06-05-2004, 09:59 AM
This is the first complete release of the MlbDude2 skin.
I don't have a web page setup for installation instructions yet. So here is a brief summary.
Expand the latest MlbDude2.zip to your "SageTV\STVs\OriginalV2" folder. Make sure the included MlbDude folder is extracted properly. Now follow the same instructions used for MlbDude 1.4 except substitute MlbDude.stv for MlbDude2.stv.

Added property to allow the LiveTV guide to timeout and go Back to previous menu. NOTE: This may not work well for Mouse users.
Added property to allow user to disable Mini-Guide for Guide command in enhanced OSD. If disabled, Guide command goes to LiveTV guide. Chan up and down will still bring up the mini-guide though.
Added property to launch an external application when the Music Library command is selected.
Added properties to launch an external media player when a library file is selected. Very experimental.
Added FirstRun icon back into Sage Recordings.
Redesigned Mini-Guide to allow for right and left navigation. Very experimental.

1.8.2 - June 21 2004
Fixed Mini-Guide to start on current channel if the show is currently recording.
Added property to allow user to enable color borders for the OSD to signify currently recording, manual recording, and favorite.
mlbdude/osd_color_border=
Added back Done button to Color Calibration
Corrected origionalv2 Frey bug or behavior - Clicking on a currently recording show in Sage Recordings now takes you to the correct info menu.
Corrected origionalv2 Frey bug or behavior - If show is currently recording as a Manual Record red border was covering yellow currently recording border.
Changed formatting of two pane menus to only leave a border in the left pane when moving to the right.
Selecting Recording Error (possibly Delete as well) now takes you back to the Main Menu if you came from the OSD.
Override Volume Down when Mini-Guide is up to not allow volume to be changed if you hit the left "wall" in the Mini-Guide. Volume can only be changed when Mini-Guide is closed. This is necessary for dual Left\Right with Volume commands.
Fixed refresh issue causing channel info to possibly not be displayed on first call to Mini-Guide.
1.8.3 - June 22 2004
Added property to auto close OSD Options menu after Inactivity timeout if it is open. Again, mouse focus does not count as activity.
mlbdude/auto_close_osd_option=true
Added playlist capability to Video Library. It uses a playlist called "VIDEO PLAYLIST" so just ignore it if you use the Music Playlist manager.

Added new command CUSTOM2 command to cycle through the four different Guide views.
Added new Upcoming Movies menu. Use the Options menu to filter by Movie sub-category.

mlbdude/mini_guide_look_ahead=true
Added menu item for Upcoming Movies in Search menu.
Changed Video Library info.xml import to use info.my (file structure has changed to require myHTPC.my files). Sorry.
NOTE: You need to edit your properties file and change the line:
mlbdude/video_info_file=info.xml
to
mlbdude/video_info_file=info.my
1.8.5 - June 26 2004
Corrected property issue with Mini-Guide causing no airings to be shown.
Correct focus issues in Movie Browser.
Correct redirect issues from Video Playlist Clear menu item.
Changed STOP command to send back to Main Menu like the Origionalv2 does. This should help the 350 users.
Changed OSD menu item "Close File" to "Stop" for consistancy.
Removed all ways to accidentially get to the old unsupported Frey two-pane Sage Recordings menu.
Video Library now looks for an info.my (or whatever you may have changed default info file to) first. If it can't find it, it looks for EXACT MATCH FILE NAME.my. This allows to have multiple .my files in one folder with multiple episodes.
Added properties to display Archived Shows on Main Menu. It will probably have to be enabled before the text property is available.

