I am a new user and want to congratulate the developers on a great addon to Sage. I have a couple of questions:

I added my movies to the video library and scanned in imdb information for each. On a few I accidently saved the imdb thumbnails. I keep folder.jpg locally and would rather use the ones I select. Is there a way to remove the imdb thumbnail I saved? Is there a way to disable imdb lookup of thumbnails?

I have added the .ape to the list of audio file types to add to the music library but these files are not being added when scanning the folders. I also have the same problem with .mkv in the video library. Is there anything that I am missing?

So I tried adding the YouTube menu to SageMC - I'm running SageMC 6.3.3. All the videos I try to play get the "unrecognized video format" error.

I saw a post where Opus4 responded to this issue by pointing to a post detailing how this was fixed in the default STV. Is there an easy fix for this in SageMC? I like having YouTube available on the TV, but I don't want to have to load the default STV just to use it!

btl.

Same here. And the problem exists for Google Video as well.

Is this a problem for anyone else or does online video playback in SageMC work for you?

I just noticed that I have this same problem now for YouTube video, but Google Video works fine for me. I'm using SageMC v6.3.3 with the latest SageTV version.

Possible bug: In series settings, it doesn't seem like the "Airtime" setting is holding after saving the series.

My wife wants to add a series to record Oprah. It comes on weekdays at 3pm, weekends at 11:30pm, and Thur-Fri at 1:00am. She only wants to record the 3pm showings.

I tired to set the "airtime" setting to 3pm. When I save it, then check it again, it's been reset to "any." I can't figure out a way to get the "3pm" setting to hold. As a temp partial workaround I did 5 separate series (one for each weekday), but since there are also overnight showings on Thur-Fri, we're still getting more recorded than we want...

Any other workarounds? Is this a bug?

I dont think SageMC has worked fully with google/youtube video for several versions.

There was s fix for the standard STV (http://forums.freytechnologies.com/forums/showthread.php?t=25406).

Quick comment. Could you update the Settings screen in the next version to include code from the Default STV? Like updating the copyright date and the additional verbosity in the System Information like you find in the Default STV? That'd be cool.

BTW, channel logos are looking good in this latest version.

Is there a manual for SageMC ? heh silly question i'm sure. I can NOT for the life of me figure out how to get to google/youtube in SageMC ? I have 6.3.3 installed ontop of 6.1.9SageTV. I look through all the main menu options like addons etc and can't find anything for Google/Youtube ? I'm sure its in some obvious place and I am just missing it but ..

You need to switch to Dynamic Menu and add it from there.

I must be missing something too! I also have SageMC 3.3 now and am trying to add YouTube (Google Video is on "My Menu" by default).

I go to Settings > SageMc > Menus
Dynamic Menus is enabled; the only other option there is configuration for the Weather menu
If I DISABLE dynamic menus, I'm given several options: rename My Menu and add up to 5 Custom Menus. Within these custom menus I can add a YouTube menu.
However, after I set-up my Custom Menus, if I leave Dynamic Menus disabled (which is how I'm able to configure the custom menus), and go back to the main screen, none of my custom options are there, including no My Menu
If I re-enable Dynamic Menus, all of my custom Menu options disappear, and on the main screen while My Menu returns, none of my customizations are there.

What am I missing? It seems like a bit of a runaround.

For #4, bring up the options menu on the Main Menu. There you can enable/disable the actual display of all the available menu items.

For #5, you have to save the menu file after making any changes to the dynamic menus or all changes will be lost. This is done from the Dynamic menus setup screen under File... > Save Menu File.

I uploaded version 6.3.3a, which should fix the YouTube video access. I also updated the parental control PIN dialog (it now gets triggered by the PC menu itself, so it will show up no matter from where you call it), and added an option to exclude access to Online Videos (PC restrictions screen).

I have searched through this thread, but I haven't found an answer to this:
I don't see any encoder # icons on the recording menus. There is a space for them, and they show as active in Studio, but nothing shows up. They are checked in Settings/SageMC/Icon Options for Recorded, Scheduled and Other.
I have verified that the images do exist in the right directory. I even stopped all SageTV services and recopied all the files from the full 6.3.2 ZIP, but still nothing. Could this be a Java issue (I am running 1.6. 0_01.b6)?

Thanks,
twieder

::update -- I turned on 'Notify on Errors' in Studio and got this:
Evaluation Error: Error in method reflection of sagemc_Global_getMediaFileEncoder of java.lang.reflect.InvocationTargetException
Expression: Encoder = sagemc_Global_getMediaFileEncoder(RecordingAiring)

::Update -- I removed everything from the JARs directory and put in a new set, and all is working now.

I am having the same trouble as wirecreative but I haven't been able to figure it out. For your response to #4, I found this options menu by right clicking with my mouse, all items were already enabled. For your response to #5, I don't know where to find this Save Menu File option under File? I see no option on the screen that says File, and right clicking produces nothing.

I posted earlier concerning a help guide to SageMC. I would certainly help me now.:)

#5 is not in THAT options menu. It is in the menu for the dynamic menus. Use the #4 options menu to enable Dynamic menus, then if you hit the options button a different menu will show up, here you can make changes to the Dynamic menu and save it.

With the latest Beta SageTV and SageMC, my video import library shows all 3000+ videos instead of the top-level folders that they're stored in. It did not do this before and if I use the Default STV, things look OK there. Can anyone confirm this is a problem with SageMC?

If I am not mistaken, there have been changes in the core that need to be made in SageMC regarding 'imported videos'. The new default STV has these changes implemented already. Give Flachbar some time, and I am sure he'll get it fixed.

http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=26025 gets into the code change. I changed that in Studio and it fixed it right up.

I just changed the one GetMediaTitle in Video Library Folder View to GetShowTitle. I left everything else alone, there may be some other broken functionality, but it works good enough for me as is.

I attached a couple pics for you to see if you want to fix it in Studio, and also, a virgin 6.3.3a SageMC_169.xml file with only that fixed, if you don't want to mess with studio or use the enhancements import.

I just uploaded 6.3.3b which fixes the issue in the video library. The core change also affected the photo library, which has also been fixed (it also required an update of the sagemc JAR).

Dirk, while I was messing with the GetShowFile issue, I started looking at doing some filtered menus.

