The preview thumbnails for videos is all nice and pretty but it's a needless drain on resources and slows down the interface on any menu that uses them. How can I disable them?

Set this property to false. ex: below

video_thumbnail_generation=false

Just realized how painful it is to change settings for placeshifter when you're not at home; as a feature request, can we make these properties editable in the Sage client itself?

I'd love that to be an option that is configurable through the GUI. I've been converting a lot of my DVDs lately to H.264 in MKV containers and they just all show up as a gray rectangle... Older conversions that were to XviD in AVI tend to simply show the studio logo...

I did that and it stopped making the thumbnail files and now pulls the thumbnails live from the videos everytime. How do I stop the thumbnails from displaying at all?

Well, I guess it's a good thing that I didn't get around to doing this yet...

I changed the setting for thumbnail delay from 300 to 30000 in the hopes that it would simply wait so long before displaying the thumbnails that they would never come up but that seemed to have no effect.

I got it! Just had to stop using the Sage service and run just the Sage app and the thumbnails are gone. The interface is much faster now.

Could it be that you weren't updating the right properties file, ie were you updating the client.properties file earlier?

That's one of the few things (other than my hopefully surmountable installation issues), that I really disliked about version 6: the thumbnails.

A couple of arguments against thumbnails as a non-optional feature:

1. I don't particularly want my kids seeing thumbnails of videos in other folders.

2. I watch downloaded sports events through Sage, and would prefer not to see thumbnails of spoilers.

Ok, to turn off thumbnails, which properties file do I need to edit? I run the server in application mode (i.e., not in service mode) and run clients on two other machines.

Thanks.

If you run Sage clients, you need to edit the SageClient.properties file on the client machine.
