I have shared the "DVD Profiler" that is in My Documents (DVD Profiler is on another computer, not the HTPC), and made sure that the path for DVD Profiler was set to \\\\StudyPC\\DVD Profiler, but it doesn't bring up new images for DVD's that I've added. Do I have to dive deeper into that directory for SageMC to know where to get the images?
For the "DVD Profiler Path" use "DVD Profiler\Databases\Default" as your folder.

I just started exploring RSS feeds and I'm a little confused about the webtext feature. So far I've had no luck getting any feed to display using webtext. I get a "Error: page failed to load" in both Lynx and W3m. I was easily able to get the External browser to work but that won't due for my Extender. Is there something else I'm supposed to do?

Is there a way to remove the video preview window when looking at the TV Guide?
I prefer to keep the core animations turned on when using SAGE.. but they're terribly slow when I am viewing the TVGuide + a small video preview on an HD station.
Thanks so much!

I've been missing a feature I used to have with Beyond Media's DVD Library. In that program I could export a list of all videos and DVDs to a csv file in the following formats:
Alpha sort by name
Alpha sort by name with path
Sort by directory, then alpha by name.It was very useful especially when you have a large library spread over more than one drive. I noticed this was something another person asked for (http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=30788) in the standard STV and thought I'd mention it as a feature request for SageMC. Does this sound like something that would be possible down the road in SageMC?

Is there currently a way to view an offline DVD library? For example.. I have a large amount of DVDs, but I definitely don't have the space to store them all on HD's.
It would be great if I could go to a special section (offline section) and browses DVDS.. Upon selecting one it could give me the # of the DVD so I could easily pull it from my library.
Maybe I'm dreaming..

You can use DVD Profiler to add this functionality. Basically, you just add DVDs to your library, then when you go into My Video's, hit Options, select Meta Data Options, then Import Offline DVDProfiler Videos. SageMC then generates a 0kb mpg file with the title of that movie, and stores the meta-data for that title. The nice feature, is you can turn on the online/offline icon, then you'll know if it's on the hard drive or not.
I'm not sure if the disc number thing was ever added to this feature.
Also, you have to create an offline directory, IIRC, and there is a setting within SageMC options, Path, that tells SageMC where that is.

Is anyone using SageMC 6.3.7 with the beta 6.3.9 release of SageTV? We're having some problems with a client that's regularly going in to spinning pinwheel-locked up mode upon playing shows and I'm trying to determine if it's SageMC, 6.3.9 or maybe some other thing. It may be only happening after we play a DVD on the machine first.
Since I'm out of town I won't be able to diagnose anything until I get back. But I'm getting negative reports from back home. ;)
is there a keyboard shortcut to toggle fullscreen and window mode? when i remote into my sagebox, i often get a black screen if sage is running fullscreen (which it almost always is)

Not sure what you mean by this. I have dvd profiler on another computer, do I just point to the file. Can I export a file to computer with sage on it?

I will be doing this soon and location would be a big issuse for me too. I thinking maybe adding location to the title might display it. If that don't work maybe editing each pic with the location might work. Only thing would have to run a batch file or something because ther are too many in my collection.

Hi,
I am running Sage 6.3.9, Java 1.6.04, and SageMC 6.3.7. I am not sure when the problem started but I notice the weather won't update after Sage is launched. It will get an initial reading after starting Sage, but after that the "current" weather is always that day and time, so not updates are happening. Is anyone else seeing this?

The playlist position is automatically bookmarked, so if you stop the playlist and return to it later it will start with the last song played. You can also link this playlist (or any other) to a main menu item - add a similar section to your dynamic main menu file after you created the shuffle playlist:
<internalScreenMenuItem icon="D:\Video\SageTV Client\SageTV\STVs\SageTV3\SageMCE\Themes\MyTheme\MenuIcons\hover_my music2.png" screen="Now Playing" title="Random Music">
<evalExpression>AddStaticContext("PlayPlaylist", true)</evalExpression>
<evalExpression>AddStaticContext("PlaylistName", "SAGEMC_SHUFFLE")</evalExpression>
</internalScreenMenuItem>
You can reset the bookmark in the Playlist detail screen - focus on any of the left menu buttons and bring up the Options menu. You can regenerate the playlist as often as you like, and also delete it. Note that if you enter the Music Library through a main menu item in which you have a filter set, the shuffle playlist will only get generated for the songs that match the filter.
For other regular playlists (music and video), you can enable bookmarks in the SageMC / Enhancements option menu.
Update instructions:

Hi Guys, thanks for the update! Im very thankful for the mouse support! Im currently in a different country; so I cant try this release just yet; but Im just curious if the clone/export menu issue was fixed with this release. This is the problem thats affecting some people who are using the SageTV server as their primary machine (people who use sageTVservice and SageTV.exe). I didnt see any mention of it in the release notes.
I appreciate your time and effort Dirk and Mike!

On my HD Extender it keeps telling me that my versions don't match after I load the 6.3.7a (although both STV version & JAR version say 6.3.7a, and I've even gone so far as to restart Sage). The layout system has gone bonkers on me. When I loaded the new stv my menus no longer looked the same. The recording and upcoming recording bars were moved off the bottom of the screen. Text in my icon menus was very small. The weather bar got very large.
When I try to snap an item to the bottom left or right sof the screen it actually goes off screen. Cloning the menu panel is not fully working. For example the text size is not carrying over, as well as many of the other various options.
With fixed focus mode I can not edit each icon independently. Chaging the scale or position of any one of them changes them all.
Also cloning the main menu to the dynamic submenus and vice versa is not working.
FYI, I am running SageTV in service mode.
EDIT:
Crap, somehow I got an old version of the gkusnick.sagetv.jar again. I wonder where I keep picking this up? I replaced it with the December version, but unlike last time, it didn't fix anything.

