View Full Version : Corrupt mpeg2 headers?

I am having difficulty editing about 10% of the recordings from SageTV. I am guessing that the mpeg header is corrupt based on the fact the length is never correct when I play back the file in WMP. In the majority of the cases, WMP says the length of the clip is 0:00, but clip plays for the full length of the clip. Loading a "bad" clip in Ulead Video Studio 7 for editing out commercials sends my PC off processing the suspect file for at least 30 minutes for a 1 1/2 hr clip (I haven't had the patience to let it finish yet). A good clip loads in seconds. The machine I am recording on is a 700MHz PIII with a PVR250 running XP. Defragging and free space on hard drive appear to have no affect on the frequency of the issue showing up.

Any ideas on what is causing this?

Any ideas for a "fast" repair process for the "bad" files?

Do you have the same problem with files created using the WinTV2K software?

Don't know because I don't use WinTV2K; had problems with it locking up my machine when I first got the PVR 250.

Prior to purchasing SageTV, I was using WinTVCap driven by the Hauppauge Scheduler; the amount of recording was very limited (averaged about 1 recording per day over two months) due to the clunky TitanTV/Hauppauge Scheduler interface. Didn't see a problem with the files.

I just upgraded to the latest drivers from Hauppauge. Will run a few days to see if this will help.

I have the same problem using the Provideo card trying to edit a file using DVDlab. The file was split with and when I tried to edit it took all of my hard drive space of 30GB for the 3GB file? I tried a small recording and every thing worked ok.
