Any idea why this wouldn't be functional? The slider is resting on "0", the mute icon works, but the slider is inoperable.
Using default audio renderer at the moment, but I've tried default direct sound device, and the ATI HDMI output (I have on-board ATI chipset).
Can't find anything here, which makes me think it's a selection error somehow. Audio works, and as I said, mute works as well. Just no up and down volume control.
note: Sage is getting audio via the HD-PVR via SPDIF, which is why I thought that may be the problem. However, this was the same way the system was wired under Sage 6.6, and I had control of the volume slider in Sage in that set-up

Am I seriously the ONLY person this is happening to? I checked the manual, but there were seven entries for the word "volume", non of which told a tale of it being "fixed", or un-adjustable. I have drivers for my ATI HDMI on-board chipset installed and working - could they be the culprit?
Any ideas would be appreciated

Define inoperable...
You can't move the slider up and down, or moving the slider up and down has no effect?
Do you have SPDIF passthrough enabled for AC3 and/or DTS?
If you are using a source for which you have SPDIF passthrough enabled the volume control has no effect. A digital stream is being passed through to whatever is at the other end of the HDMI cable....

Define inoperable: CAN'T move Slider up or down, but CAN Mute. Audio levels can't be raised or lowered via keyboard or software.
I had SPDIF passthrough enabled in XP with 6.6, however, I haven't manually installed AC3 in Windows 7.
I am supplying audio via a HD PVR, via SPDIF, to W7 and Sage 7.
Under XP, I did have SPDIF also, but was able to control Sage's audio level control. Was this due to AC3 being installed on XP?
What do I need for this to work again in W7?
thanks
I used to have the same behaviour on my system. I get audio via hdmi from my onboard nvidia 9300. After upgrading the nvidia drivers I now have a working volume slider.

ah... ok, maybe it's an ATI driver thing

Sounds like it may indeed be an ATI thing. Try updating drivers as suggested by Neo.
An older version (stable release) of AC3 Filter is installed when you install Sage, but by default it should not have SPDIF passthrough enabled.
If you use the intalled version of AC3 Filter, update to a newer one, or use FFDShow's audio codecs and enable SPDIF passthrough for DD/AC3/DTS sources, whenever one of those sources is being played the bitstream will just be passed along unchanged. Software volume changes should not have an effect, you would need to changge the volume on whatever the decoding device is. If you want changing the volume via the slider or windows volume control to have an effect, you should DISABLE SPDIF passthrough.