Hi Karl,
Sorry for the difficulties. Some of the things you mentioned are unavoidable consequences of some of the additions/changes that were made in this release. Here is a quick run down.
The layout system has gone bonkers on me. When I loaded the new stv my menus no longer looked the same. The recording and upcoming recording bars were moved off the bottom of the screen. Text in my icon menus was very small. The weather bar got very large.
The recording bars will be shifted down a bit. It was necessary to change the position reference so they don't move around when you increase the number of displayed items. Not sure about the weather bar. Did the object get large or did the contents get larger? Again some of the internal sizes may have changed when I added the new customizations. Can you reduce the size to compensate?
When I try to snap an item to the bottom left or right sof the screen it actually goes off screen. Cloning the menu panel is not fully working. For example the text size is not carrying over, as well as many of the other various options.
The recording bars are now referenced to the top of the object, so they will go offscreen when you snap to the bottom. Sorry this was unavoidable. Could you describe the cloning problems?
With fixed focus mode I can not edit each icon independently. Chaging the scale or position of any one of them changes them all.
There are two different editing items now. The first should still behave the same, allowing editing of each icon's size, position, and opacity. The new edit item allows editing of the icon contents. This will act on either all icons or allow separate editing of the focused icon, depending on your setting. Is it possible you are in the wrong editor for what it is you want to do?
Also cloning the main menu to the dynamic submenus and vice versa is not working.
FYI, I am running SageTV in service mode.
I'll check this as soon as I can.
Aloha,
Mike

Mike & Dirk :
Once Again Fantastic work guys!!
Thought you would want to know about this bug tho...
It appears that the new editing system for the freeform layout will not allow you to move the Icons anywhere past the center of the screen to the left.
I can force them over there if I go into the properties file & enter the appropriate coordianates...
Example
sagemc/MainMenu/FixedFocusIconMenu/FreeForm/Location2/xOffset=-0.440
sagemc/MainMenu/FixedFocusIconMenu/FreeForm/Location2/yOffset=0.0
But if I try to move one over there using the editor, it refuses to go into the negative x range.

Quick question (I think). I'm writing another blog post - this time about commercial detection and how to set it up in SageTV as well as SageMC. My question is this, when setting up commercial detection for SageMC do you need the following:
Commercial Detection Program: ComSkip or ShowAnalyzer
File Monitor: DirMon or ComSkip MonitorAm I correct that you need these two things with SageMC, but don't need the ComSkip Playback STVI like you do with the standard STV?
Another question is this, do people use DirMon with ComSkip or only ComSkip Monitor with ComSkip?
Thanks,
EDIT: I should note that I did set all of this up for myself not too long ago, but I didn't take the best notes and I tried so many different things through the STV and then SageMC that I can't remember what combinations were right or not for SageMC now. Bad memory and too much trial and error while playing around left me with a bit of confusion.....

You are correct. Comskip playback support is built in to SageMC (both .txt and .edl). FYI, edl is the preferred format. It is much more accurate.
Dirmon can be used with comskip. It is a matter of preference. I use Dirmon2 + SA.

The fact that it is designed for a remote explains why the user interface seems clumsy. More than 1/2 the time, I use sage from my computer, so I'll spend some time at the link above :).
The grouped + ordered by original air date I found in the Malore menu extensions that you enable with the "secret" code. SO, the work may already be done :).
I've been using the new comskip interface that uses edl and it is much more accurate (why I was wondering).
Do you know if there's any problem switching between the 2 user interfaces by just switching .xml files in the advanced menu? (Between my old one and SageMC_169.xml?) Until I decide whether I really want to switch?

You should not be losing the metadata on a rescan. It should be stored and kept in the wiz.bin. Make sure the paths are correct for your DVD Profiler. The latest version store that data in the user's My Documents directory and you need to define that as the path. Make sure you're running as a user that has write permissions to your Sage installation.

Every time I rescan my video directories I lose the metadata that I imported from dvdprofiler. I have to use the dvd profiler refresh button to get them back. Does this happen to others?
-Mike
P.S. I've checked the logs with no obvious solution
Some more data with the problem. DVD profiler auto import works just fine the first time a movie is imported. i.e. there is no information already in the wiz.bin. In addition dvd profiler import works when I manually import for each movie, it also works when I use the DVD profiler refresh button. Unfortunately, every time I update the meta-data for a movie it updates the time stamp on the folder.jpg file when it copies the cover art over. With the updated timestamp the system thinks the movie has updated and will re-import the video at the next rescan. I can see this behavior clearly documented in the log files. This is the real snag, however, the meta-data for the movie will get lost in the re-scan. To get the meta-data back I must re-import the DVD profiler information, which in turn updates the timestamp on the folder.jpg, which in turn causes the movie to get re-imported at the next library scan, which causes the meta-data to get dropped. It's a vicious cycle :). This problem for me is not specific to dvd profiler import, it also happens with IMDB import. Fortunately, I can get around it with IMDB import because it gives me the option to only save information and not the image which breaks the re-scan/re-import cycle.

The reason I went to SageMC was to get this SageMC_Weathermaps_1a.xml because with it I can add multiple places.
Thanks

In SageMC go to View Maps amd press Options or right-click with your mouse. You can define any map for any place you want so you could have each map represent a different place. All you need is the link for that map.

Has anyone successfully setup the @email in SageMC?
I have a hotmail account ( www.hotmail.com) and a account on pop-server.tampabay.rr.com, and if you have yours working please post your mailaccounts.xml.
Just change you real password, and email address with junk info.

Hotmail isn't going to work. It needs to be a pop3. The mailaccounts is pretty self explanatory and putting my credentials in there won't be explaining much. What isn't working for you?

