Placeholder for future post updates: The latest changes for the malore menus can be found here: Hidden feature changes in v6.2.6 & in further update posts. And a new test version can be downloaded here: Test version 6.3.6.0b; January 10, 2008.
The latest test version can be downloaded here: Test version 6.5.13.8a; April 6, 2009.

There are some 'secret' extras in the default SageTV7.XML (v7.0 and later). The features are listed below. (The extras in the older SageTV3.XML STV for v7.0 & earlier are described here.) To copy & update the information for version 7...

IMPORTANT
Since these extra features are not supported by SageTV's technical support, there are a few points to remember:
If you run into a problem with any of the extras, do not submit a bug report or contact tech support about any unofficial feature. It will just discourage allowing additional secret features from being added... or mentioned. You can mention a problem in this thread.

Before submitting a bug report, make sure you have disabled the extra features and tested again. This is intended to make sure the problem is with SageTV's supported feature set rather than some sort of add-on.

While requests to change these extras can be posted in this thread, there is no guarantee that a request will be acted upon or even acknowledged. They are only modified as spare time allows, depending on what the author finds useful.

Finally: do not submit a bug report regarding any of the extras. If we keep things real quiet, the folks at SageTV won't even know these features exist and we can keep them in the STV!

HOW TO ENABLE THE EXTRAS
Enabling or disabling the extras is real simple... go to System Information and enter four digits in a row:

5309

You will notice that a small dot appears in the upper left corner. That dot indicates that the extras have been enabled. To disable the extras, enter 5309 again. (System Information is accessible from Setup -> System Information, or just use the Info command while on the Main Menu.)

THE UNOFFICAL FEATURE SET
The extra features are configured at Setup -> Detailed Setup -> Customize, then scroll down until you see the section titled Unsupported Extras. You can set:

SageTV Recordings Style - select from the default menu or malore's custom 2-pane menu.

Recording Schedule Style - select from the default interleaved, by day, & parallel styles, or malore's custom 2-pane menu.

Add links to malore's custom menus on the Main Menu - Yes/No; if Yes, links to the malore custom menus will be available under the TV section of the Main Menu.

Malore Menu Options - Select "Configure" to set some options for malore's menus.
Configure Watched & Partial Bars - enable or disable these bars to show how much of a show you have watched or how much of a show has been partially recorded. Note: If these bars are enabled, they will also be used on the standard menus.
Action After Selecting Airing - choose what happens when you use the Select command on an airing in the list: Smart, which chooses an action appropriate for the current menu; Display Options, which opens the options dialog for the airing; or Do Nothing: selecting the airing does nothing.
Malore Menu Font Size - sets the font size for the custom menus.
Custom Additional Airings - If enabled, the malore custom menus will be used when additional airings are viewed.
Additional Display Options - allows configuring the following additional options:

Icon and Alternate View Bars - Choose whether to use the Icon and/or Alternate View left/top bars.
Upper Info Area Style - Choose whether the menu's upper area displays the airing information using malore's style or the standard style used by the default menus.
Outline Manual Recordings and Favorites - Choose whether Manual Recordings and Favorite airings are outlined or not.
Draw lines separating items in the lists - Turn horizontal lines between list items on or off.
Draw category colors behind airings - Choose whether category colors are shown behind airings all the time (Always), behind all airings except those using the default category color (Exclude Default), or not at all (Never).

Wrap-Around Scrolling - configure whether the lists wrap when scrolling at the start or end of the lists.

Menu Footer Disk Space Bar Options - Choose Configure to enable/disable the disk space bar shown in the footer for every menu and to configure some options for that bar.

Program Guide marks First Runs - Choose whether to show a small dot of the same color as the First Run marker's background on the left-hand side of all First Run show entries in the Program Guide grid.

Program Guide marks HDTV - Choose whether to show a small dot of the same color as the HDTV marker's background on the left-hand side of all HDTV show entries in the Program Guide grid.

One Touch Filtering & Searching - Choose Configure to set the options for Quick Filtering and One Touch Searching. (See below for details.)

Date Display Style - Choose whether the date display contains the full Day Name + Date + Time, or just the Day Name + time.

Default Favorite Settings - Define default settings to be used when creating a new Favorite.

Default Manual Recording Settings - Define default settings to be used when creating a new Manual Recording.

All search screens that show immediate results (such as Search by Title) now have an option to Search using One Touch Numeric Text Input. Thanks to an idea and sample code from nielm, you can use NTE on these screens with the results list showing everything that the NTE characters could possibly match. The search field will show the text found in the first result and the NTE hint line will show the first few possible matches for the input so far.

