my importer plugin (http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/downloads.php?do=file&id=71) will ease this procedure a little.

I have set the "Reset watched shows when playing again" to no, as I expected that if I would go in the 3e time, it would start from beginning (so only the second time I would 'continue' where last stopped). But it doesn't work that way, it always 'continues'.

How can I force a movie to restart from the start. With a DVD Sage asks if you want to continue or restart.

If I add the same internal screens using the SageMC Custom1-Custom5 interface, they work fine. But anything I add to the Dynamic Menu gets added fine, but will not launch anything. This is true when I try to launch them from the MyMenu interface, or whether I make the Dynamic Menu my home screen. I also tried doing a clean install and had the exact same problem.

Can you check if you have a net/sf/sageplugins/sagemenu folder in your SageTV directory left over from a previous installation ? If so, delete this folder and restart SageMC

I'll do some more troubleshootin tommorow, and try the bat file in the standard STV, and return with experiences.

Okay guys I'm totally frustrated, any help is greatly appreciated. I can't seem to get commercial skipping on my sageMC client. I have tried the following :

1. Made sure path is \\Computer\Drive and the drive is accessible (on server and client)
2. Installed and re-installed version 6.3.2 and 6.3.1
3. Made sure commercial-auto skip is enabled.
4. Made sure UI works on server
5. edl files are created on the server and I made sure the commercial skip works on the server.

Anything else that I'm missing?!

It's whatever you called the share and not necessarily the drive. Mine is

\\Freenas\dvd\DVD


That happens to be the media server D: drive.
dvd is the share name and DVD is a folder on the share.

Yeah I know. I put the recordings (for me) under \\Angelina\SageRecordings, that's what I've named the share. I wonder if it has something to do with Windows firewall.... any way to debug this?

BTW I finally bit the bullet and reformated and re-installed everything on my client PC. I still have the problem so I know for sure it's not the software on the client side. I'm guessing it's some communication thing between the client and server.... any ideas how to debug.

I recall having a problem when setting up ep's dvd burning stuff to run from my client pc. The original recording path appeared to be stored in the sage database and I could only successfully process files that had been recorded to the \\myserver\sagerecordings path. Anything that had been recorded prior to my recording setting change failed because it was passing the original f:\sagerecordings path.

Does it work if you try a recording that's been made since the change?

Not sure yet, the program just finished, running comskip now. I also noticed something else, in my SageClient.properties file it doesn't use my path to my video server i.e. \\Angelina\Recordings, it actually has

seeker\video_storage=C:\\blah\\Recordings, which is the path the Server would use. Also I have that same directory made by Sage on my client computer. If I delete the directory it makes it again. Maybe I should try modifying the properties file, but I assumed that was done by the settings.

I double and tripled checked, all my paths in the UI are set to \\Angelina\Recordings. Wonder where it's getting this other path from?

I don't know if this is what you are looking for, but you can create a shortcut to your bat file, set '"Run minimized" in the properties, and select this one to execute.

Also, I noticed one thing when I was converting some directories/drives...if DirMon2 is used to run SA, and you have one of the directories that you are deleting, DM2 will go out and create that directory again, if it's not there. Once you change the settings in DM2, it will stop doing that.

I often take a TV recorded movie, strip it from publicity and store it in a video directory (a subdirectory per movie). To not loose the info, I use .my files which I copy along.

In the video directory, I do not see any picture anymore with the movie but an initial frame image of that movie. I than select the IMDB search and save that data. I guess it saves the data in the Sage db, so it does not impact what I see: the .my info.

So far so good, but ... Although I now got a .jpg in the subdirectory containing the movie's image, it is not shown in SageTV ... still get that first frame picture.
However, if I stop/start SageTV, all is ok and the .jpg is used. I have waited for a day to see if it was a matter of time before SageTV picked the .jpg up, but nope.

Am I doing something wrong? Don't believe the stop/start should be required.