I am using the latest 6.3.7a version and love it. I noticed though that the IMDB auto lookup doesn't seem to be working as it did before. In previous versions, I would open a TV recording and it would download the cover art. Now with IMDB auto lookup set to All (as it was before), does not download the cover art for any of my TV shows or movies.
Any idea on how to fix this?
Don't know but I'm seeing this also. It might be IMDB is broken and needs to be updated for its scraping.

Are you guys sure that you have that setting set to "All' ? I just tested it again, and it works flawlessly for me. If I set it to "All", it will try to download the pic for all shows, if I set it to "Movies" it will only download for shows with category Movie.

Yeah, that was already fixed for 6.3.7 (I posted an updated JAR file in the forum), but it was never included in the download packages. The current downloads already contain this fix.

Another update. I removed my wiz.bin and started fresh to see if something in the database was corrupted. After import it pulled all the dvd profiler information as I would expect. On the subsequent re-scan all the meta-data was lost. Not an issue with a corrupted wiz.bin. Now to start playing with settings in sage.properties to see if something there is affecting this behavior.

More digging. Apparently the update of the folder.jpg timestamp is not the culprit. I attempted to disable the updating of the folder.jpg by specifying an invalid path for the location of the images. It worked in that my next dvd profiler import did not update the timestamps of the folder.jpg files, but the next re-scan still caused the video to be re-imported causing my meta-data to be lost. It must be something the dvd profiler import does that causes the video to be marked in such a way that it will re-import at the next re-scan.

While you're looking at it, could you take a quick look at the automatic compressions?
I have two minor problems:
1. I use MCE style menus with the menu spacer enabled. When it first loads, the space is present. I have created a sub-menu where I access the settings, video conversions and parental control. When I access this sub-menu, and then come back to the main menu, but space is gone. It will not come back until I restart or go into the dynamic menu through main menu options, disable and re-enable the space, and save. It will not come back if I go into the customize main menu-text-customize and disable/reinable here.
2. I still use TheaterTek to play DVDs. I have re-enabled using this external program, but when I launch a movie, TT launches and immediately closes. This was working in 6.3.6b. Also, the command script has not changed and will launch TT if I open it.
Thanks again for the hard work.

Well I finally have the solution. I decided to whip out Studio and play around and found some syntax issues in the sagemc STV which is causing the issue. Specifically, in the AddShow method in the Library Import View section of the STV I discovered that Language was miss-spelled as Lanugage. When I corrected this error my problem went away. In addition, the way Language was getting pulled from the collection.xml was wrong. I copied the entry over from the If View Mode section of "Library Import View" and I am now correctly storing the meta-data and it actually sticks. Would you guys be interested in me sending you the updated xml so you can see the changes?

edit: nevermind, even though language was spelled wrong, it doesn't seem to be the cause of my problems. Back to the drawing board

I'm starting to get suspicious of how the data is getting passed to the "Library Import View". When you use IMDB or edit the metadata directly it uses the StaticContext command on Airing and then that airing is what gets associated with the new Show object that gets created. The DVD profiler, however, pushes Airing on a MediaFiles variable that then gets the StaticContext. I am suspicious of a pass by value vs pass by reference issue. I know I'm grasping at straws, but I'll have to run some more experiments tonight.

Somebody please tell me if I've been doing too much crack...
I keep reading that animated weather maps are not supported and that it is not a limitation of SageMC, but of SageTV. I could swear that a year ago, prior to a catastrophic failure that initiated a complete hardware and software rebuild, I had them. I had moving satellite, infrared, and radar images that were animated gif files. I remember having to edit a bit of the properties file to configure the file locations, but that was all.

Hi Mike,
didn't you say that you see the same issue with IMDB meta data ? If so, I don't think that the code differences you mentioned would play any role in this...
Since you're still running 6.3.5 - are you daring enough to upgrade to 6.3.9 RC ? I had to make some changes in the AddShow() calls (see Andy's info here (http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=30687)) due to changes in the 6.3.9 core. If not no problem, then I can send you a custom 6.3.7a STV in which I change these calls back to the old way. This will determine if it's a version problem.
Or is anyone running SageTV version < 6.3.9 and is not seeing this problem ?

IMDB only has the issue when I save the image, just saving the description does not cause the file to be re-imported at the next re-scan. DVD profiler import, however, does cause the file to be re-imported and the meta-data lost. Unfortunately I didn't have time last night to track this issue down further. I got tied up with a new video card and enabling VRM9. I'll be posting my experiences with this on the SageTV software forum. I've noticed multiple AddShow calls in the STV and the only once that seems to cause the issue of the re-import is the AddShow in the DVD profiler import. In addition, I don't think it's the AddShow that is problematic, but the SetMediaFileShow. To summarize, the SetMediaFileShow when you use IMDB and when you use Edit Meta-data directly does not flag the show in such a way that cause the re-import and the next scan. Just the SetMediaFileShow in DVD profiler import seems to cause it.
-Mike
edit: I am running in service mode right now. I haven't tried running the other way yet. May be another potential source of problem.

Well, I made some specific changes for Evilpenguin's plugin on his request in 6.3.7a. So if it works in 6.3.7 but not 6.3.7a, it could very well be that those changes were meant for the next version of his plugin.

Hi skyeclad,
no you are right, if you use the UI on your server you don't have a client log file. The thing is that your log file doesn't contain any indication of UI activity, that's why I assumed you must be running the UI somewhere else. So you're definitely starting the UI on your server machine ?

