hdpvr issue, black bar at top of screen

Don't really know how to describe it other than all of my HDPVR recordings (HD and SD) seem to have a black bar across the top of the recording, what equates to about 3/4" on a 50" TV. I have my Starchoice STB set to output @ 720p, and I've tried using 1080i and still get the same result. I haven't yet plugged the STB direct into the tv, I might try that tomorrow. files from my pvr-150 card play all the way to the top of the screen, and I'm assuming it's not a sage problem as I experience the same issue when I tested with arcsoft's TME. I don't think it's hardware, as I just had my HDPVR replaced due to sound issues, and I remember it working properly at one point, so I don't know if it's a driver issue, or maybe something in the playback codec. Not a huge issue, more of an annoyance, but I figured I'd ask to see if anyone here has any ideas :)

wow, no replies....:(

anyway, I tried hooking the STB direct to the tv tonite, and it works fine, no black bar. I also tried updating to the latest beta driver and it's still the same. I unhooked and rehooked up the stb to the HDPVR and still the same issue. stupid thing is that I just got Hauppauge to replace my first HDPVR cause of audio issues, now this one is going to have to go back due to video problems unless someone has a better idea. there goes another $20 in shipping :(

Oh yea, one other thing, I tried using the HDPVR in TME, and it too has the black bar, so I'm pretty well convinced that it's not a Sage issue.

Don't return your hdpvr based on this, since the next one will have the same result. The DSR 505 component output has a bit of overscan, which you don't see via passthrough. You can workaround this in Sage by slightly modifying one of the aspect ratios (e.g. increase the size to 105% in both directions). This is kind of "by design".

after a little more tinkering today, and setting the STB to output whatever resolution the source is, I'm getting a slightly smaller black bar on top, and a sliver down the left when it's outputting 1080i, the same black bar at the top when it's doing 720p, and no bars when watching SD. Anyway, they are sending me a new STB due to an audio problem as well, so I'll try what you suggested in the meantime :)