Filtered Menus for Video and Music Library

It is now possible to have separate 'views' onto your music and video library, by pre-filtering the existing media files based on the import folder path. Basically, you can create one or more menu items for the 'My Videos' and 'My Music' menus and associate a specific import folder path with it. When you enter the library, only media files matching the import path will be displayed.

This filtering has been implemented with the 'doclet' functionality of the dynamic menus. Here is an example how to set it up:

1) Enter the following xml text into a text editor:

<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" standalone="no"?>
<!DOCTYPE sageMenu PUBLIC "-//NIELM//DTD SAGEMENU XML 1.3//EN" "http://www.sage-community.org/~nielm/nielm_modules/dynamic_menu/sagemenu_1_3.dtd">
<sageMenu version="1.3">
<internalScreenMenuItem
screen="My Music"
title="Classical Music">
<evalExpression>AddStaticContext("PathFilterExpr", "\\\\mediapc\\music\\Classic")</evalExpression>
<evalExpression>AddStaticContext("PathFilterExcludes", false)</evalExpression>
</internalScreenMenuItem>
</sageMenu>

2) Edit the 'PathFilterExpr' and change it to the import path you want to filter on. Note that this has to match the folder name in the import libraries configuration exactly (case-sensitive!) If 'PathFilterExcludes' is 'false', only media files imported from the path specified will be displayed. If it is 'true', all media files from this path will be *excluded* from the view. Set 'screen' to 'My Music' or 'Video Library Folder View", and set 'title' to the title for the menu item.

3) Copy the whole xml text into the windows clipboard

4) Bring up the dynamic menu options dialog and select 'New...', it should offer you a menu item 'Paste Menu Item from clipboard'.

Can you give me any more info on this, I messed with it some, to no avail. Setting it to false or true makes no difference, all videos are displayed.

Also, if I understand it correctly, you have to configure ALL the import folders in sage first, then this functionality will limit what videos are displayed. Not, that you can have "hidden" folders that are only configured through this doclet.

So, if I wanted to have hidden shared folders, first they'd have to be configured in Sage, then I'd have to reconfigure the default "My Videos" to not display the shared folders I want hidden. I'd then have to set up a second Video folder that has no hidden shares.

Also, can I have 1 doclet manage multiple shares that I want hidden?

edit: Basically I have two shares that I want to manage \\amd\sharedJ and \\amd\sharedM and in both of them, all files are stored in 'z-other'

I'm having an issue with auto compression. It had been working fine, then I lost the automatic conversion of favorites but could schedule it manually. Now if I set it to manually convert and converts the file, gets to 100% and then goes to 0% and moves to the next file (if in the cue).
If I look in the recording drive there's the original mpg file and a tmp file that can play. But it doesn't actually erase the mpg and rename the tmp to an avi file. Anyone have any suggestions? I reinstalled sageMC but it didn't help.

I noticed since version 6.5 sounds can be disabled. Can some kindly explain how to this? I don't see where to enable/disable it. THANX!

v6.5:
- full implementation of standard Sage conflict resolution
- sounds can now be disabled in the settings menu
- added evilpenguins extension for minimizing Sage after starting external programs from the 'Other Programs' screen
- added recording icons for the list "Other Showings"
- fixed missing 'Left_as_back' functionality in several menus.
- fixed remaining code where the movie category was hardcoded
- added options "Default Start/Stop Padding" for favorites
- added SortByDate/SortByOriginalDate to subgroup menu
- added 'Year' attribute to Favorite settings.
- added text entry and directory file listing to ease input of values in SageMC settings
- added an option to display the vertical 'current time' bar in the EPG
- 'Premieres' filter does now show also Season premieres
- added option to limit lookahead for premieres search
- extra info (on Info toggle) now also shows extra airing details (CC, Stereo, Premiere, etc) in addition to the external ShowID

That can be found in Setup>SageMC>Main Scroll down on the right to Play Sounds, set to disable. I tried it and had to restart the SageMC UI to get the sounds to truely disable, after I had set the option to disable.

(more than just two values) Press it once, skip 15 secs. Press again skip 30 secs. Not sure what you mean by, or how you are using, VCR style FWD/RWD, unless you are using an MVP (which you haven't mentioned before) or have nielm's multi-speed continuous FF/REW import. I think of VCR-style as being smooth FF, not the instantaneous jumps that Sage does. However, with a little fine tuning and getting used to it, the instant jumps work real good. What I did was to reduce my FF2/REW2 time to 120 seconds and left FF/REW at 10 seconds. When I come to a commercial, I hit FF2 once, and then FF a couple times if neccessary. If I go to far, I REW once or twice to get back into the last commercial a couple seconds. Other people mention setting REW to 5-7 seconds to better hit the end of the commercial.YOu'll get the hang of how much commercial time different programs/channels have. Commercials seem to run 120, 150, 180, or 240 seconds. Total time wasted, maybe 10 seconds. It's a lot faster/easier than having to watch the high-speed FF and hit play at the right time. And your option of having the 15, 30, 60 second jumps, I guess I'd have to try it and see how it worked.

Ok,

I think you might have loaded the old .stv file instead of the .xml file. Unfortunately once you load a .stv file, you won't see the .xml files anymore. To change it, close sage, and open the sage.properties file. A few lines down, it will list the STV file to load. If it says SageMC_169.stv, change it to SageMC_169.xml. Save and start up sage again. That should do it. I would delete the .stv file so that you don't accidentally select it again. HTH

1) How does SageMC decide when to schedule the compressions?

Works fine for me with Sage6.2.4 SageMC 6.3.3b and the JAR from nielm's IMDB import v6.5 released on 6-28-07. bammj's post was from before the latest IMDB JAR came out. Make sure you have the latest JAR and it shoud work.

Just did a complete reinstall of XP and the latest beta of Sage. I kept my wiz.bin but for some reason my imported videos lost their IMDB info. At first no results showed up for IMDB searches. After copying the JAR files from the latest IMDB import, I can now search again. However, when I save the IMDB data for an imported video file, it just saves the image, title and tag-line - no description. How do I get it to save the descriptions again?? Also, is there a better option than going into each of my 160 movies and doing an IMDB search/save? Thanks much.

ke6guj
07-08-2007, 09:21 PM
I started looking into doing .my or .properties files to save the IMDB info in. There is an import, http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=21629 (only for default UI) that will save to .my/.properties info files, and Sage then has support for those info files. Then, if you move your files, the info will still be available in Sage, whereas before, if you moved a file, the IMDB info would be lost. Now, Sage will read the info file in the new location, and repopulate the descriptions.