Today is the first chance I had to try the 6.3.7a update. I have only tried a couple of things which was most important to me; and, both didnt work as I expected.
1) Mouse support: Isn't the highlight bar suppose to follow where the mouse goes on the menu items... just like the rest of the selectable objects on the screen? I move my mouse onto a menu item; and nothing happens. However, if I do click it, it does take me to to the menu. I have tried reinstalling the 6.3.7a update a couple of times and still get the same result.
2) Main Menu clone / Submenu clone features still dont work at all. If I am in a submenu that I've made, and select "Clone Main menu", nothing happens. This has never worked for me. It would be so nice if I could use this feature. Edit: It looks like kricker from this forum has the same issue as me. I have mentioned about this specific problem as far back as after the jar update that was supposed to fix this.
Here are some minor things I've noticed:
a) Some menu icon text isn't centered anymore. See attached pictures. This issue is much more pronounced when sageTV is switched to window mode instead of full screen mode. The text is pushed to the left. Edit: I just added a picture of what it looks like when sageTV is in window mode.
b) Full sageMC 6.3.7a installer has the same issue as the initial release of the update version... I get a version mismatch error message. I had to use the update instead of the full version for that message not to show.
c) Also, it appears that the new recent/upcoming objects aren't alpha-blended anymore. I didn't see any options to change/enable/disable this.
I appreciate any help you can provide.
Thanks,
Michael

Not sure if this is an issue in the STV or not, but I will start here. On an HD Extender, I was trying to add a new sub-menu item, and in the part where you give the new menu item a name, I got the text entry popup. I pressed the Guide button to go from CAPS to non-CAPS, and on the screen the letters below each number key would change correctly. However any letters that actually got typed were always lower case. So for example, as I was adding the Movie Times menu item, with the keys locked into CAPS mode, my text entry gave me "movie times" with no CAPS.
Any ideas?

If you bring up the DVD audio/subtitles menu (press up arrow) the 'Audio' and 'Subtitles Off' text have the last few pixels missing.

Is the Multispeed FF/REW now included as part of SageMC?
I imported the STVi thinking that it needed to be done that way, but then it was all messed up. I went back to the original STV, and noticed that it was already there.
However, I was looking at the import zip file, and noticed there is a gkusnick.sagetv.jar in there, that isn't in the SageMC full version. Is the jar file needed for this feature?

Quick question (I think). I'm writing another blog post - this time about commercial detection and how to set it up in SageTV as well as SageMC. My question is this, when setting up commercial detection for SageMC do you need the following:
Commercial Detection Program: ComSkip or ShowAnalyzer
File Monitor: DirMon or ComSkip MonitorAm I correct that you need these two things with SageMC, but don't need the ComSkip Playback STVI like you do with the standard STV?
Another question is this, do people use DirMon with ComSkip or only ComSkip Monitor with ComSkip?
@Brent
You are correct. Comskip playback support is built in to SageMC (both .txt and .edl). FYI, edl is the preferred format. It is much more accurate.
i'm a little bit confused about the comskip settings in sagemc.
under "my menu/settings/sagemc/enhancements/comskip options", there is an option for "background commercial processing" which can be enabled. the description for the option says, "Enable commercial processing within SageMC. Disable this setting if you use an external scheduler like e.g. DirMon2".
however, I have enabled that option and commercials still don't get skipped (and i don't see any .edl files in the sage directories).
is "background commercial processing" not what i think it is, and in fact you do need to use something like comskip monitor or dirmon to process the mpg files?
Mitch G

Based on my experience you need to set up something like comskip monitor - which works quite well - to mark the commercials.
Search post titles for "comskip monitor" and you'll find it.
Then SageMC will skip over the marked commercials.
I don't know what that "background commercial processing" is.

It appears to be a comskip proxy (similar, if not the same thing that was included with SageMC a long time ago). This allowed SageMC to initiate the comskip program. I however, am not familiar with how it is setup. E.g, does comskip need to be installed in a certain path for SageMC to know where it is?
So, if it works like it sounds like it works, you still need comskip for it to work. No idea if it is compatible with ShowAnalyzer or not...
Not sure that helped much... :(

i'm a little bit confused about the comskip settings in sagemc.
Take a look at this post (http://brentevans.blogspot.com/2008/02/skip-commercials-with-press-of-button.html) and see if it helps you get commercial skip set up. It's meant to be a primer for setting up commercial skip within SageTV and/or SageMC (http://brentevans.blogspot.com/2008/02/skip-commercials-with-press-of-button.html).
Basically, you need the following if you already have SageMC installed:
1. Commercial Detection Program: Comskip or Showanalyzer
2. File monitor program: Comskip monitor or Dirmon2
The comskip playback support is built into SageMC so you don't need to install the comskip playback import.
Hope this helps,

thanks for the responses. i actually already had comskip monitor set up, but i thought that i might be able to do away with it if sagemc already had the commercial marking built in. but i guess it must be a legacy or unsupported option since no one seems to know what it does. back to comskip monitor!

With all this talk about getting commercial skipping working, I'd figured I'd finally give it a go. I got Comskip and Comskip monitor setup and running fine. SageMC is not auto skipping the commercials though. I see the grey segments in the timeline denoting the commercials, but it continues to play right thru them. I have enabled the auto skip in SageMC/enhancements/comskip options. If I bring up the options menu while a show is playing, comskip is always set to disabled. What am I missing?

Is anyone else having issues with the miniguide? Pressing up cycles thru only 5 channels, and pressing down does the same with 5 different channels. Where are all the rest of my channels?Well....I maybe be slow (rarely ever watch live TV), but I finally had a chance to figure this out. What was happening is I had my up command set to "up/Channel up" and down to "down/channel Down". This was causing it to "page up/down" thru all my channels. Once I set my commands to just up and down, it works fine. Whew...thank goodness.

I believe the comskip option in SageMC does still work. You just need to place the comskip executable and comskip.ini file in the SageTV directory. SageMC should then be able to invoke comskip.
I used to use SageMC's built in comskip functionality, but switched to Comskip Monitor because it cleans up the files after shows are deleted.

