I am trying to setup a SageTV Server on Windows 2003 Server and am getting the following error when I go to LIveTV.
"There was an error with the MPEG-2 audio setup.
Default rendering of output pin on selected MPEG2 audio decoder failed.
ErrCode=0x80040256"
I have an ECS K7S5A Motherboard with Duron 1300. DDR266 RAM. ATI Radeo 7200. WinTV-PVR-250.
I have ran this exact hardware on Windows XP Pro and it worked fine.
Just for grins, I disabled the on-board AC-97 audio and popped a Sound Blaster PCI-16 in and still had the same error.
Any ideas?

Why directx (DVD) audio filters have you installed? Which have you set to use in SageTV?

I haven't installed anything other than what has come with the Win-TV and the various mfr drivers for sound cards and what-not.
I have installed the WinTV-PVR video decoder. It says on the Audio Tab that I have the Intervideo Non-CSS Audio devcoder. Under the Renderer, I have Default, DirectSound:Name of Sound Card, and Default Wave Device.

I'm not sure if this will solve your problem, but I had issues with Sage Recorder on Windows Server 2003 until I did this. Maybe it will help... By default Windows Server 2003 comes with DirectX disabled. To enable graphics acceleration do this, right click on the desktop and go to Properties, Settings, Advanced, Troubleshooting, and set the Hardware acceleration bar to Full. You might also need to activate Direct3D and DirectDraw (DirectX), go to Start/Run and type "dxdiag". Click OK. Click on the Display tab, then click on the Enable button for DirectDraw and Direct3d.

Also, if you are not running the Standard edition you will need to enable the Windows Audio service. Here's what you need to do. Go to Start -> Run -> and type Services.msc followed by enter. The Services window will appear, scroll down until you find "Windows Audio". Double click on Windows Audio -> and change the startup type to Automatic -> then Apply -> Start -> OK. You might need to restart for this to take effect.

Thanks for the tips. Unfortunately I went ahead and reinstalled my media server as a WinXP Pro machine. I got tired of the lack of driver support for sound cards, tuner card, etc... SInce I know that XP is the target platform for most of thses devices I went ahead and used that. Once there is more support for 2003 I'll switch back.