I figured I'd run the default UI for a bit to make all the .properties files for the video, and then switch back to SageMC. I haven't seen any batch way of doing a search/save.

I'd guess you might have borked something. I just tried doing a IMDB save in SageMC and it saves the description fine. It even has the cast info below the description. SOmething I see the .my/.properties plugin I was using in the defaultUI doesn't seem to do.

Hmmm... What version of Sage/SageMC are you running? Did you install the new JAR file from the latest IMDB search? Unless I do that the IMDB search is completely broken.

I have a big black square in the center of all my video files. I can still see all the standard tv recordings but all the videos regarless of type, show a big black square taking out only the center of the video while I am able to see the video playing in full detail on the sides.

Anyone seen this strange anomoly?
Just a guess, but do you have any closed captioning turned on?

HTH

Aloha,
Mike

Thank you MeInMaui! That worked!

Is there a way to change the size of the font for the clock in the info OSD. I changed the clock font size, but it only affects the main clock. Also is there a way to not need to to press select after manually typing a channel. EX: just type 6. Not 6 select. THANX!

I have more than enough tuners, and even when there is possible way for a conflict padding set up in SageMC never shows up for my recordings.

This was even more evident this week when I had the idea to combine my The Daily Show and Colbert Report recordings. I set the padding for the end of t The Daily Show to be 35 minutes, which should extend through The Report. However, I'm still getting a simple 30 minute recording (should now be 65 minutes).

Is there a setting somewhere that I'm missing to turn on padding?

Thanks.

If you have 'remove padding for back to back favorites' enabled and you still have the Colbert Report set as a favorite, then what you observed is exactly what should happen. Remove either condition and you should get your desired padding.

Aloha,
MikeI had already removed the Colbert Report from favorites. I'm not getting padding on any of my recordings. I never have (default padding is set to 2 minutes at start and end). It never really bugged me until now with this Daily Show/Colbert idea.

Thanks for the help. Any other ideas?

Sage 6.1.9.143
Java 1..6.0_01
SageMC 6.3.3b

When playing a DVD from a HD on an MVP the preview window is not resizing the video to fit. What you see is a "preview-window" sized section of the playing DVD. All settings set to "default".

Live TV and any recorded Sage TV are resized to fit in the window.

Been using Sage for about a week following the 15 day trial - I'm impressed!!!
MVP integration is very good, WAF has doubled since we started using the SageMC interface.

Still have some tinkering to do, however so far its working very well.

You're in the right forum, its just that nobody that has read the thread has an answer. It appears that real-life may have intruded on flachbar for a while, so you haven't been able to hear from the current SageMC author.

Have you tried to see if you get the same behavior using the default UI? That way you can see if it is a Sage issue, or a SageMC issue.

I've seen it before with the default STV but it was back with an earlier version of SageTV (4.1.3 maybe? or maybe is was with Matt's client from even earlier - don't remember). In any case I have not had that problem in a long time.

Anybody else not getting the correct folder heirarchy showing in the latest Beta (6.2.4)?

I can't be positive that the beta changed this, but it's the only change I've made recently that I can think of. I used to be able to go into my imported videos folder and see all of the sub-folders in each of my specified imported folders. Now all of the movies in those folders, regardless of folder heirarchy, just show up in the "top level" in SageMC.

Anyone else seeing this?

Yup, 6.2 changed some functionality in the API so that all the custom stvs and stvis have to be updated to match the new functionality.

flachbar released SageMC6.3.3b which is supposed to fix the problem. It did for me, but others have stated that it didn't fix the problem.

If that doesn't work for you, I posted a fixed file that fixed the folder issue, but apparantly there is still some picture viewing issues, which I dont' use, http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?p=229118&postcount=4278 . Does the latest version of SageMC let you use your mouse to click on the timeline of a recording to jump to a specific time?

If not, is there a way for SageMC to seek or jump to a specific time within a recording? For example, I would like to jump to minute 80 out of my 2 hour show. Rather than click Fast Forward an insane amount of times, I'd like to simply jump to that many minutes within the show. Any ideas?

:D Hi guys! I'm still alive, just to let you know. I started a new job in another state, and the last 2 months have just been really busy. Add on top of that a 4 month old, and basically, you know what you get...no SageTV time. In fact, I'm coming back this weekend, so I can hopefully clear out some much needed hard drive space...well, among visiting my most favorite two family members!

Anyway, hope you all have been having fun, and I look forward to getting back into chatting with you all. It could likely be another month or more, before I get a chance to even say the word Sage...

Really? I honestly think it is pretty good and that is the only issue that I've found with it. I've only imported about 32 DVDs so far, but I'm only importing them into one main directory (Root/DVD/VIDEO_TS) and have set that main directory as a video import directory.

What kind of problems are you experiencing?

Hi folks,

I just uploaded version 6.3.3c which contains some fixes and a few small enhancements:

A few fixes and enhancements:
fixed Description issue with DVDProfiler 3.0 import (thanks Kevin for finding it)
import DVDProfiler roles (if supported by SageTV)
added option to import DVDProfiler character roles into actor field (can be disabled in SageMC options)
show actors and roles for TV shows and imported Videos in Program Info
group single video files by folder in Video Library (yes, finally... :))
added option to create photo thumbnails in background
execute SageMC init code on STV load, restart of UI after STV update shouldn't be necessary any more in most cases (this change *might* affect other SageMC imports which add code to the 'ApplicationStarted' hook)
if "Show only new items" in RSS ticker is enabled, save state of already displayed news items across STV restarts so that they won't get displayed again
changed DOS-specific path separator in Theme selection code, which might fix issue on Linux (but I'm not able to confirm this since I don't run Linux)
allow physical deletion of DVD folder (if server property directory_deletion_of_dvds_enabled is set to true)To install, shut down the UI, extract all files contained in the zip file, and restart.

