can this program record in the background with out decoding the image onto the monitor? this will use less cpu and is a feature that is left out of wintv2000.
also when using the xcard can you use the hardware decoder to view tv on your monitor or just on the TV hookup?
thanks

Yes to the background recording.
Only on the TV for the XCard unless you use the VIP connector to a video card that supports it (only some older ones do).

Is there any other hardware mpeg2, divx decoders that can deoode on the tv as well as the monitor??
Also there is some loop cable that is supposed to come with the xcard for the monitor , how does that work with sagetv???
i am very interested in buying the software for sagetv but i do not want to pay a monthly fee for the programing guide, is there a way to use digiguide instead?
thanks in advance for answering a few of my questions, Alex

We don't currently support any external Guide applications for SageTV or SageRecorder.
I'll pose the Xcard question to someone else who's using it, SHS?
As Jeff said if use the PC Monitor you need use VIP you need one of older nVidia or AIT card that has VIP support ocen that hook yes it automatic output to S/Video or Composite at the same time if that what you want to do aSkobs.
Only one other card can do this it know as Canopus VideoGate 1000 but a word of WARNING it not eazy to get and some downside to it.
Far I know of nobody has build all one super chip that can encode and decode MPEG1, 2, 4, DVD, DivX XviD, MP3, WMV/A, etc, etc.