On a side note; I may need to check out Showanalyzer or work with Comskip's advanced settings, as it's accuracy needs some tweaking. I have a few shows it's really way off on.

PS: IMDB Actor pictures are not showing up anymore; only movie's front cover picture.
Mitch, I'm not really the best person to answer this, but I can at least try to answer your question. I think what you're asking about is different than what I'm asking.
It sounds like we might be talking about two different things; both of which have very straight forward options to backup/restore settings; except the method Im trying to use is broken.
For your case... To backup/restore SageMC settings in general...
1) Go to the Settings menu.
2) Select SageMC Options.
3) Under Main, you will see the options for "Backup SageMC Options" and "Restore SageMC Options".
In my case, Im trying to specifically save all the size, position, and respective settings of the Main Menu and restore it on a new SageTV installation; or "clone" it in another menu.

Ok. So, I did a full install of SageMC (over top of my long-working version), including on my Extender for the past few days since I received it. It's been working great, until...
The problem now is that all of SageMC on my extender is extremely pixelated, whited out, and sometimes navigation is completely missing. Doesn't matter which theme I try to use...how many times I restart the extender or my server...or how many times I re-install SageMC. Same results.
When I revert back to the default STV, no issues. Works and looks perfect.
Photos:
Sometimes, I get no navigation bar and simply white (very blurry and pixelated) text:

Sometimes, I get a little graphic navigation visibility...but still, very basic colors, all blurry and pixelated. It reminds me of 1980.

Going a little crazy here. I simply wanted to install the Netflix plugin (was actually doing the same thing as above, but ONLY for the Netflix screens). With help, I realized I might have a previous install of and older version hanging around. So, I started SageMC from scratch...and now I've got this problem throughout.
Please help,

Al, when you are "reinstalling SageMC" you should be doing this one of two ways:
From the STV detailed setup menu Advanced>"SageTV Application Package (.STV or .XML) File"> then enter and browse to the SageMC16x9.xml file and hit enter. This is just like you would have when you first installed SageMC the first time
Alternatively, when you are installing an update over the current SageMC, within SageMC you can go to the settings menu of SageMC and select "Import STV" and select that SageMC16x9.xml file and hit enter. One important thing to note is that you should be downloading the "upgrade" version of SageMC HERE (http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/downloads.php?do=file&id=139) - not the full install that you use for a first-time install.
I hope this helps. If not, let us know.

Hey Brent,
Bullet #1: Yep.
Bullet #2: Yep.
(both do the same)
Regarding upgrade vs. full version: That's what I had been doing (upgrading), but was having problems with the Netflix plugin. Per the recommendations (at least, how I interpreted them), I installed the full SageMC package. I figured I'd lose some settings, but not that big of a deal. Either way, I can't imagine why installing the full version instead of just the changes would do something like this?
Thoughts?
EDIT: I should note that it seems most of the pop-up windows look just fine. Everything else (seems to be theme-wise?) is a mess.

yes, both do the same - I was just making sure you did load the xml correctly which you did.

I'm not sure to be honest, but I do know I've always loaded the update version and not re installed the full version on top of itself.
Any chance you have a backup of the SageTV folder from before this happened? If so you could try re-loading from that. Note: If you do this, save your current sageTV folder in another place for a backup in case things don't get better.
Hopefully someone else will chime in with some suggestions as I'm out of them. Keep me posted on your progress.

Hi,
When playing a DVD I want the FF/Rew buttons to skip the times I have defined, like in Live TV.
Instead of this it goes into FF mode, like on a VCR! I have multispeed disabled.
Is there a way to change this in SageMC (it works fine in the default STV)?
TIA,
Nick.

OK. I'm (mostly) successfully running SageTV 6.3.10 and SageMC 6.3.7.
But, I'm having trouble with the new "customizable online services" feature introduced in 6.3.9.
This feature lets you edit a file to add your own podcast feeds.
Although my custom feed is able to be accessed in the standard Sage interface, it does not show up on the SageMC interface.

New features in the default STV aren't automatically added into SageMC, they need to be ported manually by someone which can take a little while.

Yeah I figured it was something like that. So, I guess my post is a feature request. :)
Actually, if someone pointed me to a file or two the showed a similar feature, I might be willing to take a crack at porting the change.

It's on the to-do list based on this post (http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?p=269004&postcount=5895). Dirk and Mike have been pretty good about getting those features added to SageMC. I'd guess we'll see it in the next month or so at least.

Hey guys,
I had a problem over the weekend, thanks to a faulty USB header my external HDD decided to lose all my video file entries on one of my video drives. I ended up having to use a NTFS file recovery utility to retrieve the files but thankfully I didn't lose anything. Well, I put the files into another Sage video directory on a reliable disk where my other files are located and restarted SageMC. The shows automatically showed up in my recordings list with all episode guide data intact however I couldn't play the files. Instead, they automatically start with the Stop, Restart, Delete screen not an error message. I almost half expected them to say that the file wasn't there but it finds the files but it can't play them.
I try to restart them and the screen appears immediately. I then sent them to my media import directory and tried to play them there but only a few of them imported automatically. They played fine but when I manually tried to play one of the others, it again popped up the Stop, Restart, Delete screen and would not play no matter how many times I restarted.
Here's the odd thing, just to make sure the files weren't corrupted I ran them through Windows media player and they were all A-OK. What gives?

