I've got a SageTV installed in my media server and the media server is running:

Windows Server 2003
2GB RAM
Pentium 4 930 CPU(Dual Core)
Hauppauge PVR-250
SageTV recording space formatted to 64K cluster size
SageTV 5.0.4 Service Installed

My Client box is:
Windows MCE 2005
SageTV Placeshifter Client v5.0.4
AthlonXP 2400+
512MB RAM
Gigabyte GeForce 6200 -> S-Video > Analog TV

I record everything using the server and watch it on the client box using a gigabit connection over the LAN. I have the latest drivers for EVERYTHING. I have the placeshifter client set to do NO transcoding for LAN use. When watching video through the Placeshifter client I get constant video judder on pans...yuck! If I watch the recorded mpegs using Windows MCE (w/the latest Nvidia Decoder & set to Automatic) I get fairly acceptable video with barely any noticable judder. How is the video decoded on the placeshifter client? Is this normal for the Placeshifter Client? Is there any way to eliminate this judder without buying the SageTV client(you can set the mpeg decoders right?)??

On my home network LAN I have a large number of PC,s (6 Lap Tops and 7 Desk Tops) and as a test I installed both the regular client and the Place Shifter client on a number of these systems. The judder on panning with the Place Shifter is very bad (LAN setting to no compression). This is reproducible on all channels and all recordings using SD material. With the regular client everything is perfect. During these tests the loading on the server is less than 40% so the server is not maxed out in the process of transcending from mpeg2 to mpeg4 for the Place Shifter.

I repeated this experiment on a total of four different systems -- the results were identical with judder on panning all the time with the Place Shifter and no judder on pans with the regular client. A number of these clients will also playback HD material from the same server with virtually no skipping, stutter or judder.