I am trying to add a custom menu to my MediaMVP using Sage MCE. I have the MVP running the MCE stv and it's works great, howevr on my other clients(htpc) I use customized menus. I normally right click and edit the menu item and insert something like the following:

----------------------------------
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" standalone="no"?>
<!DOCTYPE sageMenu PUBLIC "-//NIELM//DTD SAGEMENU XML 1.3//EN" "http://www.sage-community.org/~nielm/nielm_modules/dynamic_menu/sagemenu_1_3.dtd">
<sageMenu version="1.3">
<internalScreenMenuItem
screen="Video Library Folder View"
title="My Videos">
<evalExpression>AddStaticContext("PathFilterExpr", "\\\\NEWSERVER\\Divx_x")</evalExpression>
<evalExpression>AddStaticContext("PathFilterExcludes", true)</evalExpression>
</internalScreenMenuItem>
</sageMenu>

--------------------------------------------

Here's my problem. I can't access th MVP like a desktop and edit the menu. I can't seem to find in the SageTv folder on the server where I should insert this string so it will be picked up by the MVP.

Can someone point me in the right direction?

Hi all

Has anybody seen the prompt from Sage askign the viewer of live TV if the current channel can be chaged to allow an other recording?

I've seem occaisions when watching timeshifted recordings (its still recording and I'm wtaching several minutes behind live) when the tick sounds occurs and the onscreen Info appears at top and bottom of the screen. This never goes away unless I press the Info button.

This has just happened and after pressing stop at the end of the recording I find that the first few minutes of the next recording scheduled for that tuner is missing so I wonder if the channel change popup work on SageMC.

This is with SageTV 6.1.9.135 and SageMC 6.3.3a.

Just upgraded to 6.2.6RC Beta - and there is a feature in the default STV that is missing from SageMC.

There's an "auto-tune after timeout" feature now in the default STV - enabling it doesn't have any effect in SageMC. That would be a nice addition.

Also, once 6.2 goes official, will we get an updated "Detailed Setup" menu in SageMC that picks up the new fields that are now scattered throughout the default STV?

SageMC rocks and I love it. Keep up the good work.

Please Please Please :)

There are a few fields in detailed setup that are also missing now, like display aspect ratio. That had me chasing my tail for a few hours trying to figure out why I was seeing letterboxing on my 16:9 display.

I don't mind dropping out of sagemc to change detailed settings, though it's a pain. But it would be good if all the options were there or none were there, just so it's clear where you have to change things.

Thanks,
Mike

Ok, I am now running 6.2.6 RC with 6.3.3c of SageMC. Things generally work fine, but there is a big problem with how imported videos works.

I have my imported videos directory set to a directory called Videos. Inside Videos, there are 4 folders: DVDs, Internet, ReplayTV, and Archived Movies.

When in the Filesystem view, I used to get 4 folders and their subfolders displayed when selecting Videos in SageMC. Now, I get all of the contents of all of the folders showing up when in the Filesystem view, with no folder structure shown which is a big problem.

Is there some setting I've missed or this is a bug? I'd like the whole folder structure to be viewed like before.

Thanks,
Mike

I'm seeing the same thing after installing 6.3.3c....

As a temporary fix i'm using the groups view but it took forever to place all my movies in correct groups this way.

I've got a similar setup - "Videos" top level folder with 3 or 4 sub folders underneath it. I do NOT see this problem however.

The Videos folder isn't on the Sage Server - it's on my dedicated file printserver. Don't know if that makes a difference.....

OK-i figured out my problem with the imported videos not showing properly in the folder view. I think it can be attributed to either a corrupt .xml file or import. When i switched back to just the default sagemc.xml file everything worked fine. I was then able to re-import the imports i wanted and all is still working. I'm not sure if it was the imports that caused the problem during the upgrade but try switching back to the default sagemc and that should work.

AFAIK, the easist way is to run dirmon2, http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=16318 , and have it monitor your recording folders and have it trigger comskip, http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=16237 , or ShowAnalyzer, http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=12242 , for the commercials.

SageMC has a commercial skip processor, but IIRC, it is old code and dirmon2 is the better way to trigger the scanning. Then as long as the .txt or .edl file is there, SageMC will use them to skip the commercials.

The only thing that changed in 6.3.3c is that single videos will also be shown in a folder. This had been requested over and over again in the past, and there's no way to get the old behavior back...

Hi, I have a problem that's been bugging me for a while. I am pretty sure it's an issuie with sagemc because in the default stv it does not occur.

What's happening is it is cutting off the year of the original air date and the pm/am of the time the recording aired. (see screen shot in attached file) This happens on all recordings and every other field is fine and does not cut off anything. This happened after I upgraded to 6.3.3c. I was running sage software version 6.2.6. I upgraded to 6.2.7 and it did not fix the problem.

Any suggestions on how I can fix this?

In searching this thread back in May a couple of users indicated that comskip wasn't working on their MVP's using SageMC as the user interface. I just purchased an MVP and comskip isn't working on my MVP - but it does work on my main Sage server PC running SageMC. Did anyone figure out why comskip wasn't working? My symptoms are exactly like others have described - the video time line bar at the bottom of the screen on the MVP does not show the sections to be skipped - it shows a solid green bar. When I open the same show on the main server pc the comskip sections are shown and the PC skips them correctly.

Any opinions are greatly appreciated.

Have you checked the settings from your MVP interface to make sure that you have commercial skip enabeled ??

Remember that the MVP has it's own set of settings that are seperate from the ones on the client that runs on your server.

On the MVP when I go to settings on the main screen, the SageMC menu item is not there like it is on the server PC. Are the MVP settings kept in a properties file? Is so what is the name of it?

Ah Ha... That sounds like you need to set your MVP to use SageMC..

Go to Settings / Detailed Settings /Advanced & look at the "SageTV Application package" Setting..

I'm betting right now yours says SageTV3.xml
If so click on it & select SageMC_169.xml

Yoy will be asked if you want to load it, select yes

Then you should see the SageMC settings & be able to get comskip working.

Actually I am using the correct STV on the MVP. Both the MVP and the Sage server on the PC are using SageMC with the correct .xml file. I assume the properties file for the MVP is called SageClient.properties. When I scan this file for settings it says the following: commercial_auto_skip=true so I assume that is what needs to be enabled for comskip to work. I have attached the SageClient.properties file in hopes that someone more knowledgeable than me can make sure that it is setup correctly.

Thanks!

OK, Are you running Sage as a Service on your server?? If so, instead of having it log in as System, have it log in as an user (I have mine logging in as the default Admin) . Doing that resolved the comskip issues on my MVP.