I've been experimenting with an animated main menu ( the std one not the dynamic ) flachbar is it possible to get this included in a future release? as it is right now the menu works but my experimentations with myTV side popup aren't fruitful, I can't figure out how to resolve the bug, The menu is listed in the new format but can't execute the item, maybe a trained eye can pick it up right away ;)

i've attached the complete STV xml file, don't know how to make an STVi. You'll also find attached popup_arrows.zip, unzip these into the skins' Images directory (it's for the new popup)

Dirk…First of all, I can’t thank you enough for your work on SageMC. The interface is the best in the business…especially the music section. I’ve tried a lot of the different media players and front-ends and SageMC has them all beat. It’s the only one that allows for some pretty sophisticated manipulation of the music library from a remote control on a living room TV from 10 feet away. SWEET!!!

Questions:

1). Some FLAC files are not importing. It seems to be just classical files, which by the way have very long titles and artist names. Is their a character limitation per field for FLAC tags? Is this a Sage thing or a SageMC thing?


2). It appears that when using MP3 files with IDV2.3 tags, SageMC will read and display in song details ALBUM ARTIST, COMPOSER and YEAR fields, but not so with FLAC files. Is this a Sage or SageMC issue? Can these be added for FLAC files? Also would like to request adding CONDUCTOR and CONTENT GROUP to fields read list.

3). How are the ARTIST, ALBUM ARTIST and COMPOSER fields being managed, specifically for FLAC? SageMC appears to have the ability to draw from all three of these fields and then list and organize the content in the VIEW BY ARTIST field. Options menu allows you to choose between one, two or all three of these fields to draw from. It appears like it also has the ability to use multiple artists in the ARTIST field, semi-colon delimited (separated), and SageMC breaks the separated names into their own separate entries for VIEW BY ARTIST. Can this also occur in the ALBUM ARTIST field? Again, it appears to work this way for MP3s with IDV2.3 tags. It seems like for FLAC files ALBUM ARTIST is simply copying the first entry in the ARTIST field. Is this correct? I ask because I would like to leave the artist field with just one entry so that it plays nice with other software programs and then list the multiple artists in the ALBUM ARTIST field and have SageMC break these up into separate artists. Make sense?

4). Would it be possible to use multiple genres in the GENRE field, semi-colon delimited, and have SageMC break them up into separate genre listings.

5). Could VIEW BY GENRE be added to the library view options. This way I can add multiple genres to the qeue. Say I wanted to listen to a shuffled combination of JAZZ and R&B. I could select VIEW BY GENRE, select JAZZ, select add to qeue, repeat process for R&B. I know there is FILTER BY GENRE available, but there is no way to add the whole genre to the qeue this way. Does this make sense?

6). When an artist is selected and all their albums are in view, would it be possible to add a sort filter by the YEAR field. That way all the albums by that artist would display in chronological order.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

This thread has been too quiet lately, so I thought I'd chum the waters a bit and post a screenshot of something I've been working on for about a week. It is a toolbar with full mouse support. The toolbar is normally hidden at the top of the screen and rolls out when the top edge of the screen is clicked or the toolbar is focused by keyboard/remote. This is not just photoshopped. ;) Everything you see is operational and all of the graphics are original (except the weather icons). I hope to have it available either in one of the next SageMC releases or as a separate import when it is ready. As of now I only have it in the main menu, but I plan on making it available in all screens. I may still change the layout but this gives an idea of one of the things I've been working on. Hopefully someone will find it useful.

Yeah, the speaker icon is for mute. When mute is activated, a red circle-slash appears over the speaker. I hadn't thought about volume control, but that would be easy to add if I can make room. Just a Vol+ and Vol- button grouped separately with the mute button should do the trick. I like the shortcut idea, but I would probably have to ask Dirk to help me with that. These additions might also require losing the weather and calendar icons to make room. I'll have to think about it. Good suggestions!

I'm having a couple issues under 'My Videos' on SageTV Client v6.0.19 running SageMC v6.3.1.

1. A few of my pictures folders/files are showing up under "My Videos". Though '\\Server\My Pictures' has many many more folders/files than are showing up, only these few are being displayed. I checked the properties for these particular folders and files, and they match the others.

