View Full Version : Beta 6.3.1 and support for TS plug-ins
Ever closer to the HD Extender
Reading the release notes, I do have a question -
"8. Added ability to specify a plugin transport stream processing filter"
What kind of plug-in are we talking about ? Would this be compatible with plug-in from MyTheatre and the like ?
wanted to clear up what this was for:
Windows Updates
8. Added ability to specify a plugin transport stream processing filter
This is for adding a 'Transport Stream Processing' filter to the DirectShow filter graph for Digital TV. Since there's such a wide variety of data that can actually be sent over a transport stream we figured this was a good way to allow people to create plugins that could deal with this data. This is for processing data while it's being recorded. This is not for playback.
To use this feature just create this registry value as a REG_SZ:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Frey
Technologies\Common\AdditionalCaptureSetups\PluginFilter\PrePlugin="My TS Processing Filter"
Then SageTV will look in the 'DirectShow Filters' category of filters to find the filter named 'My TS Processing Filter' (or whatever you set that registry value to); and insert it into the digital TV graph to give it access to the raw transport stream data.
So it appears that Jeff (Narflex) figured he would qualify the notes on exactly this topic, which has me even more interested ... I just wish I understood more
How does this compare to the some plug-ins available to MT Theater or DVB Dream.
I assume this might be a touchy subject, so handle with care.
If this does provide similar features to MT or DVB Dream, hats off guys !

Could someone explain why this is so great? I must be missing something with regards to choosing a different ts splitter.

Well, let's just suppose that the TS was being recorded in some format that could not easily be rendered and some bright programmer wanted to fix that issue ...

And another just suppose...
what if someone
Installed Agarwal's Directshow MDAPI filter (http://www.zshare.net/download/17736323744687/)
Registered the MDAPI filter -> regsvr32 <path_to_mdapifilter>\mdapifilter.ax
Changed the registry value HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Frey
Technologies\Common\AdditionalCaptureSetups\PluginFilter\PrePlugin="Agarwal's MDAPI filter"
Would you then be able to set up an MDPlugins directory in SageTV and run MDAPI plugins for things like OSD's for signal strength etc?

Hi John,
Are you suggesting that you've tried this already? If so, this is exciting news indeed! Going to have to fire up my DVB-S card now and do some playing around.

PGPfan, it was just a theory, but I wouldn't bother testing the theory at this point in time if you are running as a service.

It was a theory, but since then I have configured a plugin transport stream processing filter, but it doesn't load when running in service mode. When running not in service mode the filter does load and I get a nice little icon in the system tray. The MDTeletext (http://www.chl.chalmers.se/%7Eohrn/teletext/) plugin I tried left me with a blank screen that I haven't had time to debug yet.

I was wondering if anyone has been able to use the TS plugin yet...esp. with Agarwal's MDAPI plugin. Thanks

I don't run in service mode. So what would I need to do in order to apply an mdapi plugin? Thanks.

Follow the steps already mentioned in post 5 for registering the filter and adding the registry key.
Create an MDPlugins directory (C:\Program Files\SageTV\SageTV\MDPlugins)
Drop your plugins into the MDPlugins directory as per plugin intructions.
Restart SageTV
As I'm sure you appreciate, the ability to configure a plugin transport stream processing filter is merely a framework providing the ability to load a variety of external sourced filters and plugins. Any issues with the filter you choose to load or any associated plugins are probably best referred to the filter or plugin supplier. I couldn't get the MDTeletext plugin to work, but you may have more success with the plugins you choose to use. :)

Anybody able to get this to work?

Maybe it helps to enable "Allow interaction with desktop" on the SAGETV service?