1.8.7 - July 5 2004
Fixed formatting with First Run icon.
Fixed FF and REW EPG jump forward issues with new Numeric entry OSD.
Vertical SR menu was not showing currently recording shows.
Selecting or Mouse click on Group Name in left table for Sage Recordings Horizontal view now selects the first Airing automatically.
Channel Name in EPG will now shrink to fit.
Added property for sending parameters to the DVD player.
external_dvd_player_params
Added property to keep Sage from Closing the media file at end of playback.
mlbdude/auto_close_at_eof=true Set to false to have Sage leave the file open but still send back to appropriate menu.
BETA: Weather Menu - There is a new hidden by default Main Menu item or you can get to it from a Main Menu with the CUstom5 command.
Weather menu configurable properties:
mlbdude/weather_zip= enter your zip
ui/main_menu_weather_enabled=false
ui/main_menu_weather_text=Weather
Due to the size of the archive with images and all, I will be uploading a main archive then smaller update archives between major releases. So to run the latest version, download and install the MlbDude2_1_8_5.zip file then the latest update and overwrite the STV.
If anyone comes up with some new icons let me know and I will host them and add links to this thread.

Some quick caps of what can be done quickly by changing the background and selected image properties. It would be even better with different lower right icon sets :).

I will fix that recording schedule now and post a new version. The menu redef's are something that is coming soon. It will also include a new menu structure and the ability to redef sub menus too.

I posted an update file in the first posting. Note it is a separate download since I only need to update the STV. Thanks for testing this for me!

Great ,
seen the same overlap issue trying to change stvs as well.
Also, I seem to have blackbars at the side of the video now, the menus are fine, but video does not fill the screen like before?

Make sure you restart Sage after you do an update with the experimental UI updater in detailed setup.
Make sure you have your aspect ratio set to Fill.

Hi
Cool, cheers for enabling any background.
I can only get the video on menu's and epg by having 3d Acceleration and colour on overlay enabled. If I disable colour on overlay I get a blue video screen!!
I can't seem to get the recording info on the menu's either. Am I missing something.
Cheers

You do need Overlay Color Keying enabled if you run Overlay, however you should not need 3D Acceleration.
I can't seem to get the recording info on the menu's either. Am I missing something.
What do you mean by this?

While watching live TV, right click with mouse brings up the options menu but 5 of the options, "Detail Info, Main Menu, Sage TV recordings, LiveTV Guide, & Recording Schedule," can't be clicked with the mouse.

It is not a mistake. I put placeholder images on all the menu items. Some are REAL bad (check out the Back one on all menus). I am having difficulties finding good images. I am hoping this will help motivate people :).
FYI, if you want you can delete the image from the MlbDude\Default directory for the ones that are not relevant and they won't load.

oh yeah I deleted my post because I went and searched and saw this
the tool box is better than the cog though in my opinion
I actually like the etailed pictres better than the simple ones but they are harder sometimes to understand and see everything
I will try to start looking but where did you start other than the cog is from media center

I got a lot from MythTV themes, and some from XLobby themes. It would be cool if we could come up with different "Themed" sets. Anime, MCE, Comic, Technical, etc.

hey I am getting a bug where the menus are becoming non responsive
I cannot use certain buttons in the options menu when playing a file like main menu
everytime I close a file while watching it I have sleep and then rewake sage of the UI lockups but it still to continues to record and does not need to be restarted just slept
I also have been using malore UI and keeping all of his updates but generally just running yours
the past release did not do this(alpha)
fixed it but delete the STV folder and copying the one from my client
then updating to newest version
also found the problem was doing VMR9 with intervideo video decoder using the new DNM filter

Some observations:
Going to the program guide from main menu (with nothing playing), selecting a show does not bring up the video window, just plays the sound, have to hit enter again and it goes to fullscreen.
While playing a video/show, hitting "stop" used to stop the video and go back to main menu, it now just stops the video but does not go to main menu.
"Search by description" and "search all fields" still uses the old background picture.
Edit: I just noticed that "video menu options" is in Multimedia-setup twice.

Anyone else using 1.3 and still getting the missing preview video? Also, verify that you are using either VMR9 or Overlay with Color Keying enabled.

I'm using overlay (with ffdshow MPEG-4 video decoder) and overlay color keying enabled.