2. I have my DVD library backed up and is working great under "My Videos" usind IMDB search & save video info. However, occassionally I get a DVD cover that is incorrect or dont like. Is there anyway to default back to use 'folder.jpg' after the IMDB info has been saved?

If you are running sage in service mode on your server, try logging in to the same account you are running the service under. I found I had to do this to get an imported video share on my client to show up. I had essentially the exact same situation you are describing. HTH

It's sounds this should be it. But... on the servers SageTV service control, it needs a password for .\Mike I get the error "Accounts with black passwords may not be used for service logon. Please set a password for this account."

I do not have a password for this account so that on bootup it automatically starts Windows and the startup programs/services. I primarily need RealVNC Server (service) to start so I get a GUI on my Workstation\Client computer. My server does not have monitor/keyboard/mouse.

Is there a way to set a password for .\Mike and still start Windows without a login\password?

That is the ticker, which I assume you don't have any feed set up for. You can go into the ticker options (I think that's where it is) and turn off the ticker in the screensaver.

Other than the new YouTube feature, is there anything in the new release candidate that we would not have using SageMC? I just loaded up the RC and my HD playback seems better, but haven't reloaded SageMC yet - I want to run a few different HD records first to see if playback stays consistent and stutter free.

Jan, it's not a matter of starting/stopping - the Sage core need a library rescan to pick up the new picture. Try a manual import folder rescan the next time (from options menu in Video Library), and the new image should show up right away

SageMC doesn't do anything special for tag parsing (in fact it can't), it simply uses whatever the Sage core supplies. So anything tag / metadata related would have to be addressed in the core, and not SageMC

I ask because I would like to leave the artist field with just one entry so that it plays nice with other software programs and then list the multiple artists in the ALBUM ARTIST field and have SageMC break these up into separate artists. Same as 1) and 2), SageMC just uses the official Sage API's for handling / filtering these three fields, so any shortcomings would have to be addressed there

5). Could VIEW BY GENRE be added to the library view options. This way I can add multiple genres to the qeue. Say I wanted to listen to a shuffled combination of JAZZ and R&B. I could select VIEW BY GENRE, select JAZZ, select add to qeue, repeat process for R&B. I know there is FILTER BY GENRE available, but there is no way to add the whole genre to the qeue this way. Does this make sense?

A separate VIEW BY GENRE view wouldn't be much different to the existing filter view, but I try to think of a way to add the feature you requested


6). When an artist is selected and all their albums are in view, would it be possible to add a sort filter by the YEAR field. That way all the albums by that artist would display in chronological order.

I agree. I completely avoid the top rated videos because it just amounts to varying degrees of smut. The google picks seem to be a better bet, but we still hardly ever use the feature.

Just go to the Detailed Setup menu on your MVP and load the SageMC_169.xml file as you did on your PC.

I tried it with the default STV which allowed me to "play" the .JPG and it turned out to be currupt picture files embeded with video. A while back after some HD trouble, Windows fdisk fix utility screwed up alot of .mp3's and other documents buy mixing up their content.

Yep, that fixed it. Again with Windows.... the Thumbs.db I was looking at in Explorer wasn't updated after the new IMDB pics were imported. Thanks for all the help Dirk. Great work with SageMC!

Jan, it's not a matter of starting/stopping - the Sage core need a library rescan to pick up the new picture. Try a manual import folder rescan the next time (from options menu in Video Library), and the new image should show up right away

Hate to reply to myself, but I got it fixed. I don't know what caused this, but something had a hold of the Images directory, so it couldn't be renamed. I happened to try to rename it myself manually and got an error that something was using it. A reboot solved it.

I have another question though. I was editing the menu with my MVP remote and couldn't figure out how to type capital letters. Is this a known feature or did I just miss something?

Very nice, looks like it was maybe inspired by the mouse menus in MCE (although I must say, I like the format and look of this one much better :D ).

