USB-UIRT Mac driver

I was wondering if anyone knows if the USB-UIRT port for OS X at http://www.xyster.net/ribsu/index.php can be used with PlaceShifter for Mac? I was thinking it could be kludgy but could you have an AppleScript read the raw input and generate keystrokes that PlaceShifter can read?