I'm getting the missing preview window with sound, too. When I go back to the main menu, it's there and everythings fine after that. It's just the first time when nothing is being recorded. Also, weird things happen if I pull up the options dialog. Parts, or all, of the guide may disappear. If I keep pressing options, other parts disappear or reappear. Once I've gone fullscreen or to the main menu and back into the guide this doesn't happen. I'm using VMR9 with 3D accel.
Hope that helps. I have a request, too, if I may. I love the mini-guide, that's the main reason I installed this, but would it be possible to have it show what's coming on next by using the left/right arrow keys?
Thanks!

Found the problem in the Program Guide with the hidden video. Uploaded a new fix (1.4) with some other items included.
Also wanted to point out an excellent first "theme" for this STV created by gplasky...
http://forums.sage.tv/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=5773
I am on a business trip for the whole week so no updates until the weekend. Post any errors you find and I will get to them this weekend. I want to move out of the beta.
The next items will be to expose more items as user-changeable so these "themes" can be more complete. I will also try and consolidate this stuff so switching between them is easier.
Items I definitely want to make configurable include:
Menu text color
Selected item text color
Menu text size and color and style are already accessible as
ui/heading_font_size
ui/heading_font_style
ui/heading_font_face
Selected item background color
Non-Selected item background color
And more. If you think of any that you want exposed let me know. I am also thinking of moving these items out of the properties file and allow "theme" builders to included a config file with their images and such.
Thanks all, this is starting to get fun :)

Nice, liveTV (It started out being called "LiveTV Guide," but I saw what you wrote on changes in 1.4 so I changed it in properties file to "LiveTV"), I like how you were able to keep "sleep" in the main menu, layered underneath "upcoming recordings."
"Stop" brings up a black screen instead of the main menu like it used to.
Edit: Can't seem to click "Sleep" in the main menu with the mouse.

Yeah I was messing with your head on those properties :) but they seemed to make more sense this way.
Doh! I missed the stop command. It is an easy fix but will have to wait till this weekend. Sorry.
EDIT: Also fixed the Sleep problem for next release. There was an invisible mini-browser on top of it. I change the order. You can still select it with something other than the mouse though for now.

I got a few problems with your skin
in favorites when adding them by title,etc.... the background color is blue and everything ghosts over eachother
and it is in every catergory in the schedule recording area but the channel browse and catergory browse
also I have issues in the favorite where the screen goes blank sometimes after viewing a favorite and returning the list of them
the window when using overlay does not get filled by the video
no overhang but a nice gap on the left hand side
VMR9 seems fine
the biggest issues seem to be in the scheduled recording area look at each tab and see if find any others
this is off a clean install of XP Pro so no side effects they are problems

It is a screen shot of the main menu with overlay rendering of the video in the corner
I know you cannot see the video being renndered cause of overlay but there is border on the left hand side where you can clearly see a vertical well that is where the video is being shown
maybe you can adjust the overscan of the video so you will not have to see the black bar when using overlay

I have just realised I do not have the menu icons on the menu's...
How do I enable them?
Dan

You don't-they should just be there. You need to download the original beta which should be nearer the top of the download page. That contains all the icons and everything. I think you're just downloading the updates which is just the .stv file.

No you're not crazy. I can confirm thje same issues and I'm using VMR9 and 3D acceleration. Also, after you finish clicking in your letters and if you move your mouse over the alphabet, the ghosting goes away after a couple swipes. On your Main Menu, the vertical line you're seeing is (I think) actually a 3d shadow effect that goes up the left side and along the top of the screen. Maybe because you're using overlay it is showing up as a solid, vertical line.

