not sure exactly what triggered it... but I upgraded to the latest beta. Then tried playing a DVD and had no sound, so I had to change my playback device and it started working, but then it killed all streams that did not have digital audio. No matter what settings I tried I could not get sound ot play on SD streams.

So, I tried rolling back to 6.5.3, and now I have no sound on ANY types of audio. No combination of codec setting will get it to work.

I also tried updating my audio drivers as well as reinstalling DirectX and still no fix.

Audio works fine in all other applications... but SageTV just does nothing.

I'm at a loss for what else to try.

Try turning up the volume control in Sage. It probably got reset to zero.

There is volume control in Sage?? Where??

Isn't this just linked to the normal Windows volume control, which is working perfectly in every other app?

The volume control is in the OSD when you are playing a file. Click on the screen when a video is playing and the volume control is on the lower left corner. SO it would depend on how your audio card is configured and whether Sage is controlling the system or master volume.

I would be interested in what causes this because I have had this happen several times on my server, and recently on a client machine and the only way that could fix it was a clean install of Sage and then trying to remember all the setting changes and which plugins I had.

The client machine was rebooted without exiting Sage first and that's when I didn't get any sound, I know it was not the file because I could play the same file on the Sage server and it played fine with sound.

So this is the question - Why do we loose sound after rebooting computer without exiting Sage first?

I would be interested in knowing this myself. I seem to lose sound more frequently than just on reboots though, like when I simply minimize the application or if Sage crashes (admittedly mimicking the same conditions as a reboot). It never happens on Placeshifter, just on Client, and it happens on 2 computers that I've installed the Client version on. I connect to a WHS based Sage server with both clients and usually a Placeshifter laptop.

If we can't figure out why this is happening, how would I go about changing whether Sage is controlling the system or master volume for troubleshooting? Is this possible with Client?

These settings are in the Sageclient.properties file.
media_player_uses_system_mute=false
media_player_uses_system_volume=false
I can't remember the default value so change it to true or false and see if it behaves more like you want it too.

Thanks! That also fixed another problem I had on one of the computers where the volume control would be so sensitive that by the time you would lower it 2/3 of the way down it would be almost inaudible. This way it is much more uniform all the way through the range.

The only thing I dislike about this is that nothing displays onscreen when changing the volume.. But I seem to remember something about an onscreen volume display setting which never had any effect. Perhaps it will now? or maybe I'm thinking of something else..