Example: To search for "The", you just have to enter '843' instead of '84433'.

This can be enabled/disabled via the Options menu on the search screens where it is available.

The Music, Photos, and Imported Videos menus have "Extra" options available via the pop-up Options menu. Among the possible choices:
Quick Filter with One Touch Numeric Text Input - When viewing a long list of items, start entering the name of an item via letters or numbers. The list will be filtered to show only the items containing the text entered. (Normal setting: jump to the next item that starts with the number/letter entered.)
Search using One Touch Numeric Text Input - As described above, searches find all items that NTE input could spell.

Added views for Partial Recordings. To view all the partial recordings, click on the disk space bar at the bottom of a menu, then click on the text describing how many partial recordings there are (hidden hot-spot for a mouse click). You can also go to TV -> Partial Recordings on the Main Menu or use Options -> Partial Recordings from a SageTV Recordings menu.

Your current SageTV Recordings Style menu will be used to list the partial recordings. Make that selection in Detailed Setup -> Customize. The partial recordings can be grouped & sorted like any other set of recordings.

In Detailed Setup -> Customize -> Malore Menu Options, if you enable Watched & Partial Bars, a red & green bar to indicate what section(s) of each show are recorded will be shown on top of each airing listed in any menu listing recordings or just on the Partial Recordings menu.

Additional items in the pop-up video or group options menu:
When viewing Partial Recordings, the pop-up video options menu includes an option to delete all eligible partials. Some partials, such as currently recording shows, are not deleted.
Added total file size to the video & group of videos pop-up option dialogs.

The malore menus display an Alternate Views bar above the airings list. The number of alternate views can be configured for a menu by using the Options command. Each alternate view can be named and have separate settings for grouping, filtering, and sorting styles. Use the Smooth FF/REW and FF2/REW2 commands to easily switch between the alternate views. Check the Malore Menu Options for turning the Alternate Views Bar on or off.

The malore menus have an icon bar to the left of the airings list. Check the Malore Menu Options for turning the Icon Bar on or off.

The malore menus can also:

use double-height rows for the right pane or both panes
configure the Episode List Style
filter by multiple categories
filter by channel
use from 1 up to 8 views per malore style menu
configure the right hand episode listing style
use the standard style for the upper info area
... and so on.

The custom malore Premieres, Finales, & Specials menu has options to show various types of premieres, finales, and other specials.

Default Favorite and Manual Recording Settings are in Detailed Setup -> Customize. Use these options to define certain default settings to be used when creating a new Favorite or Manual Recording, such as padding times and recording quality.

The malore & standard SageTV Recordings and Recording Schedule menus have links to each other in the Options slide-out for easy access to both.

Added Detailed Setup -> Customize option for "Use Enhanced Recording Deletion Confirmation Dialog"; controls whether the malore deletion confirmation dialog is used everywhere or only when in a malore menu.

Added Detailed Setup -> Customize option for "Program Guide marks non-Zap2it Channels". When enabled, channels with non-Zap2it station IDs are marked with a red dot in the Program Guide. The option is not available when using an EPG plugin.

Use the numbers 1 - 0 to jump to % positions in lists for the malore menus along with the SageTV Recordings, Search Results, Interleaved & By Day Recording Schedule, Favorites Manager, and Browse by Category menus. Number 1 jumps to the first item in the list, 0 jumps to the last item, and 2-9 jump to points in between.

STV developers can send "ViewNumber" to a malore menu via AddStaticContext() before jumping to the menu in order to specify which view is to be shown. If not used, then the last-used view will be shown.

Generate thumbnails for imported videos (non-DVD/BD): Detailed Setup -> Customize -> Add option to generate thumbnail during imported video playback while paused. When that option is enabled, the playback menu's options dialog has an option to generate a thumbnail for a non-DVD/BD imported video while playback is paused.

New or Updated for Version 7.0.13/14:

Did the initial conversion for the malore menus to use the new v7 style and to palce the disk space bar in the menu footer.
Removed "Single Thumbnails can Overlap Titles" option because it isn't used any more.
Removed XML and commercial skip options since they aren't in the malore menus any more.
Removed Detailed Setup -> Customize option for 'Set Background Image' because it isn't currently used and users can customize BGs for any menu by using the 'User Images' folder under the current theme folder.
Added malore menu options to 1) draw separator lines between items, 2) draw outlines around Manual Recordings & Favorites, 3) draw airing category background colors always, not the default category color, or never.
Updated malore menu focus highlight image - MaloreHighlight.png
Updated malore menu font styles for right-side episode lists & upper info area. Bold titles for Fav/MR; Italic for Watched; Plain text for all else.