Hi
Has anyone noticed that when you exit Sagtv you loose the names of recordings from the shows in recordings section? It is a real pain!
I like the idea of having a capacity free indicator, but I would prefer for it not to say xGb, I would rather have hours in relation to the recording capacity. What do you think.
Also would it be possible to have "Archived Shows" on the main menu, I do not use the music jukebox, dvd player or picture stuff. Perhaps this could be added as an option.
Cheers

This is a weird thing that I'm seeing using the June 5 and 6 update.
Using this text in my sage.properties:
ui/main_menu_button_image=
ui/main_menu_epg_enabled=true
ui/main_menu_epg_text=Program Guide
ui/main_menu_livetv_enabled=false
ui/main_menu_livetv_text=LiveTV Guide
ui/main_menu_mlib_enabled=true
ui/main_menu_mlib_text=Media Library & DVD
ui/main_menu_schedrec_enabled=true
ui/main_menu_schedrec_text=Schedule Recordings
ui/main_menu_setup_enabled=true
ui/main_menu_setup_text=Setup
ui/main_menu_sleep_enabled=true
ui/main_menu_sleep_text=Sleep Mode
ui/main_menu_sr_enabled=true
ui/main_menu_sr_text=Recordings
ui/main_menu_srmenu_enabled=true
ui/main_menu_srmenu_text=Recordings
ui/main_menu_tv_enabled=false
I get this screen:
http://www.kjake.net/sage/mlbdude2_main_menu.jpg
I have 2 Recordings! :eek2:
Selecting the first brings you to the normal recording screen, but I can't help but notice it says SageTV Recordings instead...
http://www.kjake.net/sage/mlbdude2_recordings1.jpg
Selecting the second brings me to this interesting Schedule Recordings screen...notice the title though...and notice _another_ Recordings menu option at the top. It will bring you to the above screen.:
http://www.kjake.net/sage/mlbdude2_recordings2.jpg
Here's my real Schedule Recordings menu:
http://www.kjake.net/sage/mlbdude2_record_sched.jpg
Anyone know why? Something in my sage.properties file?

My lines are like this:
ui/main_menu_srmenu_enabled=false
ui/main_menu_tv_enabled=false
I'm guessing that this line: ui/main_menu_srmenu_text=Recordings (which I don't have)
might be something MlbDude is working on but isn't ready yet. Since he said he'll be away for a week and wouldn't be here to explain it, just change "ui/main_menu_srmenu_enabled" to false for now will give you just one "Recording" line on the main menu.

I was going to download this skin and give it a wirl, but after reading all the issues, I may just wait. I'm also confused, WILL there be ONE (1) file that I can download and get all the fixes and the latest version?
I do not want to have to download and install several files to be up to date, not when they are being released this close together, also would like to have install and use instructions of the features. I found your web page, but now wonder what has changed from what I read.
Could there be a message put out when all bugs are fixed, and when there will be a single download and install page to copy and print?
This skin really adds to the functionality of SAGE!

Here's a tip, keep a shortcut to the "OriginalV2" folder on the desktop. Installing or upgrading is usually nothing more than just dragging and dropping a file or two into that folder.
MlbDude - nice work! Thanks for all your effort.
I noticed one thing that may be a bug. The "Upcoming Recordings" minibrowser will list shows that have been marked to not record (i.e. "Watched" or "Do not like", or "Do not record")
Also, any chance of fixing up the default Sage "Upcoming Recordings" screen to remove all the blank space???

the problem are only in the scheduled recording section when you goto serach and favorites
if you already have your favorites setup and do not serach every night for programs in the serach then you are ok
and it is still usable just not pretty very beta and alot of ghosting
everything works fine
if you want to use it
you download the original release then the update
the original release has added pictures and the update just replaces the old STV file
so you can install whenever without needing them all
also download this as well
http://download.sage.tv/STVUpdates/OriginalV2.stv
it updates the frey's STV file

This is sweet, dude! I totally admire the work you are doing making the interface more attractive and intuitive!
I noticed that some of the screen backgrounds are still in the deep blue rather than the ocean green. Are these still in progress?
Also, what is the best pixel dimensions for the channel logos so that they are re-sized proportionally?
Thank you for your time and effort on these customizations. They are greatly appreciated!

mlbdude,
Thanks for the great work on studio. One question that I have is could wildcards be used in the naming of folder images for the video library. So instead of "folder.jpg" could we be able to use "*.jpg". I have a large number of video files and renaming these would be a problem.