Opus4

I assume the properties file for the MVP is called SageClient.properties.Just so you know: the MVP and Placeshifter properties files are stored in the "clients" subdirectory where SageTV is installed. I think the properties file starts with the MAC address or sometihng like that... if you have multiple remote clients, you may have to experiment to figure out which is which.

95Tbird - I am running it as a service and it was logged in as system. I changed it to the user admin and there was no change. It still doesn't comskip on the MVP.

Andy - I didn't realize there was a separate file. When I opened the MVP properties file there were only 37 entries or so. I noticed that it did not have the commercial_auto_skip=true statement that my sageclient.properties file had - so I added it to the MVP properties file and it still doesn't comskip. Does the MVP read this file when it turns on or is it the sage server that reads the file. In other words what do I need to do to get the MVP to see this change? Do I need to reboot the sage server PC(I didn't try that, as I ran out of time when I was home at lunch)?

I want to thank both of you for your assistance!!

Dan

P.S. - One other issue I am having on the MVP is the following: When I turn the MVP on with the remote and then navigate to MY TV the select Recordings then click on the show's name and then click play - all I hear is the sound from the show. I have waited as long as 3 minutes and no video comes up on the screen. However if I hit OK on the remote 5 times in a row or so the picture comes up on the TV. The above sequence only happens on the first show that I try to play after turning the MVP on. Do you have any idea what might be causing this? If you look back at my previous post I thought it had something to do with the little preview window in the lower left of the SageMC STV - but I don't think that is the case.

Again any insight would be appreciated.

Dan:

I'm not sure, but one difference that I noticed between your setup & mine is that I use UNC paths rather than drive letters... I wonder if this could be causing your comskip to have problems on your MVP. Try going into your setup & re-doing your directories as UNC & see if that helps.

As far as the sound & no video issue, I have never seen that before, But I would try unplugging the MVP from its power supply for 10 mins or so & then plugging it back in. That will make it reload the software. Worth a try...

Sorry if this has been covered, I've tried searching and haven't been able to pinpoint whether others are having this same problem with DVDP 2.4 or whether it's been noted before.

I had MC and DVDP 2.4 working well for months, then had to do a complete overhaul of my system due to other (freezing) issues. When I re-installed everything, I updated everything to the latest (a few weeks ago). So I'm on Sage 6.2.6.148 and SageMC 6.3.3c.

I'm still trying to use DVD Profiler 2.4 because the last I heard there were problems with 3.0. Here's my problem: Whenever I try to refresh my meta-data, or just update a single dvd with Profiler meta-data directly (using DVD Profiler import), I get the error "Collection.xml not found." Actually, that's not completely true: the very first dvd I try after a restart of the UI works fine every time. (so I know it's not an incorrect path or something like that). But it will only work for that first one. Every one after that gives me the Collection.xml error.

Should I be able to get this to work, or has an update been made to enable 3.0 to work that's somehow broken 2.4?

Thanks!

In the SageMC options for SageMC you need to define the path to where you export your collection.xml file. I store mine in the SageMC directory and export to there from DVD Profiler. And DVDProfiler 3.0 works very well with the latest SageMC. You just need to make sure to redefine the path where the images are stored. It has changed with 3.0 and ends up in C:\Documents and Settings\User\My Documents\DVD Profiler\Databases\Default\

I have defined the path. I've even changed it and re-defined it a few times to make sure, but I'm pretty confident that's not the problem because if I just re-start the UI, it will correctly import the Profiler information the first time I do it. But it only works correctly once, then it starts giving the collection.xml error (or sometimes it actually causes the UI to lose the connection to the server.

It looks like I need to upgrade to 3.0 anyway, as it looks like 2.4's not even letting you download new dvd profiles anymore. So I'm glad to hear that's working. I'll try that and see if it makes a difference, though I'm not sure why it would since all SageMC needs is to read the xml file right?

Hi Karl,

yes there is a simple comskip processor implemented in SageMC, which scans all recordings every 60 seconds and starts comskip on new files. But this is pretty old code, and I personally have never used it, so I don't even know if it still works. Also, bear in mind it is hardcoded to use "comskip" (so it's not possible to use SA), and there's no way to set any filtering.

Setting up Dirmon is a breeze, and a much more flexible solution.

Hi,

I having been using Sage for over 2 years and never really paid attention to SageMC until this week when I finally gave it a go- it is a heck of an STV (although I would almost call it a complete solution)!

Everything seems to be working well except for thumbnails from IMDB for imported videos. I can see thumbnails for TV shows, but I have yet to see one for any imported movies. The text is fine (cast, trivia, etc). I can go on the IMDB page and see the thumbnail there, but it won't download (don't see the thumbnails in the IMDBCache directory either).

Don't know if it helps, but I am using Sage 6.2.8 in server mode and SageMC 6.3.3c. I attached the log file too.

I would appreciate any help!

for "Top 100 New Videos" and "Popular Videos", and the "Movies" section is empty (without exception). Double checked default STV (6.2.7), same happens there...This is because there are some videos that are invalid for the RSS feed in some way, so the Google RSS result is blank. You'll have to reduce the top 100 from downloading all 100 (or 98) to something like 97 or less. The Movies feed probably does something similar, unless the movie type just isn't valid any more.

Thanks Andy, I'll check how this is done in the default STV...The default STV now loads all the online video link info via properties files in the OnlineVideos subdirectory & I just changed the top 100 to download only 97 videos via the 'num' argument of the URL. This makes it easier for us to update those links w/o having to distribute a new STV.

Looks like I have some work to do... :)

Do you remember with which STV version the code changed to use the property file, so I can diff the STVs and find the new code more easily?

I'll warn you, though: it wasn't just a few lines of code changes. There were quite a few things changed to handle the properties files, caching the results of each list for 5 minutes, adding the category bar, etc. Also, when the Main Menu and Screen Saver menus are entered, they check the cache to see if any of the online video info is out of date, so it can be freed.

As I am also a recent newbie, I'll help you out. The SageMC package simply allows for the correct usage/playback of comskip-generated files. You still need to actually run comskip (http://www.kaashoek.com/comskip/) on your recorded programs to generate the comskip data files.

I got information from this thread: Comskip Playback for Default STV (http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=21515). Scroll down to the section entitled "Additional Information".