New or Updated for Version 7.0.15:

Malore menus can have up to 8 views; previously was 6.
Can use numbers 1-0 to jump to % position in list for SageTV Recordings, Search Results, Interleaved & By Day Recording Schedule, Favorites Manager, Browse by Category, and TV Show Editorials menus.
Don't include channel previews when updating the Disk Space Bar.

New or Updated for Version 7.0.16:

Fixed channel number sort for malore menu left pane.
Added channel filter for malore menus and removed the old movies-only channel filter.

New or Updated for Version 7.0.17:

STV developers can send "ViewNumber" to a malore menu via AddStaticContext() before jumping to the menu in order to specify which view is to be shown. If not used, then the last-used view will be shown.
Fixed "Premieres, Finales, Specials" malore menu to perform its forced duplicate filter after other filters have been applied. Also disabled the "Remove Duplicate Airings" option for this menu since duplicates are always removed.
Stopped filtering empty items from the malore Program Guide menus, other than "No Data" entries.
Changed Detailed Setup -> Customize option for Custom Menus to 'Add links to malore's custom menus on the Main Menu'; controls whether any malore menu items are added to the Main Menu, not just the Custom Menus submenu.
Added malore menu option to group by past, present, and future airings. This grouping option is most useful when using the malore menus for Future & Past Airings, i.e.: when the "Custom Additional Airings" option is enabled.
Can use numbers 1-0 to jump to % position in list for TV Show Editorials menu.
The Disk Space Bar can be configured to look ahead up to 360 hours instead of 200. That covers the full 2 weeks of EPG data that can be used for scheduling.

New or Updated for Version 7.1.3:

Added Detailed Setup -> Customize -> Add option to generate thumbnail during imported video playback while paused. When enabled, the playback menu's options dialog has an option to generate a thumbnail for a non-DVD/BD imported video while playback is paused.

Misc Additional note(s):

This thread is essentially a copy of the one for the pre-version 7 default STV. Any issues using the hidden extra features in version 7's default SageTV7.xml STV should be posted in this topic.

The hidden features in the older SageTV3.xml STV will not be updated and are described in the old hidden features topic.

The SageTV V7.0.13 Beta now has an initial conversion of the malore menus (still a few things to be changed, though) and the disk space bar is now available on every menu in the footer. Note that you can adjust the width of the disk space bar if you find it to be too wide or narrow.

Just thinking out loud here, but would it make sense to migrate these features into a UI Mod plugin? "Andy's Unsupported Extras" or whatever you want to call it. That way you wouldn't have to remind people how to turn them on and off for troubleshooting; the normal plugin UI would take care of it.

The initial migration probably wouldn't be too hard; just delete everything under "If unsupported" and save the result as the new base STV to compare against. Not sure how much of an added maintenance burden this would be going forward, though, compared to keeping it in the base STV.

Anyway, just a thought. If this is too far off-topic for this thread, feel free to move/edit/delete this post as appropriate.

Looks really good. I'm not sure exactly what navigation I did but found this in my logfile:Thanks -- I know where it is, now I just need to reproduce it & I'll fix it.

tmiranda: Please let me know what malore menu type you were using and how it was configured for grouping, filtering, and sorting so I can try to match it. I haven't been able to get the same error in the log so far.

Oh, and do you have any customizations that affect the malore menus?

Andy,

No customizations were installed. I'll look up the settings tonight when I get home but I suspect they are all default. The issue occured on my test system (Linux) and I try to keep that very vanilla.

I didn't dig in too deeply but when I am first in a Malore Menu TV Recordings and hit Options, on the right side of the screen the default first and second menu position looks strange. That is the first menu choice is actually blank and the second one says "null". These may be View choices? Not sure. Nice job on redoing the malore menus for SageTV 7 also. I can get more info later on tonight.

Andy, just wanted to say THANKS for the bottom disk space menu bar. I had been missing that since V6 and the plugin that did use it in V7 doesn't work quite right for the REC indicator so I hadn't been using that plugin and have been "flying blind" (well, lazy blind because I know how/where to get that info LOL) for a while. Anyways, thanks much for that... very nice! :goodjob:

Andy,

I'm getting periodic hangs in the UI using the malore menus. I've got a few plugins loaded, but none of them are really new.

In the attached log I turned on an extender at 17:00. At 17:00:14.682 the hang starts and at 17:01:41.058 it's really stuck. Another hang starts at 17:27:34.222.

Any clues you can see in here?