Well, I am back. Thanks for all the great testing everyone. I have posted an uptade (1.5) to fix the bugs posted here. Hopefully I did not miss anything.
kny3twalker,
I notice the black bars when using Overlay as well with the Preview window. This is something Sage or the decoder is doing and I don't have direct access too. I may detect if Overlay is being used and try to compensate but not sure if I want to go that far.
any chance of a hdd capacity indicator like malore has?Probably not. I let Sage handle my recording space so it is always at just a couple of GB free. I will keep it on the list though.
KJake,
That menu you stumbled on is something I am working on. It is an effort to redo the "flow" of the menu structure and limit the number of menu items on each screen. Not sure where I am going with it yet.
Also, any chance of fixing up the default Sage "Upcoming Recordings" screen to remove all the blank space???Have you tried the Interleaved version of this menu?

mlbdude It happens with the 3 decoders have currently installed
nvDVD, PowerDVD, Sonic DVD Decoder Pack when using overlay
I think it did this with the normal release of sageTV v2 but it would be nice if you could compensate for it, something they never did
also back arrow does not work when adding favorites
also I getting lock ups if I use the closebutton to close the file to return to the main menu
then when I try to watch another show
I get lock ups in the video only
I can still navigate the menus
Happens until I restart
If I do not use the close button and just start watching something else it is fine

When a recorded show finishes 1.5 doesn't go back to the Recordings. I have to close the file from the options menu and then it puts me to the Main Menu.

Anyone else see this, using the latest 1.5 update, when I use "Browse by station" and try to record a show a few days away, the red border denoting a show to record goes around every show on the screen. But when I move up or down on the shows on the screen, then go back to the originally set to be recorded show, the screen is now correct (with only the show I originally wanted having the red boarder).
Edit: this only happens sometimes.

I would bet you can recreate it if you use the Pgup or Pgdown commands on any of the two pane menu's. This is a bug in Sage and is very reproducible. I think that is why Frey does not have any two-pane items in their default STV yet.

Their is a bug in the setup wizard when you go to add a new card or modify a existing card. Their is no selection indicator shown. I hope this make since.. Just go to the setup wizard and try to adjust the color calibration you will see what I mean. This also occurs when you try to add a new card to the database.

You might still have the old directory structure. If you download the full beta1 package it will contain a directory structure of MlbDude\Default where the images go. It might be best to delete you existing MlbDude directory and just extract that one again.

Can I ask for a feature request
I am using two sources for recording
analog cable and digital satellite
I noticed one thing after changing around my audio rendering and decoding setting long enough
I realized that for analog cable the best rendering was directsound:audigy(sound card) and decoding was setting up the audio decoder of my choice for 5.1 analog sound
for satellite I found it was setting the rendering to default wave out and for decoding setting the audio decoder to spdif
I found that when using analog 5.1 setup with my digital satellite recording I got a lot of noise
when using the spdif decoding with analog cable recording
I found the background sounds to be overpowerig in comparasion to the dialog from the people talking
I know there is probably no way you would add separate video and audio decoding/rendering parameters because you and most of everyone else has different setups and probably only uses one source for recording but
Is possible to do with Studio?
(to setup video/audio decoding and rendering per source( such as coxial, svideo, composite, in the future with high Def component, DVI, firewire)
I have been wondering about this after all the testing to see what which combination of renderrig and decoding worked best for my audio setup
also I could only get 5.1 stereo this way with both the analog recordings and the digital recordings
I do not know why?

