Does anyone know whether these are compatible with SageTV. I can't figure out if they use hardware or software for capturing (let alone what chipset they use), but they are priced well!

The last one seems to need a relatively slow processor, so I'm guessing hardware compression, but does anyone know for sure?
The first one maybe you need find out what under the hood like what MPEG encoder chip it is the other 2 most like not.

KWorld's website states that these are software encoders and decoders, so I would think not.

We support the KWorld DVD Maker PCI cards.
The links you've listed here we don't support those.

Thanks Jeff.
I did mean to post the link to one of those PCI cards instead of the link to the USB 2 DVD maker twice!
Upon closer reading I noticed that the USB 2 DVD maker link does say it has a hardware encoder chipset. Would this be a different chipset than the PCI card version? If not would it be possible to support it like you do some of the newer Hauppauge USB models?
At just over $50 it looks like it would make an excellent second card for my PVR... (assuming the quality is ok!)

I think its misleading. I don't believe that the $53 USB version has a hardware MPEG2 encoder. Mainly because no one is producing anything like that for anywhere near that price currently.

What about this card?

Listed here on Kworld's website:

Its hard to tell if its a hardware or software encoder though :-/
No newbie21 it has Conexant CX23883 chip and a Texas Instruments Firewire chip and look like there a PCI bridge the one cover up by a heat sinker so there no telling what it could be.

OK I just recently bought a Kworld V-Stream TV-PVR 883 and I would really like to know if it's compatible with the SageTV software. I really don't understand anything about hardware/software encoder????? I have been everywhere on the SageTV site and looked everywhere for support of Kworld products but I cant find anything. I have intsalled SageTV and I keep getting different errors when I click on view in the channel Setup portion of you software. Before I updated my drivers I got Error (-12). Now that I've updated my drivers I get..."There was a Playback Error in Playback. Details: sage.Playback Exception: ERROR (-4,0x80040111): There was a problem rendering the video portion of the content for playback."

hardware encoder means the card has a dedicated chip that converts the analogue video into digital mpeg
with software encoding, you use software and the power of your CPU to convert the analogue video into digital mpeg
