I've lost my hair. I tried sagetv with my sonyB55 direct tv and almost all the channels change using the sony serial dtv plugin. But I couldn't get hbo and a few others to work.
So I gave up on that and now I am trying
to use sagerecorder and the info on using stub transmitter and stubdevice below. But it hangs the program up on trying to get past initializing infrared device. It plays and works fine without the channel change if I don't play with channel change in properties. I just can't change channels on the sony dtv.
The info I followed is below. Did I read it correctly that I replace stubdevice with the words com1 in properties?
This is from post "Exetunerplugin help needed" Any help would be appreciated.

SageTV has DirecTV Serial control integrated into it now. You can use it in SageRecorder, but you need to edit the SageRecorder.properties file manually. Here's what to do:

1. Launch SageRecorder and go into Setup
2. Under Sources, select the "Stub Transmitter" for IR Transmit (Port is irrelevant here)
3. Click OK
4. Open Setup again.
5. For the input you're trying to configure, select "StubDevice".
6. Click OK.
7. Close SageRecorder
8. Open SageRecorder.properties using Notepad
9. Search for "StubDevice". Change it to be COM1, COM2, COM3, COM4 or whatever serial port the DirecTV receiver is connected to.
10. Save the file and quit notepad
11. Start SageRecorder and you should be ready to go.

NOTE: This requires Version 1.4.8 or higher.

Don't know if you found the resolution to your problem here. But I had the same issue and was frustrated with it for an hour or so and was bothered that there was no response to your question.

My problem ended up being that when I replaced the StubDevice with the COM port I did not capitalize it. Apparently it is case sensitive and the COM1 or COM2 needs to be capitalized.....

I sure wish the documentation on using SageRecorder as a network encoder was better...would have saved me an hour or so...