I personally use Comskip Monitor (http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/downloads.php?do=file&id=138) and output .edl files (rather than .txt files) as shown in the thread above in the section entitled "Commercial Detection Output".

Hope this helps.

Thanks for looking into that Dirk. As reference, I've got the latest SageMC 6.33c I think and the latest Sage beta release (AFAIK- updated a week or two ago).

There's something I've always wished I could do and maybe its there and I just don't know how to do it, but if not consider it a feature request.

I'd like to have an easier way of clearing space on my recordings drive from within sage when things are getting tight. Right now I have to go through the list manually and click on the show, click delete and then confirm for everything I delete. I have always thought being able to delete a group would be useful instead of having to delete each show within a group individually. Thinking about this a little more, maybe having an option that displays something like a checkbox to mark shows for deletion like a webmail or online shopping cart would enable us to quickly select a bunch of old things that are no longer needed to free space quickly. I know sage will delete things as it needs space, but I've always got stuff that I will never watch or have no desire to keep and would rather I take charge, rather than let Sage decide which goes.

Thanks again for all your hard work. I finally got my HDHomerun working properly again and am all set for fall series to begin.

So one thing that bugs me about Sage (and quite possibly this is the only thing that bugs me!) is once you finish watching a recorded show, you get a big ol dialog box asking you what to do with the recording - delete, set watched, etc. This is fine, but what I don't like is that there is no way to backup and watch the last little bit of the recorded show - the dialog box just doesn't go away!

This happens to me frequently. I'll be watching a show, and want to see a preview of next weeks show. Right as "Next week on Flash Gordon..." starts to play, commercial skip kicks in, and takes me to the end of the recording. So the only way I have to get back to there is to start the show over, disable auto comm skip, and FF all the way to the end. I could also see the same scenario happening when skipping manually and going too far.

What would be nice (and what Tivo does I think) is once you reach the end, if you skip backwards with any of the positioning controls, the dialog box goes away.

Is this something that could be implemented in SageMC? Or is this an underlying piece of functionality in the Sage core?

Yeah, maybe I'll better leave that for some other time... :pI figure there are probably more interesting changes to look into for now. :)

But, just so you know: I think the old movies category might have been removed as an RSS feed option from Google Videos. (If it hasn't been removed, it sure does return a blank list quite consistently.) If you feel like trying something new, replace "type:movie" with "genre:movie_feature". We are considering using that in a future update.

Sage will automatically delete old files when space is needed. Also you can delete an entire group in SageMC by using the options menu when you have selected the group in the recording list.

The first part I know about, but don't necessarily trust it to make the best choices for me; The second item I didn't know about and I'll try it tonight when I start trying to make some extra space.

Thanks for the info.

I'm still a little confused - sorry, for the n00b questions.

I extracted Comskip into the SageTV folder and have the Comskip setting enabled in SageMC (didn't download any other related modules). Comskip seems to start, as I see it in the task manager, yet I do not see any results in the new recordings. What am I doing wrong?

Also, it seems as if Comskip is using a ridiculous amount of CPU resources. My processor (an AMD 6000+) averages about 6%-11% of use while using SageTV for any purpose. After installing Comskip, I see the CPU jumping to over 50% or so.

I upgraded to 6.2 last night and all is well so far except for one thing. Now when I go to My Videos no matter what combination I choose (File System, View By Folder) etc. It no longer keeps the files nested in their respective folders. IE: prior to the upgrade I had each video in it's own folder with it's own thumbnail. Some folders like "TV Shows" had multiple folder inside of them like "South Park" with files inside. Now all the files immediately show up when I go to My Videos and it is only like this inside of the SageMC theme. Everything works fine with the default theme. Any help is appreciated.

The comskip code in SageMC is old code and not recomended to be used. The preferred method is disable the "background commercial processing" and to use Dirmon, Dirmon2, or another directory monitor like comskip monitor to spot new recordings and run either comskip or showanalyzer to create commercial skip files. With "commercial auto skip" enabled, SageMC will use the comskip/showanalyzer .edl/.txt files to autoskip the commercials.

Hello all, I'm using Sage6.2.4 beta with SageMC 6.3.3b. Everything's working great except when I try to view the weather maps no image is being displayed.

Anyone have the maps working with SageMC 16X9 and the 6.2.4 beta? Example: The current U.S. temperatures.

I recently upgraded to 6.2.10 and SAGEMC 6.3.3.c from 6.1.9 and 6.3.3.a, and the weather map images no longer load. In the client log there is an error that goes something like this:

Hi-i'm having an album art issue. This is only present on this stv due to the way it is handling view by artist. Basically, if i view by artist, a lot of my artists are not showing any cover art. Weird thing is that if I select the artist and then see the albums--all the cover art is there. It initially became apparent when viewing an artist with one album. Viewing the list-no art. drill down into the album...art shows up. This also happens when an artist has multiple albums as well. Any thought.

Hi, Any reason why the guide colors doesnt work. This feature works fine with the default STV but not for the SageMC STV.

Hi jaminben,

guide coloring in SageMC is done exclusively by using color bar images. Here is the how-to from the download page (I admit it's not easy to find since it is only present on the older download page for SageTV <= 5.x) :

Configuration for colored categories in the guide:

If you want to color a specific show category differently in the EPG, drop two image files 'tvguide_button_light_xxx_middle.png' and 'tvguide_button_xxx_middle.png' into the SageMCE/Images directory (take the existing files as a template and change the color in your favorite image editor), where 'xxx' denotes the category name.

Example: if you want different colors for sports events, create two files 'tvguide_button_light_sports event_middle.png' and 'tvguide_button_sports event_middle.png' in the Image directory and restart SageTV. All shows with the category 'sports event" will use the new image files instead of the standard ones. If there is no specific image file for a category, it will use the standard SageMC ones.
If you don't want to create them on your own, there is an excellent color guide bar package (http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/downloads.php?do=file&id=90) from MeInMaui available for download.

I'm expanding the utlity of my SageTV server to include DVD movies. The movies are all stored on a NAS share. The server PC is a sole purpose Sage box running the 6.2 final release and the 6.3.3c release of SageMC. I have mediaMVP clients in three locations around the house.

I've got a few DVDs setup now. I have created a DVD Profiler database (3.1). I've set the DVD profilier path in SageMC options to the directory containing the cover art images in the profilier database. I've got the collection.xml setting to the appropriate file as well.

