SageTV Mac version choppy on Core 2 1.66 Mac Mini

I'm trying out the OSX version of SageTV on Mac OSX on my Core 2 Mac Mini (1.66Ghz). The Mini is plugged in to a Dell 2405FPW (1920x1200) monitor via the DVI cable. The Mac version of SageTV Client is really choppy - like 50% frame rate.

Under BootCamp/Windows XP on this same box, everything works flawlessly, at full speed under SageTV Client (Windows version).

So... any ideas on why I'm having performance problems under OSX?

I've had occasional choppy playback with the Mac Placeshifter which I treat by pausing the playback for a few secods, then when I resume, playback is smooth.