I haven't looked at the log yet, but is it the same exceptions that you listed previously? If so, those can cause a delay until it gets worked through. I'm trying to get an STV update ready within a couple days.

How's your Java heap? Is it maxing out?

You've got quite a few plugins active... is one of them calling Refresh() repeatedly? Try running w/o any plugins. I see the airings list for the malore menu being recreated over & over & over & over & ... but that doesn't happen on my system (so far, anyway). Something causing multiple refreshes is my best guess at the moment, but until I can reproduce that on a malore menu here, I don't know what might be causing it. If you have a way to reproduce it w/o any plugins, let me know.

The log also complains about a syntax error that isn't in the default STV:
Color = 0xE40033

Set this property to help find syntax errors when an STV is loaded:
preload_expression_cache=true

The only time I see long load times for one of the malore menus on my system is when there are thousands of airings, such as for one of the Guide menus or Viewing History, but that has always been the case because there are so many airings to process. But, I don't see long airing processing times in your log; just a couple hangs & the airing list processing happening many times.

Andy,

Java Heap is OK.

I saw the list getting created over and over as well but AFAIK that was just from scrolling down the list of shows. I'll see if it happens without any plugins.

I know about the Color = 0xE40033 error, that's actually from one of my plugins

Andy,

I just confirmed that the airings list getting created over and over is normal behavior if you have the focus on the left column and press the down button. It does that without any plugins loaded.

It does that without any plugins loaded. That doesn't happen for me either. Could you post the properties file for that UI? If an extender, I would need the server's properties file too. I want to see all the config settings for the malore menus to see if I can match what you see. And, what menu is this happening on - just the recordings list or all malore style menus?

Andy,

It happens on my SageClient as well so I've attached the properties file for that. I didn't attach the server .properties file, let me know if you need it.

It happens on all of the custom menus that I tried. I just used the down arrow while the focus was on the left pane.

I don't see anything obvious in the properties file in terms of differences in our malore menu configuration settings -- none of the differences I saw caused the issue to happen on my system.

There are lots of plugins in the properties & log files, though. Could you try the client w/o any plugins and perhaps even with a new properties file (just backup the old one & then rename the original). I still can't get any of my clients to have the problem.

Does anyone else using the malore menus see repeats of these types of lines in the log file after using the up/down arrow while the left side panel has focus?

Edit....

It appears that this happens the first time you go into the the malore menu after a restart of the client.... After you get the errors you can back-out using back then everything works fine.

I attached a debug log.... in which I got errors when I restarted the client and went into malore.... after i backed out and came back all is well.

Andy,

It's something in the properties file. I moved the existing properties and .bak file out of the directory and let the client rebuild it from scratch. Afterwards the Airings list was only created once.

I'll see if I can narrow it down further.

nyplayer - See if deleting the properties and properties.bak file help on your system. (Make a backup or course.)

Tom,

Even with a new property file and no plug-ins when I initially go into malore it is slow as molasses... I get the errors. If i back-out all the way to the main menu and come back in after that it works fine.

I did some more debugging and it does happen with a fresh .properties file. I tried your trick of backing out of the malore menu to the main menu and that did cause the list creation to stop. (After getting a whole bunch of nullpointer exceptions that we already know about.)

I'm going to try that on my extenders to see if I can reproduce it there.

Is it possible for me to just turn on the diskbar? Is it just a property file setting?

Opus4

tmiranda & nyplayer: Thanks for the extra testing. I can now reproduce it, so I can look into it more. It only happens the first time you go into the menu, so if going up/down on the left side is slow, just exit & re-enter the menu for now. (Edit: or arrow right, then go back to the left column.)

Is it possible for me to just turn on the diskbar? Is it just a property file setting?Since it is part of the hidden extras, you first have to turn them on, then go to the bottom of Detailed Setup -> Customize & configure what you want.

Now that I could reproduce the multiple refresh slowdown, it has been fixed & will be in the next STV update. For now, you can get around the issue by simply arrowing right & then return to the left column the first time you enter the menu.

Note: the STV version 7.0.14.0, file set 2010080901, update fixes the above issues & makes further changes to the hidden feature set:

Hidden: Removed "Single Thumbnails can Overlap Titles" option because it isn't used any more.
Hidden: Removed XML and commercial skip options since they aren't in the malore menus any more.
Hidden: Fixed display of alternate view names in malore menu slide out options.
Hidden: Removed Detailed Setup -> Customize option for 'Set Background Image' because it isn't currently used and users can customize BGs for any menu by using the 'User Images' folder under the current theme folder.
Hidden: Added malore menu options to 1) draw separator lines between items, 2) draw outlines around Manual Recordings & Favorites, 3) draw airing category background colors always, not the default category color, or never.
Hidden: Solved exception error in log when using malore menu.
Hidden: Updated malore menu focus highlight image - MaloreHighlight.png
Hidden: Updated malore menu font styles for right-side episode lists & upper info area. Bold titles for Fav/MR; Italic for Watched; Plain text for all else.
Hidden: Solved excessive refresh issue when using a malore menu for the first time.