This thread has been too quiet lately, so I thought I'd chum the waters a bit and post a screenshot of something I've been working on for about a week. It is a toolbar with full mouse support. The toolbar is normally hidden at the top of the screen and rolls out when the top edge of the screen is clicked or the toolbar is focused by keyboard/remote. This is not just photoshopped. ;) Everything you see is operational and all of the graphics are original (except the weather icons). I hope to have it available either in one of the next SageMC releases or as a separate import when it is ready. As of now I only have it in the main menu, but I plan on making it available in all screens. I may still change the layout but this gives an idea of one of the things I've been working on. Hopefully someone will find it useful.

Here is a quick update. After some serious tinkering, I have the toolbar working with mouse rollover support. I'll be adding volume control buttons in addition to the existing mute button and probably a pulldown favorites menu of some sort (if I can figure out how to do it ;) ). That should round out the basic functionality. I'll probably also supply some optional alternate toolbar backgrounds in different colors. All of the graphics used are .png files, so the adventurous soul could completely customize the look with a replacement background and icons.

When using playlists in the music mode, the previous and next buttons do not work. Only the FF and RW. Also the wrong buttons are used. instead of << or >> performing RW and FF the |<< and >>| perform RW and FF the << and >> do nothing. Usally the |<< and >>| skip sons like chapters in a movie.

I am using the latest 19x9 dev build an an MVP. Alos Sage 6.0.19.

You are talking about the 'Now Playing' screen, right ? This sounds like a setup /mapping issue with you remote to me ...

The control buttons on the screen are mapped as follows:

|<< Skip to previous track
|>> Skip to next track
<< Rewind (number of seconds specified for 'Rewind' in DetailedSetup/Customize/FF and Rewind times
>> Fast Forward (number of seconds specified for 'Fast Forward' in DetailedSetup/Customize/FF and Rewind times

For your remote, the buttons should be mapped to the following Sage commands:

Skip to previous track button: Skip Bkwd #2
Skip to next track button : Skip Fwd #2
Rewind button: Skip Bkwd / Page left
Fast Forward button: Skip Fwd / Page right

Do you have mapped your buttons differently ?

I have Sage setup to use the transparent menus. When I use SageMC it works fine until I minimize the app. Once I bring it back up the menus are no longer transparent. After I start a video or go to a guide they are transparent again. Anyway to keep them transparent all the time? Chad

I tried the margin controls in sagemc menu options but thats not it. I also have sage running on the server and it doesn't have this problem.

When I went to set the "Ignore channels" in the comskip options on the mvp there was no erase/back or comma so I just entered bogus numbers and exited. This works great on the server with a keyboard and mouse. Can I address this in the properties file. I didn't see a parameter that looked appropriate.

As you can see my problems are mostly misunderstandings and pretty minor at that. If someone could point me in the right direction it would me most appreciated.

You may need to reduce the font size for the clock display. I think this should be available under the Setup/SageMC/ menu. There should be a selection for 'fonts and colors' or something like that.

The 'stop' button acts as a backspace and the 'guide' button toggles between upper/lower case in the numeric/text entry dialogs. HTH

Ah ok, I see now, the MVP remote ff/rwd buttons are mapped to smooth ff/rew by default. I've added listeners for those to the new version. If you want to use the skip track functionality, you still need to map the |< and >| buttons to skip bkwd#2 / skip fwd#2

I mapped the options button and it works like a charm.

I had tried to change the font size before along with compact clock on/off, no joy. There are two icons on the same line as the date, record? (red cassette) and conflicts (gold ball with exclamation point), maybe these are squeezing out the room needed for date? I just turned off conflict icons and it fixed it!

I still don't seem to have controll over the erase/back in ignore channels under commercial skip. I used your previous info and remapped the stop function to the stop button and nothing, but the new options button gets me out of that input process cleanly. I believe the ignore channel setup on the server should cover the info comskip needs so I'd like to erase the bogus entry on the MVP.

I just wanted to say that my latest upgrades to Sage v 6 and SageMC16x9 have been a fantastic experience and everythig is working extremely well. Time to image this partition w/ghost.

The "Recorded" settings apply to all lists of existing recordings, the "Scheduled" settings to all lists of scheduled recordings, the "Guide" settings to the EPG menu, and the 'Other' settings to any other place where icons are displayed.