Hi Michael,
right now I don't know what else to tell you. If you are really desperate, I can only think of one other thing to try: an absolute clean start with a new SageTV install. Although the following procedure should be absolutely safe, use at you own risk:
shut down UI and server
make a full copy of your root SageTV directory (which contains 'Common' and 'SageTV') including all subdirectories, let's name it 'SageTV.backup'
uninstall SageTV
delete the old SageTV directory completely (so that no old files remain)
install SageTV again (into the exact same path as the original installation)
install the full SageMC download package
copy your Sage.properties, SageClient.properties, sagemc_menu.xml, and Wiz.bin files from SageTV.backup to the new install directory. If you use a custom theme, you might want to copy this back too
start SageTV, it will probably start up with the default STV
load the SageMC STV
try if cloning works
if everything is well, you can start reinstalling your other plugins, one by one. After each install, check if the cloning functionality still worksIf a clean reinstall still doesn't doesn't make a difference, or if you need to go back to the original install for any other reason, then
shut down server and UI
rename the new 'SageTV' root directory to something else, e.g. 'SageTV.junk'
rename your 'SageTV.backup' back to 'SageTV'
start server and UI, everything should be back as before. You can delete the new 'SageTV.junk' directory againOne warning: I assume you are running Vista with UAC disabled. If you have UAC enabled, then I do not know for sure if the above steps will backup all your original SageTV files, I think that in this case Vista will save some of the configuration files in a different location...
And again: use at your own risk - I am not using Vista myself, but I have done this procedure on my XP machine in the past without issues.

Dirk, there at least two other different people that have reported this same exact issue. Isn't there another way to find out what's causing the problem? Maybe there's something in common that all of us have? I could be wrong, but the suggestion you gave me is presuming that one of the imports I'm using is causing this problem. I am just using the most popular and newest imports... nothing out of the ordinary or old.
1) MovieTimes for SageMC
2) Netflix for SageMC
3) AMG for SageMC
4) Slimplayer for SageMC
5) Toolbar fox SageMC
6) Sleep Timer (This is the only relatively old one which needs updating for the latest sageMC).
If there's no good solution for us, maybe you could offer a manual way for us to copy the custom settings we have for the Main Menu for other dynamic menus. This would still be easier than reinstalling everything one by one.
Thanks again,
Michael

Kricker, can you tell us what imports you have installed on your machine? There has to be something all of us have in common that's causing this significant feature to break.
Is anyone else having problems cloning the main menu to the dynamic submenus and the reverse? It looks as some basic things clone over, but not the new advanced settings for each item on the screen.

I will test what it does if I clean out my .jar folder and only have what is intalled by SageMC. Then I will test using flachbar's method above. Gimme 1 hour to post back results.
Also, my cloning is only half broken. The basic layout is copied, but not the detailed stuff such as font sizes within each onscreen item.

I did not mess with any of my JAR files or install. All I did was disable the server.
I disabled Server and all cloning import/export functions work perfectly. With Sage server running and SageTV as a client, things do not work quite right as we have described earlier.
I also noticed that sizing the text with the icon menu has a strange anomaly. With Server off, the number that shows the size of the text is properly shown and changes as you increase or decrease the text size. With Server on, this does not happen. The number stays fixed as the text changes size.
After creating a export with Server off, I was able to import this when I turned server back on. But any changes I make and try to export will not work properly. I have to do all my edits with server off.

For the clone functionality the java code has to access the property file directly, and it was using the API 'IsServerUI()' to determine whether to access Sage.properties or SageClient.properties. As it turns out, it does return 'true' in both cases - running service and non-service mode. But with Andy's help I found a way to distinguish between both modes, and now the JAR is accessing the correct file...
Glad it works now for you guys !

Is there any way to have only the "MyTV" part of the menus? I have no need for the main menu as is....just the tv screen. I see I can remove menu items by right-clicking and going through those options and even move them up and down but I don't see a way to just get rid of the entire main menu and launch in the mytv menu.

In many of my submenus, the focused buttons are rendering behind the nofocus buttons:eek:
Either I found a bug, or have some obscure setting messed up...

There's a setting in SageMC settings to turn auto-commercial-skip on and off. You might check to see that this setting is set to on.

For now I just made all of my nofocus buttons transparent (empty). Looks clean, but is a little weird on busy screens.
First noticed it when I was using low alpha nofocus button images, and saw varying degrees of brightness on the focus button when navigating. Turned out I was looking "though a nofocus button darkly".

My individual comskip settings for the recordings are fine. So that's not the problem.
And, I thought there was a global comskip setting, but I could not find it so I stopped looking for it.
So, where is that setting?
Thanks,

I'm having an odd problem where some retrieved video files are having a problem playing back. SageMC thinks that the beginning of each file is actually the end so immediately it presents a screen to restart, delete or stop. If I hit the rewind button the timeline starts going negative, -1:00. Also the timeline starts in the middle and where the video actually is the line is blue.
How do I correct for this. I want SageMC to know where the true start of a show is right from the get go. Thanks in advance.

I've seen somebody else post about this problem, but I haven't found any resolution. When using the default STV, the mini guide displays all channels as they are listed in the 'guide'. When I switch to SageMC, it only shows a few channels. I have 3 tuners including 2 OTA digital using HDHR and 1 analog using Hauppauge 250. This issue has been a problem for a long time for me (maybe a year) and I just upgraded to the latest SageMC (6.3.7a) and SageTV (6.3.10) without an improvement. It's possible the issue could have appeared on my system at the time I added the HDHR tuner, but I can't say for sure. Anyway, the miniguide will cycle through less than 10 channels (out of about 80), some digital, some analog. Anybody have thoughts on this?

So it looked as if the guide only had a few channels in it, but in reality I was unknowingly skipping thru most of them with the page up page down commands.

I just upgraded to Sage 6.3.10.
I reloaded my last SageMC-x.xml file and all is perfect except...
Is it just my setup, or are the sub-menus in online services using bits and pieces from the default STV?
It's suddenly giving me a blue background behind the category icons, the video icons, and up in the description area. I'm also seeing the scrollbar from the defalt STV.
In the rest of my theme the backgrounds and scroll bars are fine (from my theme).