I guess that means that when you release the dynamic menus in beta 16 they won't be considered unsupported then, right? ;)

Is there a way to remove the "Customized Recordings" menu from under TV -> Recordings without disabling all of the extras?

I have the SageTV Recordings Style set to Default in the configuration. Under v6 this would have allowed me to use the standard Sage TV recordings screens instead of malore. Now, it seems like I have to always see both in the menus.

The same is true for "Partial Recordings" and "Recording Schedule". There's no obvious way to turn off the "Customized Schedule" and "Custom View" options in the configuration (without disabling everything).

My use case for enabling the "custom menus" is just to get access to the Alternate Program Guide views and the "Specials, Premieres & Finales" view, but I'd like to get access to those with adding all of the other menu clutter. (And ideally those options would appear under the Program Guide menu - since they are all related to the Program Guide - not under a menu called "Custom Menus").

Is my only option today to edit the STV directly in Studio?

First off, the "ability" to rename SageTV Recordings views is at the top of page 37 of the "Version 6.6" manual .... :thumb: ("Document Revision 6.6-B" is shown a the bottom of the first page of the one I'm looking at).

The pictures do not show the more "vertical" style of the v7 SageTV Recordings list style. The v6.6 style looks like the Malore recordings.

My question about renaming the views...

I can get the "standard" v7 view custom names to show on the main menu under the TV->Recordings area, but how do I get the Malore custom views to show up there instead?

Secondly, great job on the new "user defined categories" feature!

My user defined categories/custom view suggestion...

I am using Malore style recordings. I have these "custom" views:

Main | Hers | His | Archived

and have applied "his" and "her" recordings views where only "her" shows populate in her view, and vice versa.

My suggestion is it would be great to have some sort of "radio" button to the right of the name of each view that "lights" up when new shows have been recorded in each custom view! (similar to the way recent new recordings show up as green text in the Malore recordings) :D This way my wife would know when a new "Real Housewives" has recorded, and I would know when I have a new "Top Gear".

I can get the "standard" v7 view custom names to show on the main menu under the TV->Recordings area, but how do I get the Malore custom views to show up there instead? There are several malore style menus & each one can now have up to 8 views... I don't think I want to try having them all get listed individually. Once in a menu, you can quickly change views via the FF2/REW2 commands.

My suggestion is it would be great to have some sort of "radio" button to the right of the name of each view that "lights" up when new shows have been recorded in each custom view! (similar to the way recent new recordings show up as green text in the Malore recordings) :D This way my wife would know when a new "Real Housewives" has recorded, and I would know when I have a new "Top Gear".It would have to run through the entire series of filters & settings for every view, so this won't be feasible.

A) In "Favorite Defaults Settings", I have "Start Time" set to "1 minute earlier". In "Default Manual Recording Settings", I have "Inherit Favorite Settings" checked. When I manually set a show to record in the Program Guide, the "Schedule to Record" start time is the same as the "Aired On" start time. The "Schedule to Record" start time should be 1 minute early, but it is not.

B) If I set the "Default Start Time" under "Default Manual Recordings Settings" to start 1 minute early, when I manually set a recording in the Program Guide, the "Schedule to Record" start time is 1 minute earlier than the "Aired On" start time. This works correctly.

When I use option B with back to back recordings on the same channel, I get a recording conflict. In the program guide when I manually tell SageTV to record the first show, the "Schedule to Record" start time is 1 minute earlier than the "Aired On" start time. When I manually tell SageTV to record the second show, SageTV tells me the second recording conflicts with the first recording. The recording should not conflict since I have "Stop Time" set to "On Time".

Instead of manually recording the back to back shows, I told SageTV to record the shows as a favorite. The result is the recording conflict does not occur and the first show starts 1 minute early.

I just tried A & B and had no issues with having the Fav's padding inherited by the new MR, regardless of whether the default MR options included any default padding. If you have more info about how to reproduce what you saw, let me know.

Regarding back to back recordings: only Favorites have an option to remove padding on back to back airings on the same channel; this does not apply to Manual Recordings and is one reason why the default MR options dialog includes this comment: "Note: If default padding is enabled for Manual Recordings, or padding is inherited from Favorites, there may be a higher chance of scheduling conflicts when trying to create a new Manual Recording."