Saw these props in the 1st post on 1.4
To be able to modify what's on the main menu for example:

Added properties to modify Main Menu items:
ui/main_menu_epg_enabled=true
ui/main_menu_epg_text=Program Guide
ui/main_menu_livetv_enabled=false
ui/main_menu_livetv_text=Live TV
ui/main_menu_mlib_enabled=true
ui/main_menu_mlib_text=Media Library & DVD
ui/main_menu_schedrec_enabled=true
ui/main_menu_schedrec_text=Schedule Recordings
ui/main_menu_setup_enabled=true
ui/main_menu_setup_text=Setup
ui/main_menu_sleep_enabled=true
ui/main_menu_sleep_text=Sleep
ui/main_menu_sr_enabled=true
ui/main_menu_sr_text=Recordings
ui/main_menu_srmenu_enabled=false
---------------------------------------------------------------
do I have to add these to the sage.props file?

I did not care for the borders in the OSD so I removed them. For me on a 4 tuner system they did not mean much and made the OSD look ugly. I am planning on incorporating some kind of small icon in the OSD at some point to designate what type of recording ti is.
BTW, the yellow border means currently recording. Red just means it was a manual recording.

On another note, I have the Currently Recording and Upcoming Recording sub windows enabled on the main menu. I come home everyday about about 5:45 and see that that it still says Upcoming recording "That 70's Show 5:00 - 5:30". If I hit say the "Recordings" button and come back to the main menu, this sub window refreshes. I'm wondering if it's possible to put the refresh you do for the sub window in a timer event also like it is when you navigate to different sections of the program. That would be neat if there was a timer event system to take advantage of in Studio... :)

some screen left works and others back works (including the arrow for mouse support) and others both work
one more thing can you do a complete line up of pictures for the old icons like you did for the new cartoon icons
I think I like how the new ones have standard sizes and that everything has its own icons but like the old style of images more

Are you also checking for the combo-commands Right/Vol Up & Left/Vol Down when deciding when to display that volume indicator? Those are the commands normally associated with the Hauppauge remote's buttons. The only difference I can think of is that it would send the command via a message... but I don't know why that wouldn't work as part of the volume notification process.

I really love the mini-guide, but I was wondering if it would be possible to add the ability to scroll ahead and back (timewise)? If I'm watching a show and its 12:57, using the mini-guide isn't that helpful for seeing what there is to watch at 1:00.

1.8.1
Added property to allow the LiveTV guide to timeout and go Back to previous menu. NOTE: This may not work well for Mouse users.
Added property to allow user to disable Mini-Guide for Guide command in enhanced OSD. If disabled, Guide command goes to LiveTV guide. Chan up and down will still bring up the mini-guide though.
Added property to launch an external application when the Music Library command is selected.
Added properties to launch an external media player when a library file is selected. Very experimental.

Wow.. At least in the 10 minutes I've used it, the left/right time shift in the mini-guide works GREAT.
Shows the upcoming show, selecting it goes to the show detail screen so you can record it, etc. Cool. That is EXACTLY what I was looking for!
One thought, though. I think when you go into the mini-guide, it should start on the channel you are on. When I start watching Live TV (or if I go out to the Home menu and back to Live TV) and then bring up the mini-guide it brings up the information for the first programmed channel in the listing (in my case channel 2) instead of the channel I am watching.
All subsequent times I bring up mini-guide in that Live TV session, it starts on whatever channel I stopped using the mini-guide on.
Not a huge deal, but would improve usability (in my opinion).
Jason
P.S. Thanks for adding the 'first run icon' back on the recordings listing.

Hi
Are there any other StreamZap Remote users out there using this mod and having problems? The mini-guide does not work for me with the StreamZzp. my previous problem with the volume was remedied by linking the volume with left and right Even when I unlink the Left/Right from volume the mini guide option still doesn't work for me. Live guide comes up as promised but left and right does not bring up the channel OSD/look-ahead
Also is there a way to make a record ICON so you know when you've actually initiated a manual recording on the timeshift screen?
Gets better with each release!
Oh also there is no DONE button on the COLOR CALIBRATION menu like the original stv.

