My holy grail would be a USB IR remote that sends keystrokes to the computer and could be cloned by a Harmony. I tried and failed with the MCE IR Keyboard because the Harmony couldn't learn the signals. And please only keyboards/remotes that are being sold now.

This might be too simplistic an answer for you, but have you tried EventGhost on the PC? You can configure it to send keystrokes to an application based on the input received from the remote.

The Harmony should be able to learn any IR command, including those from a MCE IR keyboard. I've done that, including multi-key commands, so maybe there's something wrong with the remote.

The harmony is pretty good. The MCE keyboards send discrete pairs of commands. ie you hit a text the key and one IR signal goes then hit it again and a different IR signal goes. I had a crappy IR keyboard that would have worked 10 years ago but it has been long discontinued. My Hauppage remote and software work well but its not USB.

You win Ranger. EventGhost pretty much solves my problem and its free. And I'll play with the iPhone remote app when I Placeshift on my laptop.