Is there any way to have only the "MyTV" part of the menus? I have no need for the main menu as is....just the tv screen. I see I can remove menu items by right-clicking and going through those options and even move them up and down but I don't see a way to just get rid of the entire main menu and launch in the mytv menu.
Any input on this would be GREATLY appreciated.

Well, thank you guys for what you do! It's come a long way considering it's a side / hobby project!
Let me ask about the last few minor things I'm bumping into...
1. In many sections, the highlighted "focus" button is rendering behind the "nofocus" buttons as I navigate. This is not consistent - only on certian menus.
2. Is it in the plan to be able to toggle the default menu text titles (i.e. My TV, My Music, etc). I think many would prefer to only use the graphic title.
3. Really minor - I'd like to use a custom graphic for the tvicon_anim "spinning pinwheen of death", and created one, but it is ignored. Is this hard coded into Sage, or could it be added as an MC feature?
4. When customizing the position of the various parts of the menus, many times the granularity is too coarse, i.e. the position changes per button press are to large. Can this be adjusted?
5. Related to 4, the dialog that pops up when moving menu objects is too tiny to see on my 34" monitor - I suspect the text is telling me something meaningful, but can't read it!
Thanks again!

Thanks again!Since the dialog is too small for you to read, it says press 'guide' to toggle the step size. It toggles from 2.0 to .01. It also says; press 'stop' to restore default, page up/down to scale, numpad 1-9 to jump to that location on the screen, 0 to reset scale to 1.0

Hey Dirk - there's a shape that's used quite abit in the OSD - I think it's called "Background" in Studio - hard coded to 0xCCCCCC. Any chance you could move that value to the theme? I like the look of black (0x000000) transparent overlays, but everything in SageMC looks more like gray because of this transparent gray background.
Posted this over in the AMG thread but then figured you'd be more likely to see it in this thread.

Hi,
I installed the latest SageTV (v6_3_10) and upgraded SageMC to its latest version (v6.3.7a).
When I now start SageMC, I get "You have an old version (null) of sagemc.jar installed. Please update to the latest version!.".
I did install the updated sagemc.jar from a few posts earlier, but still same error.
And I do have VISTA with UAC enabled (took a while to understand it, but not giving me real problems for the moment). I can find no other sagemc.jar to replace. I do run Sage as a service, but even when not as a service (tried it) I get the same error.
Any idea's? I have not tried all functions, but playback and so one seem all to work.

I'm a former WMC user and I wanted to thank you for SageMC, it blows away anything Microsoft did with WMC. I've read all the posts about My Movies (I used My Movies for years) however after running SageMC for a month now I think SageMC is a great replacement, and even does some things better. However, there are two My Movies features that I do miss and I would appreciate you considering these feature requests for some future SageMC release.
1) Sort by date. When you have a large movie collection it can be nice to just sort by date and see the newest movies added to the collection. Sometimes I'm just interested in a "New Release" and I don't want to scroll through all the old movies to find it. Is this something that could be added (it would be the exact same Sort by Date functionality that My TV has)?
2) Playing Movies Trailers. This request isn't a high priority at all, but My Movies had the ability to add an http link to the movies trailer and then when you sit down to see what movie you want to watch you can play the trailers. Again, this is a "nice to have" but it isn't something I used a lot (maybe once a month). However, it is something that was a really nice feature of My Movies that I miss now.
Thank you for the great work you've done with SageMC, it has made SageTV a great product.

I had a very similar issue, however, in my case it wasn't a problem with SageMC (the problem was with the way I was importing the videos into Sage). To fix my problem I used Sage Webserver. This is a nice free utility that you can find in the download section of the forums. Once you get it installed, you can find your show with the problem and then select Edit Show Info. At the bottom of the page there are two settings: File Start Time and File Duration. Once I fixed those settings everything worked correctly for me.

I'm using UNC paths for my recording directories. My serverPC, HD extender and SD extender all point to those UNC paths and recognize the comskip files just fine. The serverPC, HD and SD extenders all read the comskip files directly from the server, so they don't need UNC paths.
My clientPC however doesn't for some reason. What could I be missing?Look at the recording details for the recording you are trying to play with comskip files. Does it show something like \\Server\Recordings\tvshow-12345.mpg or does it show E:\Recordings\tvshow-12345.mpg? You may need to load the default UI temporarily to see the recording location for the file.
If you just recently went to UNC paths, any old recordins will still show the old drive path. New recordings with the UNC path should work on the client, but old recordings won't due to the old drive path. Sage doesn't automatically repath all the recordings if it can still see them in the original location.

Ah, that makes sense to me. I'll do a little research to see if that was the problem.
By the way, if instead of using UNC paths I just map my client PC and use the exact same mapping scheme (eg. o/recordings/sageshows) as I did on my server PC would the client PC see all of the comskip (edl) files even for the older recordings?
EDIT: Just tried making the path on the client PC exactly like the path on the server PC and that did allow the client PC to see all of the comskip files including older recordings which was what I needed. I did this instead of typing in the UNC path for this reason. Thanks for your help!

Yup, if you can duplicate the mapping path on the client, it should work. You need to share the root of the Server's recording drive and on the client PC, map that share with the same drive letter that the server uses. That way, when the client sees that the recording is at O:/recordings/sageshows, it will look at that same directory for the .edl file. With the mapped drive, it will look at its own O: drive and be able to find the .edl file.
edit: I see your edit that you got it working. Cool. Now, you can either keep the UNC path or go back to have Sage recording to the O: drive. Doesn't really matter, except for in the future if you added additonal PC clients, you'd need to duplicate the drive mapping if you didn't use UNC paths.