Oh -- and if you turn off the Fav padding inheritance, it will ask whether to inherit the Fav's padding. (This is a standard feature that is overridden by automatically inheriting the Fav padding.)

Possible bug.

I created a view called Unwatched choosing the Unwatched filter and setting it. While in this view I completely watch a recording to the end and when finished I'm back in the view. But the recording is not marked Watched. If I go out of Recordings and back into the Unwatched view it is still not marked Watched. I have to set the Watched status myself and then the recording disappears from the view.

The malore menus don't manage Watched status; the core does that. I'm not sure what would cause a recording to not be marked watched after completely watching it.

I'm thinking of changing over to the malore recordings screen. The one thing holding me back is that I can't figure out how to change the sort order of the left side. I want the left to be sorted the same way it is in the default recordings screen (i.e., have the top be the group with the most recent recording). I'm sure there must be a way to accomplish this. Could I get pointed in the right direction?

I was thinking "Inherit Favorite Settings" applied to all manual recordings. I understand now. "Inherit Favorite Settings" is used when a recording is converted from a favorite to a manual recording.

I also understand now that if I have manual default recording "start time" set to "1 minute ealier" and record a show at 6:00pm-7:00pm, SageTV starts the recording at 5:59pm. The second recording 7:00pm-8:00pm causes a conflict because SageTV can not start the second recording at 6:59pm because of the first recording.

No, there isn't a way to sort the group list other than by the groupings themselves (or reversed sorting).

The v7.0.16 beta contains a couple more changes since the last v7.0.15 STV update:

Fixed channel number sort for malore menu left pane.
Added channel filter for malore menus and removed the old movies-only channel filter.

The updated channel filter can be set separately per view while the old movies-only channel filter was a single filter that affected every Upcoming Movies view. The new filter can be used on any malore menu, not just Upcoming Movies, so it could be used on the custom Guide menus to see just your favorite channels or to hide only your most despised ones.

Andy,

I'd like to make one small suggestion that is strictly cosmetic. I think the menus would look better if the view name were highlighted by the same color used in the main header (light blue) vs. the current darker blue. To me it would just tie things together a little more by reusing the same colors rather than using a different shade of the same color.

Then again, I may just be watching too many of my wife's HGTV shows :)

You can change the BG color to anything you want via a new theme or the "User Images" folder in your current theme.

I've searched the UI and read the first post in this thread and it's probably still right in front of me so I apologize in advance but I can't find what I'm looking for -- is it possible in the Malore menus to turn off the M and F icons in the right pane?

Also, and I know, new features are hard to come by (or maybe this is possible in a .properties file), is it possible to turn off the (number) in front of each entry in the left pane?

P.S. not sure if it was intentional but the .16 release seems to have sped up performance considerably too! Thanks!

Yes, obviously, I'm working on setting upyet more menus ;)

I'm not sure if this a bug with the Malore menus or with the guide data. I'm in the Premieres, Finales, and Specials section. I'm trying to filter by HDTV but almost nothing shows up. Interestingly, if I turn off all filtering, the SD premieres show up fine.

So, for example, the following SD channels / shows show up for premieres:

#3/KRCW:
Nikita/Pilot
The Vampire Diaries/The Return
90210/Senior Year, Baby
etc

These should also show up on channel #503, the HD version, but there isn't even an entry for that channel. Again, this is with all filtering off.

When I look at the guide for channel #503, Nikita and The Vampire Diaries both have HD and First-Run markers...

Bug maybe?

Also, possible glitch, if not, it's a suggestion.

Near the bottom of the Customize list in the Detailed Settings menu, there is a non-selectable line that says "Unsupported Extras".

After those settings, there are the plugin settings, but there is no title that suggests that that's what those are and you can't distinguish which is which.

Perhaps adding another line there that says "Settings for Installed Plugins" or something like that.

The v7.0.17 release Candidate contains several more changes:

In regards to: http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?p=448240&postcount=65

I'm still having an issue with the HD versions not showing up in Premieres, Finals, and Specials.

Current example:

"Hardcover Mysteries" on channel #123, Series Premier on 10/11. This is the SD version of the "I.D." Discovery channel.

The same item does not show up on channel #623 (and again, no entries show up for #623 at all), the HD version of the channel though it shows up if I select the airing on #123 and go to Additional Airings.

Same exact thing for South Park on #190 and #690 -- it doesn't appear in the listing for the HD (#690) airing.

I'm currently using RC2.

At this point, I'm very confused as to how this is supposed to work.

