View Full Version : repeatable crash bug again.. (playback)

I have the same bug right now as i had the other day... every time i select this recording it goes to the tv view, and then dies... explorer building its log (dunno where it builds that log to)
Last time i tried watching another show and that seemed to fix things tho my aspect ratio got messed up... I've left it recording and am at work now.. but if you want me to do something whilst its easily repeatable just tell me... sorry should this be on the beta forum!?
I've got it to happen 4 times in a row now.. I've played the mpeg of the show elsewhere and it plays fine... tho there is a fairly hefty mpeg glitch at the beginning close to where i assume the playback is and is crashing!??

If you want the log file, do a search for drwtsn32.log and you should find it. The log is appended, and if you have a very large file, you can just cut and paste the log entry for your particular event by going in and finding the last segment of the log which begins something like this:
Application exception occurred:
(your app id will likely be different)
Or, another way, the log file should be in the following folder by default (W2K): C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Documents\DrWatson
The other file that is important for Jeff is the sagetv_0.log files located in the SageTV folder.

thanks i will look when i get home for both... why the dialog box couldn't at least telling you
"application failed.. creating a log (here)" that'd be useful....
Cheers... I'm betting its something in the decoding (doh ;) if sage could have a debug option to actually bypass calls to the video and audio rendering you could be sure that it wasn't sage... if sage just read the dvd at playback rate without calling on decode

There may also be an hserrpid_xxx.log file in the Sage folder, that's useful too.
If Sage is crashing, I'd recommend trying a different audio or video decoder filter. Becuase usually that's what's crashing it. Which ones are you using?

Are the PIDs constant for a given app or allocated as programs are ran... no way of finding the app that crashed.. SageTVs PID at the moment is 1236...
I copied the
files following repeating the crash.. and before running SageTV again...
What files do you want... they have all zipped up to be 170k so i could easily email them all zipped..
I am using
Intervideo NonCSS Video Decoder for Hauppauge
Mpeg Audio Decoder
I have done the registry tweaks to enable hardware decoding with the intervideo codec... I could try some other codecs.. I have plenty... I usually use Sonic for DVD playback... Not really compared it with this one.. I DID like the improvements the registry tweaks made to it... Dunno how the others look compared.. Pity there are no options for the filters/decoders... like with Zoomplayer then you could be sure things were working how you wanted them to...
Just say you want it emailed and i'll send it when i can..

ohh and no
ok.. cripes there is a lot of log info :) I seem to be able to make out a lot of
functions in the stack traces for the thread IDs... not used to this stuff so can't really help you too much... not managed to find the one place where it died.. if there even is such a place.. I'm used to my own programs assert-ing or dying on invalid data in one place :)
