I've started having a problem with my recently updated (c2 to e1) HDPVR. A show will be playing when all of a sudden I get a black screen. I can change channels (Sage is not hung) to a channel that my 2250 or 500 card tunes in and everything is fine. If I change channels back to something that the HDPVR would tune in....same black screen.

Does anyone have any ideas?

Power cycle the HD-PVR and it will fix it.

I have the same problem. It is really annoying but I have a feeling it is heat related.

:hi: same here. I can go roughly 4 days before it happens. "No Signal" in Sage, "in use by another app" in TME. Power cycle the HD-PVR ... all is well again.

I question heat being the issue tho ... my case has consistently felt cool to the touch when it's happened. Oh ... mine's a Rev E1 as well.

Have you felt the bottom? The sides and top of mine are cool to the touch but the bottom gets pretty hot.

Upgraded to an e1 from an d2, had similar black screen issues as above with e1 but would come back to life with power on/off. Unfortunately, a few days ago it didn't come back to life after one of the power cycles (blue light on, no one home) and I still have not figured out how to get it back working.

I think maybe it just failed.

It was never very hot while running, usually not even warm to the touch.

Since heat rises, I never even thought of checking the base. Will do that tonight.

I've cycled the power on mine, and yes, it comes right back to life. I too have felt all six sides, and the only one that is even warm is the bottom. I had mine sitting directly on the cable box (which generates some heat), so I've since moved it to help insulate it from the cable box. We'll see how this works.

Other than manually pushing the power button on the front, is there a way to send a power cycle (like a restart in Windows) to the box via software? I could do that once a day at say 3:00 in the morning when the likelyhood of it recording would be small.

Also, the files that get recorded when the box freezes are not liked by comskip at all. I get windows errors when DirMon tries to launch comskip on the files that do get recorded.

I recently RMA'd my C2 units and now have a D2 and and E1 unit.
There are still problems similar to what you are having though. I need to power-cycle the unit and sometimes even the STB to get things back working. I am running Sage on WHS and I do not have to do anything to it - so I suspect it is all hardware/driver issues.
My D2 went to a black screen today. I can tell you that it was NOT hot at all.
I am wondering if there is any relation to the audio hookups with this issue?
My boxes are running optical SPDIF cables - is that what everyone with this issue is using?
I am tempted to try analog audio to see if this 'problem' goes away - I kind of think it will.
My C2 units were real bad - I had a timer powerbar that shut them off along with the stb's for one hour in the morning - it seemed to help somewhat but it did not eliminate the problems. These new units seem slightly better but the black screen syndrome is really quite unpredictable and very annoying.
Please keep this thread going with suggestions!

As for an update....The seperation between the cable box and the HDPVR has kept the HDPVR from freezing ever since. May be on to something here.

i rhink my HDPVR just died. Sage cannot record from it and now TME does not see it. I power cycled it (leaving it unplugged over night) and I get a windows erroe that the usb device has issues. I don't see the amber lights when the power is cycled. Any ideas?

Just wanted to add my voice to the choir. 'Just received a C2 & hooked it up on Saturday. I'm not using digital audio and the sucker has frozen up twice so far (in <24 hours). I am also having an issue when changing channels (using LM Remote). If I change by entering the numbers on the remote, the channel changes, but the new channel comes in black & white and slow motion... very strange. I can use the channel up/down buttons and things seem ok. Recording a show also seems to cause problems from time-to-time, Sage freezes on playback & I have to kill it from Taskmgr.

I installed the latest drivers from Hauppage's site, but no change. I'm going to see about returning it and stick with my Dvico card.