I'm not filtering anything. I would prefer that duplicates DO show up if that's the only way I'm going to see premieres, finales, and specials on HD channels that are either air after their SD counterpart or don't show up because the HD channel is always "after" the SD channel in the line up.

So, here's another example of what I'm talking about:

#122 SD channel has the Bugging Out series premiere, marked as season premiere, first-run

Nothing shows up for its HD counterpart (#622) in the Malore menu. However, the guide and the show details / program information have it marked as: HDTV, season premiere, first run. (Zap2it also shows this information, use zip code 97116 and choose frontier fios portland digital)

So what am I doing wrong that I can't view premieres on HD channels? Should I be filtering on HD? Then I'd have to have another one filter on SD and bounce back and forth to see if its an SD-only premiere? I'm probably missing something obvious?

Opus4
10-18-2010, 12:14 PM
I'm not filtering anything. Then that probably explains it -- if you want to make sure the HD airings are shown on that menu, then either filter to include only HD airings or create a new view on that menu & filter the new one to only list HD airings.

Or, just don't worry about it. If you set up a Favorite, SageTV will automatically prefer to record the HD airing instead of the SD one unless it can't due to conflicts.

I think I have figured out a way to replicate a navigation bug that involves the Malore menus.

Steps to reproduce:

1) Using the right arrow, navigate to TV / Custom Menus / Premieres, Finales, Specials (I'm assuming any of the Custom Menus could be selected)

2) From any of the menus, bring up the Options Menu, select Menu Options, change the name of the view, select close, and then close the options menu

3) Using the right arrow, navigate to a program in the right pane

4) Using the right arrow, bring up the Program Information

5) Use the left arrow to return to the previous Malore menu but instead wind up "Home".

Additionally, the navigation "history" seems to be reset -- using the right arrow to navigate into TV, Custom Menus isn't highlighted by default.

Not a big deal but a bit jarring...

I don't plan to take any width away from the description to add to the preview/thumbnail width, if that's what you mean.

The thumb/preview space on that menu is going to be affected by the number of rows you have it configured to use. Try increasing the number of rows on your menu - that will use some of the blank space below the description in your image & reduce the height of the preview area. On my screen with 15 rows & a font size of 12, the HD thumbs fit nicely.

This option is turned off by default, so to use it, you will first need to enable it in Detailed Setup. Then, while playing an imported video (not DVD or BD) that you want to create a thumb for, pause the video at the point you want to grab a frame for a thumb. Use the Options command and select Generate Thumb from Current Frame. Note that the thumb may not be from that exact frame, but could be form a point shortly before it, probably not more than a fraction to half a second.

If using the Malore-style menus for Future Airings (Additional Airings), it appears to display all airings (past, present, and future). I don't see any way to filter out the old airings.

If I remember correctly, the malore menus would previously only display the future or past, depending on what you wanted to see, but it now includes all airings and has added the option to group by "Past, Present, Future". OK - from your post, it sounds like what I am missing is the "Group by". I will have to look for that option when I get home tonight. Apparently it isn't grouping by this by default (at least not on my setup).

In the past, you are right that it separated the past and future. I would then set up different views within these where I either grouped by channel or title.

I was happy with how it worked before, but I can see how some might like to have everything in one menu.

I added a new filter option only for past/future airings views that allows including only the past/future airings. The option is ignored when using the "Past, Present, Future" grouping option, since by definition of that choice, they should all be shown. For all other past/future groping options, it is turned on by default. This will be in the next release. (edit: 'next' meaning after v7.1.5)

Any reason this doesn't work for DVD/BR I can understand DVDs but since sage already generates thumbnails for blu rays just curious why this won't work.I was told that the bluray thumb grabber isn't set up to grab a thumb from an arbitrary location. If the API call I use for this ever changes, then I'll update the hidden feature to allow it.

I know people have wanted to be able to sort airings by their season & episode numbers; now that the Zap2it EPG data includes those numbers for many series, I'm adding that option. This sort option really only works well when all airings in the list have those numbers. Older recordings w/o the season/episode info just use 0 as those numbers, so they fall back on sorting by original airing date, but end up listed in front of all the ones with season/episode values.

Since season/episode numbers seem more meaningful than the show ID number, I'm also switching it to display s#e# instead of the ID #### when the info is available. If sorting by Show ID, however, the ID number will be displayed, followed by the s/e numbers.

So, when the s/e info is not available for all recordings, sorting by original airing date is probably the better sort method than by s/e numbers -- you would end up with (hopefully) the correct order of the episodes with ID numbers for some airings & s/e numbers for those that have them.