Multiple path filter expression

You can now set up multiple filters for the filtered Video/Music menus. If the 'PathFilterExcludes' is false, a video/music file will be included in the view if it exists in any of the specified paths. If 'PathFilterExcludes' is true, the file will get excluded. Here is an example of creating a music view which includes files of the directories "d:\music\Albums" and "d:\music\MP3":

Mouse navigation

1) Every SageMC menu screen has now a well defined 'click spot' in the upper left corner which will execute the 'Back' command if clicked:

This should work on any screen. On the main menu, the click spot is used to toggle between windowed and fullscreen mode.


2) The Guide has been enabled for mouse navigation. You will need to disable the setting "Show current time marker in EPG" in SageMC Options/Visual in order for this to work. It will allow focusing / selecting a Guide entry with the mouse, and horizontal Guide scrolling by clicking on the left- and rightmost time interval header.


Install instructions:

As always, shut down the UI, extract all files in the package, load the new STV, and restart once more. I included Niel's latest JAR update for the IMDB search.

Note: The full install has not been updated yet, I'll post another announcement for this, probably tomorrow.

Yeah, Mike was talking about the SageMC specific text entry dialogs (which accept STOP), but the one in the comskip settings is still the default one. If you want to clear out the entry in the property file, the setting name is "background_commercial_processing_ignore"

Dirk, thanks for the R-L scrolling RSS Feed. Just noticed it still resizes the text now. With this new feature I don't think you need to resize. Also is it possible to remove the title of the RSS Feed? It becomes redundant when using the webserver scheduled recording RSS feed. (Sage Recording, CNN ect)

With the recent update, I can't stop the DVD no matter what, it will continiuously restart it. The only way to stop it was to play another video (live or recorded).

I agree with this request (an option to remove the title field from being displayed). My lovely local newspaper has no clue what they are doing, so their .RSS feeds all show as " .COM" as the source...

It would be cool if we could replace the title text with an image for the source (ie: a CNN logo displays next to the feed).

Hey guys, wondering about a certain behvaiour...

I view my music library via "Artist" and with the default Sage theme, I can tap (say for example) the "t" on my remote and it will automatically scroll down to the T's... with SageMC, this does not work.

I wouldn't usually care that much but this behaviour DOES work in the "My Videos" section, so it's kind of strange that it doesn't for My Music.

Any ideas?

Sorry, but I already tried to explain this earlier: this is not possible without some sort of support from the core. The scrolling is implemented by moving the full ticker bar with text through invisible portions of the screen, but the full text still has to fit within the screen width. So the text has either to get resized, or cut off after fixed number of characters


Also is it possible to remove the title of the RSS Feed? It becomes redundant when using the webserver scheduled recording RSS feed. (Sage Recording, CNN ect)

Really ? I couldn't imagine how, since there is no code in the STV for doing that ;). This is a new feature in the V6 default STV, and has not yet been ported to SageMC.

Ther are the letter bars on the right side (when you navigate all the way to the right), but those are available in both My Music and My Videos.

6.3.2a added "Back" functionality for all menu screens, and mouse support for the Guide. There are certainly still areas where mouse support is missing, most noticeably probably the video transport controls in the OSD menu.

Not sure why the update would have changed those settings, but check:

- 'Sleep and Shutdown' is enabled in the options menu if you are using SageMC main menu

- 'Options/Shutdown Menu enabled' in the options menu if you are using the dynamic main menu

For the animations, check if they are enabled in Settings/SageMC/Visual

Here are just a couple small issues I have run into with the newest SageMC.

1. Pressing stop in the internal DVD player causes the DVD to restart from the beginning. I have to use the popup menu to exit the DVD. Then press stop to stop playback. Once I do that it switchs to LiveTV even though I wasnt watching live TV before hand. Pressing stop now switched back to playing the DVD, and the entire process starts again. (setting 'back on stop' to 'disabled' fixes this issue, but then I don't get the functionality I want in the other parts of Sage)

2. On a DVD menu pressing left/right causes the volume OSD to appear and adjust the volume even though global OSD is turned off in the SageMC options.