I can scan/import the profiler database. I get all text information but no cover art is imported. Is there something I'm missing?

Another question, I've set (and removed) the setting for offline DVD directory to be the same NAS share where the files are located. I've run the "Import Offline Video" option and saw that it created 1kb .mpg files for each of my videos but that seemed to now get duplicate entries for my videos in the "my videos" share. One entry will launch the move and the other when I click it will popup saying "insert DVD". What is the purpose of this "offline DVD" setting?

Thanks,

Keith

Well, the offline setting is for DVDs you do not have ripped to the harddrive, but which you still want to be appear in your video library (with coverart and info). For this purpose you catalog your DVDs in DVDProfiler and import them as "offline" videos, which will create those fake mpeg files (which are needed in order to add them to the SageTV database). When you want to watch one of those DVDs, you will of course have to insert the DVD physically into your DVD drive.

Yup, you set up a program (dirmon, dirmon2, or comskip monitor) to scan for new recordings. That program triggers comskip or showanalyzer to scan the recording for commercials and saves the info in a .edl or .txt file. SageMC will then read the .edl/.txt file and skip the commercials.

For now, switch to the default STV (SageTV3.xml) and make your change there. When you switch back to SageMC, the setting should stick.

Aloha,
Mike

Nope it does not stick .. it stay at 2 digits.

Let me try again.

Thank you

I just tried it 1 more time putting it at 4 digits in default then switch to SageMC and it still ignore that setting putting it back to 2 digits but if I switch back to default it will go back to 4 digit.

A bug in SageMC perhaps?

Sorry about the mis-information. I thought this was a property that controlled the core SageTV behavior, but it seems that it has to be implemented in the STV. I do not believe that SageMC has support built in for this yet as it is new for SageTV v6.2. I'm not sure if flachbar is planning to add this capability yet, so it sounds like a feature request is in order.

Again, sorry for speaking out of turn.

It not a problem at all.

I really like the look of SageMC and wasn't sure if he moved that setting in another location of the setup menu that why I asked to see if was something different I had to do to make it work or an file I had to edit in SageMC.

I was hoping to get it working becasue sat channels goes into the 4 digits range for their channel number and it annoying having to scroll all the way to to the 4 digits range when I can enter rounded up number and jump to it very quickly then do a light scrolling to select my show to watch.

I hope he would look into implementing it. I am using 6.2.10

"Error: The requested video was not found on the server"

Youtube works fine in default SageTV 6.2.10

Did that, stopped the service, changed the setting & then re started... Does it need a restart (ie power down) of the MVP ??:bang:

I had the same problem with my MVP. You need to go into "C:\Program Files\SageTV\SageTV\clients\" and edit the "028a838b28d0.properties" file there (or whatever the heck your file is named). I had to add the "ui/disable_native_image_loader=true" property since there wasn't one there already. Just search for "ui/base_font_name=..." and add the new property after that (or anywhere since I don't think the order of the properties is important).

As usual, make sure the server and MediaMVP are shut down before editing the file. Then restart everything. I'm not sure if you have to completely reboot the MVP, but I did just to be on the safe side.

This is also the purpose of the "Hardware Setup" button in SageMC. (The button at the top of the Setup page) Using this loads the STV for the default STV. Now change the settings most recently added to Sage but not available from the SageMC page. When you're done switch back to the SageMC STV.

I believe you were correct to being with.

I think my SageTV got corrupted or broken somehow because when I reinstalled SageTV again it took the update from default into SageMC this time.

Hi,
Is it possible to have the channel icons next to the channel number in the epg guide?
When viewing the default STV the icons appear next to the channel listing for each channel but not in SageMC, I've looked for a setting but havent found anything yet.

Hi Justin,

it could be this (http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?p=229176&postcount=4279) issue. Please try the lastest SageMC version and let me know if the problem goes away.

Sorry for asking (go easy on me... I'm a noobie here), but can someone point me to more information about SageMC? The wiki page doesn't load... and I don't want to just load this without having any idea what it does. I've ready through many pages... but 225 is a bit too many... especially without pictures.

Also, can you tell me - will this let me easily sort recordings into Mine, Wifes, Both, and Kids? If not, is there something else you can recommend?

Thanks

Try reading this: SageMC 6x9 Notification Thread (http://forums.sage.tv/forums/showthread.php?t=21435&highlight=sagemc)

Or, better yet, take a look here at Flachbar's download page (http://forums.sage.tv/forums/downloads.php?do=file&id=141), it has LOTS of pretty pictures.

Oh, and what it does... it's hard to describe. It's like, like watching the angels of heaven sing.

SageMC 6.3.4 is now available :)

This is a major new release with a lot of new features and internal changes. The version number really should have been 6.4 (or even 7.0), but I decided to stick with 6.3.x to be able to eventually get in sync with the main SageTV version numbers.

One word of caution first: since there are so many internal changes, I expect almost every other import or theme to break with this new version. So if you are really dependent on your favorite import, I would recommend to hold off until the plugins have been updated. As far as I know a lot of the devs are already working on that.

So, now to the new stuff. The major features are:

New theme framework

The existing theme functionality has been completely re-written, it uses now the same scheme as the default STV: all themes are located in a "Themes" directory, with a default Theme directory "Default" (the MCE one). The images will be loaded directly from those theme directories, and the new theme is ready to use right away, without STV restart. As in the default STV, each theme can contain a theme.properties file in which you can specify additional properties (for now I only implemented the scaling insets for the selection bar graphics, and a theme specific OptionsMenu color). The theme logic first searches the current theme and then the default theme directory for an image file, so in order to create a custom theme you only need to have those graphics in place which are different.

The "Default" theme contains all the images that are currently referenced in the STV, so if you want to create a custom theme then you can use this file list as a reference. A few image files have been renamed/moved, there is a "changes.txt" in the default folder if you need details.

The dev download package includes the new "Theme" folder with the updated "Default" theme, and the full package contains all standard SageMC themes, updated to the new file structure. All the old "Images" folders are not used any more and can be deleted.

Support for new Core Animations

You can enable the new core animations in the SageMC animation settings page. Try it out, it's pretty cool, even if you are not a fan of animations. Menu selection and table animations have been implemented for all menus except the EPG, which might get added later.