I hope those changes sound reasonable.

Actually, I'm starting to have second thoughts about adding the option to sort by season & episode numbers. Does anyone really want that option to be available?

Unless you have the s/e info for all airings, it won't sort that well & sorting by original air date would be better. As long as the show ID numbers are replaced with "s#e#" when that info is available, sorting by orig air date should effectively be sorting by season & episode.

As you said the s & e numbers have more meaning. We watch and delete so it won't be long before all our shows have S & E. Since you asked I would like to have that option. If not enough people want it I can live without it. (If you want to call that living. :D )

I'm also in the watch and delete crowd so it won't be long before all my shows have the s & e info. Once I'm there sorting that way would be nice.

I don't care at all about Season and Episode information.

Provided the data is accurate, both sort options should end up with the same result, but I'll leave the s/e sort option.

In a perfect world, the S-E number order would be the same as the OAD order - but we know that isn't always the case... of course, in a perfect world, you'd have S-E numbers for everything also. Having the option to display S-E numbers if present would work well, but there's already a plugin to do so.. ;-)

There is possibly a more robust method possible.. but nothing would be foolproof. You could sort all the non-zero S-E numbers, and then insert the zero S-E numbers after the S-E having episode with the next older OAD... ;-) just trying to make work for you Andy... it may be the best alternative, though...

I already know how it could be done, but it would just add more processing time for very little, if any, benefit compared to simply sorting by orig air date. I'll leave that to a customization so you have something to do.

well, i won't be tackling it, though at the same time, I don't have any missing season and episode info (as I fix any missing parts with BMT or manual tweaking)... so i certainly wouldn't be caring one way or the other... but I wasn't the one concerned with the ramifications of the inconsistent sorting data.

Why the code "5309"? Couldn't the code have been "1234" or "7243" (sage)? Is there a reason why "5309" was selected for the code instead of a number that would be easier to remember?

Maybe it was someone's favorite song.

"867-5309/Jenny" is a song written by Alex Call and Jim Keller and performed by Tommy Tutone. Jenny has been covered by a number of artists, including Everclear, Foo Fighters, Less Than Jake, Mötley Crüe, Green Day, Bracket, Crease, and the Goo Goo Dolls.

Thanks. Maybe the next time I need it I will be able to remember it!

And there were people all over the country that had that number that suddenly started to get all kinds of strange phone calls. Looking for Jenny....

The phone companies took the number off of their lists of available numbers. Don't now if any of them have ever started using them again.

A couple of years ago some had one "for sale" on e-bay.

The existing option to use the malore menus for "Custom Additional Airings" currently only applies to viewing the Future or Past airings for a show. This is being updated to cover the listing of all search results when the option is enabled.

Future Airings - Get the Channel Logo but not the Channel Number.
Is there a means to get the Channel Number (either with or without Logo)?

I don't understand the question.

ok. I'll try to explain better, if that doesn't work, I'll see about getting a screenshot tonight.

When you view Future Airings and the 2 pane Malore window shows up, on the Right-Side (I have as 2 rows height),

On the right hand side, I see the Title/Episode icons (m/f, 1, w, etc) date/time then the channel logo (ie. the "eyeball" for CBS, black circle with ABC in it for ABC channels, etc) but in my case, I have multiple ABC channels from different cities (local, NY, LA).

Is there a means of seeing maybe the Call Letters and Channel Number instead of the Logo?

Some shows my wife cares about WHICH station she is recording a show from or if the weather forecast is going to be bad, might want to record the NY station instead of local so as to avoid the "weather alerts" scroll bars or interruptions.

Also, another question I got asked about the Malore Menus:
For Future Airings, Scheduled Recordings, etc, is there a means to have Row Numbers? Wife is used to checking the row numbers to determine if there are stuff above/below or if she has wrapped around (V6). I have V7 on a Test box and trying to get WAF high enough for me to upgrade the Prod to V7.

Is there a means of seeing maybe the Call Letters and Channel Number instead of the Logo?Channel logos are always shown if a logo exists for the station. And, with the built-in logos, there is often a logo, though it can be somewhat generic for a network, such as the same image for all ABC stations.

You could, however, provide custom logos for each station, as described in Appendix B of the PDF manual. That would make it easier to distinguish between different stations for the same network.

Hello,

I have been playing around with the 'upcoming movies' tool.

That tool uses the malore views.

In the view, I am grouping the movies by title.

When I do this, none of the sort methods seem to work other then sort by alpha.

For example, I change the sort method to by original airing date, and nothing changes in the display.

Does anyone have any info on this?

Thanks
Les