It sounds like there is a problem with the header information in the container. What container is this file (mpg, avi, mp4, mkv)? Also, do you know what application did the encoding? Lastly, if you open this file with VLC (or something similar) what does it report as the duration (if you open it with WMP it can also show the file duration)?
I've had problems like this in the past when I picked a conversion application that didn't do a good job with certain containers (mp4 seems to give some applications fits) and I've had good success with simply re-muxing the file using ffmpeg. Below is an example command line. Using the copy switches causes ffmpeg to just read the streams from one file and write them into the new file, and in the process re-doing all the container information (re-muxing).
ffmpeg -vcodec copy -acodec copy -i "inputfile.mp4" "outputfile.mp4"
In some cases you have to remove the subtitle stream for it to work (for containers like mkv). If that is the case with your file you can add the -sn command to tell ffmpeg not to do anything with the subtitles. So, the example would look like this:
ffmpeg -vcodec copy -acodec copy -sn -i "inputfile.mkv" "outputfile.mkv"
I don't know if this really helps, but it's the next thing I'd look at.

Well, the file is an .mpg file created by an HD Homerun.
Given my set up, it's hard for me to see how the file runs in other applications like VLC. I would have to copy it over to another PC and it's a 7GB file. So, I've been reluctant.
That said, I scheduled a file conversion in Sage to see if that helps.
Otherwise, I'll look into the ffmpeg stuff you mentioned.
Thanks,
Mitch

On the latest SageMC version I've had to disable menu icon animation on my HD Extenders. There are a lot of artifacts during the animation - so much so that it is annoying. It is hard to describe what I'm seeing - but the area where the text is seems to be hit the most. I understand that the RSS reader built into SageMC can handle podcasts, but is there any way to set it up so that it pre-downloads the episode as soon as it's available?
My internet connection is not fast enough to stream HD video podcasts, so I'd like for my Sage PC to download them in the background so they're waiting for me. I've looked into external podcast clients (e.g. Juice), and I guess I could set it up to download the file to one of my media folders. But I'm hoping for better integration with SageMC (e.g. a ticker to let me know a new episode is available, with the ability to launch the episode in a few simple clicks.)
Does anyone have any suggestions for doing this, either with the built-in RSS reader or with an external app?

They were probably grey circles. They mean that the series is set as a favorite, but those particular showings are not going to be recorded either due to watched status, already having been recorded or already being scheduled to record in another time slot.

I think this is what it must be. I noticed that they tend to be farther out. Although I did set up my recording look ahead for 7 days out. However, I was confused as to why some of the series recordings had green stacked circles. Once I set a new series I noticed that for a brief second I had green circles and then they changed immediately to red.

My cover art seems to have disappeared when I moved files from my recording drive to my movie drive (which has its dir listed as a video import dir instead of a recording dir). I moved both the mpg and .my file.
Also if I place the .my files in the manual .my or metadata path that is configured will the metedata get correctly picked up?

Yes, backgrounds can be specified on a per-menu basis. An example of this is in my Liquid theme. The background file definitions are in the theme.properties file.
Aloha,
Mike
Thanks, Mike. Worked like a charm, but to belabor the point, it would be "nice" (meaning someone else should do it :) ) if there was the option in selecting the background in the SageMC options to apply it only to the main page or to all pages. That way there would be no need to change every theme's property file.

Question...
I fished around a bit here and came up with this:
mlbdude/limit_external_to_extensions=avi
Alright, all I want to do is to limit the external player to just that type of file.
I have edited Sage.properties (not running clients), dropped that line in and the external player (Gom Player) also grabs every other file type to play externally.
Was this from another version or is there something new that needs to be done now?
I am running latest releases of Sage and MC....

As of the latest version, all SageMC properties have been migrated to
sagemc/...
and the setting looks like it has to include the dot as well. So try setting
sagemc/limit_external_to_extensions=.avi
and see if that works.

Thanks, that explains where everything went.... also, did not use the dot and it worked fine.

Hi
I have just switched to sagemc from the default stv, one thing i have noticed is that when running on my mvp and playing music if I use the visualisations (cover art) then after the first song of an album the cover art disappears and won't come back, even if i cold boot the mvp's the cover art for the previously played album is missing, yet it is still there on the server? is this a known problem or do i need to configure something.
cheers

once i'm in "My Menu", there does not seem to be a way to return to the Main menu. It's been driving me crazy.
Other than that, this looks real nice. I do miss the go back button that is in the upper left corner on the regular SageTV. I now have to click the left arrow to go up one level.

You need to bind a remote button to the "Back" command in order to get back.
One thing, since it sounds like you are using a mouse, you may be interested in, is the Toolbar plugin for SageMC by MeInMaui. It is more mouse friendly! :D

If you are using keyboard/remote, you can either use the "Left" button/key to go back (enable "Left as back" in the SageMC Main menu specific options), or you can bind any button/key to the "Back" command in Detailed Setup / Link commands.
If you are using a mouse, there is a "hidden" back-spot in the left upper corner of each menu that will bring you back, or you can use MeInMaui's Toolbar like Geogecko said.

I tried rebooting too. Cycling through those menu items. I get movie posters, and all other IMDB info, just not the actor picture. Dirk any other ideas why this might be happening?
For what it's worth, I have tried both cycling through the choices, as wel as re-booting, and I still don't get the actor picture. I get all the other data, including the cover picture, but not the actor picture.
Must have misunderstood your questions (I thought you had an issue with cover art for Movies <-> TV series), and I didn't notice that you were talking about the "actor" pictures. I'll have a look at this.

I'll give it a try. i did notice that hidden back button in the upper left corner (I thought something was wrong with my display :-) but it doesn't work for the My Menu screen and neither does the left arrow - although the left arrow works for every other screen but not all screens have the hidden button working, it seems.