Detailed Setup

The SageMC-specific Detailed Setup menu has been removed, the "Detailed Setup" button now automatically loads a slightly modified version of the default STV (SageTV3-sagemc.stv) and switches automatically to the setup menu screen. Once you are finished with the settings, you find a button "Back to SageMC" which will take you back to the previously loaded SageMC STV.

Email

Many thanks to koelec who allowed me to use his 'email checker' code and integrate this into SageMC. I added functionality for downloading the whole message text in addition to the mail header, and you can also define multiple "account holders" to group accounts. See the "mailaccounts.xml" configuration file for details.

Webtext RSS reader

I integrated Niel's webtext plugin which allows you to read RSS items from within SageMC. Note that you have to set up the required cygwin installation if you want to use this, see Niel's plugin documentation on the wiki (http://tools.assembla.com/sageplugins/wiki/NielmModuleWebText) for more information.

New customizeable MiniGuide

I added a new version of the MiniGuide which has a fixed height (instead of changing it's height depending on the amount of displayed show info). The new guide can be customized in many ways, just bring up the 'Options' menu while the Mini Guide is displayed. If you prefer the old version, there's a button in the options menu to switch back.

Reorganized SageMC Settings

I reorganized the SageMC Settings menu to group the various options logically together, so now you might be able to find a specific setting you are looking for ;) Many thanks to Mike for doing the hard work and providing the layout to me

Integration of SageMC enhancements

Twieder provided great features in his Enhancement plugin, and I included some of them in this new version

scrollbars for tables / lists
setting to hide list numbers
highlight current recording, specify color / alpha
setting for opacity of OSD background
folder icon for grouped recordings

Other enhancements:

support for option "channel change on timeout" and "custom max channel"
picture library now displays correct picture counts
display channel logos in left side of guide
added configuration for number of list rows in 'By Song' view
added list view for albums (set column number to 1)
added setting to enable/disable display of single video files in folders
added setting to use full folder.jpg cover for folders in Video Library
allow both title and keyword criteria for favorites, can be edited in favorite settings
added feature to add title/keyword favorite from IMDB search
made 'Series Info' button accessible from Program Info menu
channel up/down jumps +/- 10 channels in MiniGuide
channel entry in MiniGuide now operates MiniGuide instead of switching channel
allow rewind from Stop dialog
added option for reverse order in EPG
added option to specify text for 'More'

Bugfixes

fixed airing time setting for favorites
fixed cut-off of original airing date
fixed search dialog

Installation (as usual):

- shut down the UI
- unzip *all* files in the download file
- restart the UI
- load the new STV

The dev package (includes only new STV, JARs, and Default theme) and the full installation package are available for download here:

SageMC 6.3.4 update (http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/downloads.php?do=file&id=139)
SageMC 6.3.4 full install (http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/downloads.php?do=file&id=141)

Note: the JAR files included in this version will only work with Java 1.6. If you are still using 1.4, you can try the following: remove the JAR files sagemc.jar, mailcheck.jar, and df_sageutils.jar from the JARs directory and replace them with the files found in SageMC-JARs-java14.zip. I haven't tested this yet with 1.4, so if you run into problems then let me know (or upgrade to Java 1.6 which I would strongly recommend anyway).

Here are a few pictures which show some of the new features:

Okay, first observations: I see no difference in the 'my videos' display option 'show folder for single video' enabled or disabled. This is when using the file system and folder view. It seems to work when using groups or genres views (neither of which I use).

When in 'my videos' sage comes to a crawl and eventually stops responding. I need to kill it from the task manager. I do not see this behavior when using the default stv.

Pressing the 'play' command on a movie in the 'my videos' screen does not play the movies as it does with a recording in the 'my tv' section. I have to 'select' the movie then choose play from the menu on the next screen.

For reference; my movies are all stored in E:\Movies. Each within their own folder with multiple .jpegs of poster art.

Woot.

Thanks for all of the effort Dirk and team. This is a superb release. Well done.

The only issue that I've noticed so far is that if that if I enable mce style menus the menu bar appears on top of the menu text. This is easily worked around though I do prefer to use the mce style on my main pvr (see attached image).

Time for me to go play with the email options...

Thanks again.

I might have discovered what is causing the slowdown in the 'my videos' screen. For some reason all my videos are constantly being put into the queue. And in group view my covers are appearing then disappering when the selection is moved over them. SageTV's memory usage spikes around 250 megs and its vm also spikes a bit higher around 250 megs, then Sage just quits responding.

Any way to change the hover icon for the weather bar? I know I had a mod that lat me do it with the last version, I thought it might have gotten incorporated into this build.

Hey Dirk, thanks for the new release - I'm loving it.

I've got one question though.

All the icons in this version of SMC are tiny on my 1080i screen (1920x1080 res). All the recording, conflict, first run icons, etc. Is there anyway to make them bigger? I can hardly make them out!

Thanks!

I've had several issues getting the Liquid Theme to work with the new version of SageTV.

First off was the background. Liquid Theme comes with a .png background, and SageMC is looking for a .jpg. Opened the file in paint, and saved it as a .jpg, now it works.

None of the liquid menu headings are working. I'm not sure what the problem is here yet. These are the Television_logo, Settings_logo, etc graphics. I do not see these in the Default theme folder. It looks like the default theme just uses enlarged fonts.

All of the selection bars have "pinched" ends except on the main menu.

Another issue is that I can't seem to find the option to change the background color of the options menu. Blue does not work so well with my theme setup. :)

In both of your downloads you have the "Themes" directory in the SageMC directory. This didn't work for me. I had to copy the themes contained within that folder to where the default "Themes" directory is. That path is C:\Program Files\SageTV\SageTV\STVs\SageTV3\Themes. From your zip yours is in the C:\Program Files\SageTV\SageTV\STVs\SageTV3\SageMCE\Themes directory. FYI. (Unless I'm understanding this wrong.)

Hmm, works fine for me... What do you mean with "it seems to work in genre or group view" ? This setting makes only sense in the file system view, since videos are displayed independent of their folder structure in the other two views anyways...

Pressing the 'play' command on a movie in the 'my videos' screen does not play the movies as it does with a recording in the 'my tv' section. I have to 'select' the movie then choose play from the menu on the next screen.

Darn I thought I figured out that there will be at most 7 buttons even with the "Series Info", but guess I was wrong... I will revert this change
