Just thought I would throw this out there incase someone else had this issue.

I had the same issue with the Linux ISO Gentoo install V4 as well as installing V5 over Ubuntu 6.06. Right now I am working with the V5 on Ubuntu.

The problem is that when I get to the portion of the configuration that asks me for the video source (Im using a PVR-500) as soon as I select any source (ie composite, s-video, tv-tuner) the computer immediately reboots.

Im going to focus on the ivtv drivers first, but if anyone has had this issue I would greatly appreciate any input.

Thanks!

I just tried to capture a stream right from the terminal and the system rebooted. So this eliminates SageTV as any part of the problem. I will forge ahead, but if anyone has any ideas.. Im game.

Thanks!

Well bad news...

Looks like it is a problem with some older versions of the VIA chipsets:-(

I have a Jetway Mainboard V6FP with the KM266 (VT8375) VIA chipset.

I have another Mainboard with an Intel chipset that Ill try.....

Stay tuned.

It's pretty well known that VIA chipsets have problems with the 500. Some SIS and Ali chipsets have trouble as well.

Okay my Intel board did not have an AGP slot for my video card, so I used another VIA based system that I had and voila it works! What a difference a chipset makes!

Just for others info the chipset that works is VIA VT8237R

Now I just need to buy an IR Blaster and I think Im set.
