Can 3rd party apps by launched with Sage 2? I'm aware of the MAME and external dvd player features, but I need to launch some other emulators as well as an email editor and a browser. Basically I'm wondering if Sage can be my complete frontend.

I'm definitely on board with a different music player. I think Studio is going to be the greatest thing to happen for Sage acceptance, because it will allow these kinds of substitutions. The Sage music player, while it definitely needed to be there, just isn't up to par with the industry (especially with its lack of support for formats and vbr, which are real killers). But, if you think about it, why should it be? There are people whose job is to make the best possible music player. None of those people work at Sage. Studio will allow us to put together a best of breed HTPC, with Sage's outstanding PVR functionality and Studio gluing the whole thing together. I'll be thrilled when I can have WMP9 playing my MP3s, ZoomPlayer handling my DVDs, my choice of emulators handling my games, and Sage handling my PVR and and library functionality. I really hoped that was going to happen with MyHTPC, but it just never quite got there for me.

What I would like to know is will Studio allow you to extend the Sage framework via plugins. Like GBPVR or Myth.

Oh wow... would this also allow for replacing the video player or even just the dvd player? I'm thinking that disabling macrovision and adding back in my Hollywood plus card and porting the video into the svideo in on my pvr-350 would allow for watching of dvd's through the output of the pvr-350. :D
This could be done by setting up the dvd application to be the realmagic player, which could be in the background. yadda yadda, you get the idea. :D
Of course this could already be done with seperate remote controls and just treating it like an extra channel.

ok... I might be a little dense here, but none of the threads you link show how to add menu items (as the original poster wants to do).

Well the origional poster was talking about editing the main menu. He probably means either. No way to do it without Studio.
However, those STV's do allow you to change the text or hide the menu items.