A request (and maybe i just don't know how to do this and its already in there): In the My Music screen, when you are viewing by Album, sorting by artist--you get big folders with album art which you can specify using the options command how many rows/columns you want displayed. I like this setup however I do not like that you have to scroll through all the albums one artist has--it could take a while. I believe the default stv works the same.

Now-if you only view by artist, you get one column of artists with small folders/coverarts. You can select each artist and up pops the larger folders to select the albums.

My request--is there any way to make it so when you view by artist--instead of just getting one column of small folders/coverarts-make it so that you get the larger ones that you can specify how many columns/rows you want showing? Then you can select the artist and the albums come up in the same fashion. Kind of a combination of the two methods.

wow-that probably wasn't very clear so let me know if you need any more info/if its possible/ or already exists.

I'm using 6.0.19 and just loaded 6.3.2a. I think it's great, but I have one problem. All of my dvds that I have stored in the video library now show that they were released in 1969. I imported my data from DVDProfiler. The info in collection.xml is correct.

Anyone have any ideas?

the same thing happened to me. I just took a second Sage restart to get the button back. The funny thing was that the button was there, I could access the shut-down menu, just couldn't see the button.

I think it was related to the fact that even though I had updated to 6.3.2a, I was still using a 6.3.2 xml file. I don't remember exactly when the problem appeared. Was it right after I started up Sage with it using a 6.3.2 xml with the 6.3.2a JARs, or when I changed the UI to the new 6.3.2 xml? But, anyways, in the end, it took settin up Sage to use the new 6.3.2a xml file and restarting Sage (don't remember if it was just the UI or the service too, probably just the UI). Then it running fine with the button and animation.

At the end of a recording the dialog box appears and gives options to delete, archive, watch again, etc....Is there a way to go back and watch the last part of the recording without having to start again?

I was able to reverse, but couldn't find a way to make the dialog box go away. Its rather trivial, but its happened to me a few times.

I have a couple shows that are showing the wrong image.

For example, NOVA has the image for the movie "Casanova"

How can I change these?
Repeat the IMDB lookup, press ESC (or Options command) on the Search Result Page, perform a manual search for the correct show, and save it again. The new picture won't show up until you restart the UI though...

Not sure what you mean by that... Use the movie channel list to define which favorites should get disabled ? Nope sorry, this has to be configured via the favorites settings

I then remembered that it never shows up because it is very rare for a show to be labeled as just animated. Most of the time its either "sitcom/animated" or some other standard.


I was wondering, was there ever a work around for this problem? A way to decide which is the main genre. If MC sees a "sitcom/animated" have it default to animated?

Never thought about that, it just worked. There is
* in the Detailed Setup - Customize an option "Focus follows mouse movement" which I got on YES.
* in the Detailed Setup - General an option "Show Mouse Icons" which I got on ENABLED.
If you can not use the mouse on your PC SageMC, maybe check above 2 settings ..

Work is progressing on the toolbar. I have added the volume controls and Dirk came up with a great solution to some very tricky focus issues. We finally got that all working last night. Dirk also offered to come up with some code to link the toolbar into all menus on import. This should help considerably.

Until that happens, I will manually link the toolbar into a few of the key menus and have a couple of brave alpha testers give it a test drive. I hope to be able to do that in the next few days.

Mainly I just wanted to let you know that I am still actively working on it and it is getting close. :)

Quick usability annoyance...

After watching a movie, OR hitting stop, the big windows appears with "Restart, Delete etc..."

There is no way to go back to the previous folder I was in, is there? Ie. I would like to hit the ol' back button but nothing happens. I have go to the main menu, navigate to the sub folders, ya-da-ya....

Go to Setup > SageMC > Main > Back on Delete "Enabled" will set Sage to go to last menu on delete, instead of Main Menu.

I'm a long time BTV user and I am trying out SageTV. Let me say how much I like your STV, tons of great options!

