View Full Version : What is everyone using for movies?

Going along with the poll on MissingRemote I was wondering what everyone uses for movies and why.

I have been using Diamond + SMM (Thanks Plucky and team!!!) due to the filters in SMM but I don’t like being limited to cover flow. I’m limited to cover flow because I have different filters set-up for all our kids movies so I have SMM go directly to the filters screen to make it easy for our kids. I’m also wondering if all my filters are going to disappear when my 2500 point trial for MyMovies is up.

Looking into the Diamond movie options it seems I can set-up custom views similar to my filters in SMM by how I organize and filter my folders but chose the view I want for each.

I’m looking for the best way to give my kids easy and quick access to their movies.

What is everyone else using and how do you have it set-up?

I just use Diamond. I use to use SMM, but I really don't like the MM program itself. I'd rather not have third party apps running if Diamond, by itself, takes care of all my needs. I am also not sure how much updating Plucky is planning to do on SMM while Diamond has lots of activity right now and seems to have a bright future.

I use BMT for fanart/poster art. Once I figured out how to use it everything is a breeze now. It automatically scrapes metadata, and if it can't, I can just open up a web browser on any computer in the house, connect to the SageTV server, and update it myself from within BMT's web interface. This was a big plus for me. My SageTV server operates headless in a closet so doing things remotely is always good.

I'm using Diamond and SMM for the collection manager id sort.

The more I think about it this may be the way I go as well. Previously, before SageTV, I organized things by folder so if I can get the custom views to work right I think I will have the set-up I'm looking for.

ID sort within SMM or in collection manger?

Ditto to Biggen's post, exactly my thought as well and exactly how I use it.

Diamond with Mymovies. I think the fanart is better with mymovies and, for me, it just works. I also like the fact that TV management is now available.

BMT & Diamond. While I used MM and SMM for a while, it just didn't add anything I needed.

Looks like I may be back to Diamond + SMM. I have several multi disk/episode videos that show-up as individual items in Diamond. I want to be able to access them but don't want a bunch of the same posters filling-up my movie wall.

Yup. This is something SMM excels at doing and I wished Diamond could somehow incorporate...

ID sort within SMM.

You can configure SMM to show deferents folders. its on their wiki.

Diamond is not SMM and it doesn't use the MyMovies database so it won't incoporate that.

First of all, thanks for the awesome plug-ins. I would guess it would be near impossible to get multi-disk items to show-up as one item with-out the use of a database.

SMM is very nice...

I think we can all agree to that. But why do you think it is very nice?

I would Highly Recommend SMM !

Especially if you purchase some points for MYMovies. It handles everything very well. Cover Art, Backgrounds & all with just one plug-in.

Once you have Mymovies installed, all you need to do is add your movies & BAM! everything else just happens automatically!!

Once again THANK YOU PLUCKYHD for an Excellent plug-in !!
