Wow, I'm getting spoiled if I'm asking for this! What I'd like is to be able to map two different levels of FF/REW to my remote. This way, I can have a minor skip for scanning through video, and a major skip for skipping commercials. Or, I could even set a major skip interval so that I can scan through a program in a few seconds.

Another nice feature would be a FF/REW function that becomes progressively faster the longer you hold down the button. These would be nice to have.

Since it'd take me about as long to add this to the code as it did for me to write this reply, I figure why not? :) I've been asked about that a bunch of times before anyways, I think even Dan's bugged me about it a few times.

Here here man that's about the one thing i have missed comming from the DVCR software is the multi speed fast forward. I kinda liked 60x and faster over 2x which to me seems like 1x without sound. I think the DVCR can do 360x but i haven't used faster than 60x much so im not real sure about that.

One thing though that i kinda noticed on my bro's tivo that isn't in the DVCR software fast forward is a jog back of a few seconds when comming out of fast forward. Basicly when viewing fast forward on the tivo and you see the show starting back up if you hit play it jogs back a few seconds to before the point you hit play so it starts at just about the point the commercial ends and the show comes back on. I think this would be just the coolest feature, Otherwise you miss the first few seconds of that part of the show. I don't know about others but i always feel i have missed something if i miss any part of a show so im definatly in favor of something like this.

Definitely agree. As someone suggested in another post, I've set my REW and FF to different amounts, because I almost always REW after scanning through commercials.

I think the skip-back after coming out of fast FF or REW in TiVo is fantastic as well.

It takes a bit of getting used to if you're used to an old fashioned VCR because you tend to hit the play button as soon as you see your program starting (and then have to manually back up a bit), when you really need to wait about 1/2 a second before hitting play and then the TiVo will take you back to the start of the program.

Really cool once you get the hang of it. (Especially since the TiVo fast FF is faster than most VCR's 'viewing' FF)

Yeah i know thats the one thing i was kinda envious of my brother for that little feature. So i would love to finally have that in Sagetv just to put that little demon to rest so to speak. ;)

Jeff if this could be done as well i would worship you as my new GOD. Well kidding but i would be most greatfull indeed if you did this. Please Please please :jump:

There's another thread somewhere that I discuss the complexities of doing something like variable speed ff/rew in detail.....can't remember where it is though.

It'd be nice to have a real FF instead of a 10 second skip. Even if it were only fixed speed.

It can't be that tough because the "other guys" do it.

The ex-Tivo guys will have trouble without it.

(I know the skip time is editable - but what if something good happens during those 9 seconds?)

I used to record my hockey and basball games and watch them at 2x and slow it down when I see good stuff. With the strike it's been a bit easier.

I haven't been able to find this editable value since 2.2.3 :(

Where are you looking? Do you mean any of these properties:

ui/time_scroll_amount
videoframe/ff_time
videoframe/ff_time2
videoframe/rew_time
videoframe/rew_time2

They are all still in use, but I don't remember which ones are not already in the properties file by default. I think if you try to use the command, the property will be created if it doesn't exist.