Here is my question: On the server I keep my imported videos in folders with a cover art and a .my file. When viewing the myVideos I see the thumbnails of cover art and titles. The problem is that when I view the same category on SageTV client I don't see cover art instead I see a tumbnails of the first frame of the video.

Can someone tell me what I am doing wrong?

If I add some music to a queue, listen to the whole thing, the very last track finishes playing then "sticks" to the screen. Hitting "stop" does nothing. The little mini-window in the bottom left corner has it listed as paused with the album art, but no matter what you do you cannot get rid of it. Also, if in screen saver mode (with album art) it will lock on that screen.

The only way to remedy the problem is to move to a previous track then hit stop a few times.

This seems limited to the last track in a queue.

Yeah, I know what you are taling about, I experienced that issue from time to time too. But every time I try to look into it I can't reproduce any more, and pressing 'Stop' clears the window again...

Anyway, I added code to automatically close the current mediafile after the last playlist item has finished, so hopefully this will fix it for good.

And since I know everyone is waiting for it (well, it was in fact my wife bugging me every day :D), I hacked up a quick-and-dirty YouTube integration, no guarantees that everything works, but we already watched some videos successfully ... :) If there are issues, it might take a while before I can get to fix them. A better port of the default STV changes (including the new layout with preview) will also follow at some later point.

To get access to YouTube, add the following to your menu xml file (either with a text editor, or by copying it to the windows clipboard and then selectin "Paste menu item from clipboard"):

Yes. Being seeing this on and off since Sage 5.0.4. I understood it was a bug in sage.

I've got used to pushing rewind when ever I start watching a show that is still recording.

Hi Flachbar. Thanks again for an excellent update! Now for another request. :D There is plugin for viewing web pages made by Nielm here: http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=23376
It works fine, even in SageMC if you make a dynamic menu link. However, it is supposed to also automatically make any clicked on RSS feeds open the page from within Sage instead of opening it in your default computer browser. Since we have the RSS integration already, I think something is not linked then in the SageMC STV for this to work, because clicking an RSS headline still opens it in the default browser rather than using the web page reading plugin. Can you check this, and see if you can fix it?

Also, FYI, if you install his plugin, to use both lynx and w3m for viewing pages, one OpenSSL package was missing to get a needed dll even though I followed Nielm's instuctions. I'll have to let him know on his thread about that.

Just got wife to cave and give SageMC another go. She likes it this time. But the "W" watched Icons on the imported videos that she got used to are gone. I looked in the SageMC settings and did not see anything there, when in folder view is it possible to get an Icon to show if the show has been watched?

One of the main reasons I wanted to switch to SageMC is that it's metadata support is awesome. I currently have .my files for all my video imports, which is ALOT of videos. and I was wondering if there is a way to import them into SageMC directly? I know sage reads the .my file when I pick the video but I want to be able to search for the information from the Search screen instead of opening every episode of some show to find what I am looking for.

Ack! How did I completely miss that plugin?!?!

My wife likes to read the stories linked by the RSS feeds all the time. I have Girder set up to control opera from the remote, but it is a kluge at best. This is the only thing keeping me from switching to FSE since sage doesn't restore properly afterward. I would be very interested in getting this working in SageMC. :thumb:

It works fine, even in SageMC if you make a dynamic menu link. However, it is supposed to also automatically make any clicked on RSS feeds open the page from within Sage instead of opening it in your default computer browser. Since we have the RSS integration already, I think something is not linked then in the SageMC STV for this to work, because clicking an RSS headline still opens it in the default browser rather than using the web page reading plugin. Can you check this, and see if you can fix it?

Also, FYI, if you install his plugin, to use both lynx and w3m for viewing pages, one OpenSSL package was missing to get a needed dll even though I followed Nielm's instuctions. I'll have to let him know on his thread about that.
This is certainly on the to-do list, but probably not that trivial. SageMC contains a specially tailored version of the RSS plugin code, and every time the plugin code gets updated I need to identify the changes and re-apply them in the SageMC STV. So most likely it's not just an easy and quick 'fix', but a bigger change. I would love to have that functionality myself, so you can be rest assured that it will be included at some point.
