I want to rip my 100 or so dvd's to divx on my hard drive and then catalog em for easy playback. What software do you all reccomend ?

I think Gordian Knot (a package of freeware apps) would work well for the divx conversion. See http://doom9.org/
I think SageTV aims to be your jukebox.
I use a combination of SmartRipper (free) and Dr Divx($$). Idiotproof with good quality. Probably worth the money if you're really going to rip 100's of DVD's.

I paid $6 at walmart for dvdripper, all in one utility that rips and converts to VCD/SVD or divX. Works well so far

I used smartripper to get to unencrypted vob then dvd2avi to convert to divx. Both are free.
