STV Client gives me decent LiveTV, but it fails to provide audio for any of my "media center" files (AVI rips of my DVD collection.)

Placeshifter has the exact opposite problem! It plays everything in the "media center" perfectly, but LiveTV is lousy. Sometimes the video is choppy (even with a video buffer size of 32000000), but the persistent problem is the video lagging the audio. Tweaking the audio delay on the SageTV server screws up LiveTV on the server... is there a way to improve Placeshifter quality on the Mac, and also a way to sync the LiveTV audio without messing up the SageTV server?

I don't use Placeshifter, but did you upgrade your Placeshifter client to 6.5.11? There were audio/video sync issues on the Mac side that were not fixed until the 6.5.11 beta release.

I use the Mac client (and the Mac server, 6.5.11 for all), and so far have not had any problems playing back files in the Media Center. Most of what I have are AVI files, but that alone is not enough to define the type of encoding used.

I do still get some choppy video on live tv with the Mac Client. I have reported this with a bug report. I reduced my quality to 'Fair', and watch in a window about quarter size of my screen, and it works pretty well. If I increase quality, or increase the size of the window, it gets pretty choppy.

I think this is still an mplayer issue on Mac. I don't seem to see the same problem with live TV on my PC client.

do the avi files play alright outside of SgaeTV client?

remember, Placeshifter uses the server to transcode everything, so it relies on the server's CODECs. Client relies on installed CODECs on the client machine.
