i have a creative tuner and a pvr250 . Please tell me if this statement is correct: in order to view tv from both tuners at the same time you have to open two sagerecorder windows and play a stream through each. If this is true how do you make it so you can have to 2 shortcuts to open sagerecorder one opening into the pvr250 and one the creative cards?

thanks, alex

I have a similar question about dual tuner setup. Do i have to open two instances of sage recorder to schedule simultaneous recordings on different channels? I tried it that way this week and three of the ten recordings were short by thirty minutes. Im currently running two WinPvr 250 boards but they are different versions, maybe that is where the problem lies? Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Btw.....Love using SageRecorder and its well worth the money, but i just cant wait till you get SageTv coverage for my area.

Just make another copy of the SageRecorder folder (i.e. SageRecorder2) and run the other instance from there. That's it. :)

Now that we dropped the service fees for SageTV, you may want to try something to tide you over until we support your area...

If you choose another city/zip code close by (but in the same time zone) and choose either a Satellite lineup or another Cable lineup, you can remap the channels. This allows you to essentially create your specific lineup and those changes will be saved for all future EPG updates. Just a thought if you are interested.

I am just beginning to plan how to upgrade my home entertainment equipment from the late Pleistocene. Presently I have 3 VCRs that I can program (laboriously) to record three different stations/shows simultaneously.

If I set up a server with 3 tuner cards, can I use SageRecorder (with three windows apparently) to perform similarly? This can be a simple record-only function. Will I need more than a single hard-drive? Is the S/W limited numerically? e.g. If I have 4 tuner cards can I record 4 different shows simultaneously? 5? 6? 500?

TIA

You can use as many simultaneously as the system can handle. No one's found a limit yet, and there is no actual limit in the software itself.

So how does one setup one instance of Sage Recorder to reference one capture card and the second instance to reference the second capture card in order to setup the appropriate COM ports for serial control?

How do you get SageRecorder to record on two or (multiple tuners) in the same computer? I am confused? Can some one please explain?

Once you have 2 copies of SageRecorder (as Narflex referenced above) you will need to change the 'AV Capture Device' option in the Setup so that each instance of SageRecorder has a different device selected. To do this, open both SageRecorders, click the wrench button to open the Setup dialog, on the Multimedia tab you'll find the AV Capture Device setting. If you have 2 cards installed that are the same, you'll see a #1 and #2 as part of the device name. In one instance of the SageRecorder Setup, change it to the #1 capture device. And in the other instance of SageRecorder Setup, change it to the #2 capture device.

That should be it. Of course you'll have to run both SageRecorder executables (one from the SageRecorder directory and one from the SageRecorder2 directory) if you want to record from both tuners at the same time.

Hope that makes it a little clearer.

My sage recorder folder is listed as Frey Technologies..with the sage recorder file and the common files..do I just create another folder and titled it FT2...or SR2 or whatever and copy to that new folder created?? Do I need to copy the common files and the SR files or just the SR file? sorry just making sure I understand...

If you installed SageRecorder using the default installation options, you should have a c:\Program Files\Frey Technologies\SageRecorder directory where the SageRecorder executable, properties file, etc. are located. Just make a copy of that directory (including the files in that directory) so you have something like, c:\Program Files\Frey Technologies\SageRecorder2. If you don't have a directory structure like that, try creating a new directory somewhere and copy all of the SageRecorder related files to the new directory and give a whirl...what's the worst that could happen ;)

I hope I have this correct. I kind of get the jist that you have to create a second copy of the sage directory and rename it; however, I am hoping that I dont have to schedule shows to each card. In other words, I am assuming that I can just schedule shows and let sage determine whether it needs to use two cards to make the capture.

If I have to personally set up each card and do the conflict resolution myself then the second card is going back and my poor wife will have to live with being second fiddle (to my kid of course). I mean lets face it I spend too much time dinking with this new HTPC to have time to watch tv. :)

I had posted a reply... but then realized this is the SageTVRecorder forum. Are you using SageTVRecorder or SageTV?
