I'm currently using Squeezebox Server, webfeedencoder, virtual audio cable and the SlimPlayer plugin just to get streaming XM/Sirius radio (PC + extender). This is quite a hack, uses tons of resources and is not 100% reliable.

While looking for a more straight forward solution, I ran across XMTuner.
http://www.xmtuner.net/

Is anyone currently using this? It seems to work well, generating a web streaming link/feed for each channel (ie-http://localhost:19081/feeds/). It also has an RSS feed. Is there a way (even manually editing a file) to add some of these to Sage's online menu (or something similar) which will work on an extender too?

This is very interesting and I am definitely interested in hearing what people have to say about this. Only downfall for me on this is yet ANOTHER location for music. I LOVE slimplayer because it puts everything in one place...pandora, sirius, slacker, network music, etc...

I just noticed that XMTuner has built-in support for linking to TVersity. So, maybe EvilPenguin's PlayOn plugin which runs off UPnP would support this.

nothing much to say except I'd love to see this work!

I contacted PlayOn about XM/Sirius support since they just added Pandora recently. They responded: "we do have plans to look into this in the future". I would rather have a nice and direct approach to SageTV integration which included channel graphics and song titles/artists. However, PlayOn does have a bunch of plugin documentation, templates and such. It's obvious that they are trying to make it easy to write plugins.

I tried out TVersity yesterday with no good results. A lot of crashing of XMTuner and it never successfully added all the XM channels to TVersity. No matter what, I could never get a channel to play through TVersity. Everything plays fine when directly using the XMTuner GUI. Although I got some random crashes when using VLC to play the streams, it did also work.

The XM/Sirius site streams 128kbps WMA audio. Does any know if the HD200 extender can handle this natively when in SageTV mode?

It looks like SiriusXMStreamer is another software package which does the same thing (minus the Windows service functionality).

Although the Streamer link you posted is cool, is it really any better than SlimPlayer? I have been talking with Koelec a bit over on the slimplayer forum and it sounds like he has plans to try an incorporate the slimplayer into the EPG...so tuning your sirius/XM,pandora,slacker, etc. will be as easy as selecting the channel from the EPG....

That's an easy answer. No, the streamer is not better since it does not have any integration into SageTV. SlimPlayer is the only way I can get XM/Sirius right now. I like SlimPlayer just fine and if there was a way to get around the transcoding step and stream directly to extenders, my search would be over. The need to use VAC and webfeedencoder is really the non-savory part of the process.

Just wanted to bring this back up to the top of the forums...does anyone know if there are plans to create a native Slimplayer integration/plugin for V7 that will make it easier for us mere mortals to get it working? I don't have an extra pvr 150 lying around for the audio loopback and a simple installable plugin would do wonders....we could then listen to slacker/pandora/sirius...with hopefully artist/station artwork....

are any programmers working on this?

I have XM working all via software using SiriusXMStreamer and Tversity (free version) and a plugin (I think it is the playon plugin, but not completely certain). It works to my clients and to the extenders. Only thing I don't like about it is having to go a few menus deep into the Upnp servers list to get to the channels.

Do you get song title/artist info with this approach?

No I don't think so. If you use the slimplayer approach does it display the artist/song info?

No. I'm using SlimPlayer now, but have considered the UPnP approach too. I really want something with song info.