Posted a new version. Lots of small fixes. Some deep so let me know if I broke anything and I will get a fix out ASAP.
Check the first post for the download.

Is there anyway to have a pop up dialog box (ie any options/menu items) time out so that if there is no input in say 20 seconds it clears itself? Same with the Program Guide. If you call up the Guide and and looking through it, it would be nice to have it return to the playing stream if there has been no additional input in say 20 seconds...

Not sure about popup dialog, but you can do that now with the EPG as of 1.8.1.
Just change:
mlbdude/epg_timeout=false
to true.
Be aware that Sage does not notice mouse focus as activity though but if you use a remote it should be fine. Though I find it annoying since I am slow and the timeout never seems long enough.

MlbDude,
Is it possible to *not* let Sage sleep when launching and using an external jukebox program?
I launch into myHTPC for browsing and playing music, but confusion ensues among others upon exiting and finding Sage is asleep... Having disabled the sleep option with your STV, sleep has no meaning in my htpc world...
If it's not possible currently, perhaps you could consider making it an option in the properties?
Also, as an aside, what do I need to set/unset to make the "guide" button bring up the OSD mini-guide instead of the regular program guide?
thanks!

As long as you are in the Enhanced OSD, the Guide command will bring it up by default.
Not Sleeping Sage when running another program that may use DirectX (as I do) will cause all kinds of problems. I may add a configuration option for it later.

Would it be posible to have playlist for video files similar to the playlist for mp3's
This would be great for putting my sons videos or TV shows on so I can just click it and it randomly picks one of his movies and goes?
or for even stringing my Anime shows together!

Here is a new screen cap of the Video Details menu. Notice the new playlist control and also the first couple of elements (Title and Overview) imported in from a DVDProfiler XML export.
What are the most important elements other than those two you would like to see? Screen screen space is obviously an issue.
BTW, I know the content does not match the video, it was the only test XML file I had :).

You mention in the Web page about your STV that the enhanced OSD is optimized for VMR9... As I'm running Overlay (read: NOT VMR9) on a rather old system, will I encounter problems with the E-OSD?

No problems, it is designed with transparency in mind so in Overlay it may cover up too much video for your taste.

While Sage is closed, delete all your ui/main_menu_* lines from your Sage.properties file. Restart Sage then exit again. NOTE: These lines are currently not compatible with the old style STV so be careful when switching between them.
Now go in and you should see new lines similar to:
ui/main_menu_epg_enabled=true
ui/main_menu_epg_text=Program Guide
ui/main_menu_livetv_enabled=false
ui/main_menu_livetv_text=Live TV
ui/main_menu_mlib_enabled=true
ui/main_menu_mlib_text=Media Library & DVD
ui/main_menu_schedrec_enabled=true
ui/main_menu_schedrec_text=Schedule Recordings
ui/main_menu_setup_enabled=true
ui/main_menu_setup_text=Setup
ui/main_menu_sleep_enabled=true
ui/main_menu_sleep_text=Sleep
ui/main_menu_sr_enabled=true
ui/main_menu_sr_text=Recordings
epg line is for the LiveTV Guide
livetv line is for Live TV
To remove Sleep, set sleep_enabled=false

mlbdude,
update on the fill issue.
i noticed that with vmr9 on, 3d accel, and video backgrounds on (but nothing playing.. just black screen behind) the menus, and epg are fine. cells get filled with the correct color and filled completly.
but with the same settings as above, but video is playing as the background. this is when things go bad. and i get results as in the screenshots i posted earlier.
again, since i see this in malores stv also. im wondering if its not a bug in sage itself. maybe this info could help frey in tracking it down. *shrugs*
i didnt get this problem in the alpha preview of 'mlbdude2' nor do i get this in the current version of 'mlbdude1'. do you have any ideas on what you could have added that exposed this bug?

It is some kind of relationship between your decoder, video card, and video card driver. Are you running the latest driver by chance?

I have designated my imported media files directory to have both my mp3 dir and my photo dir. The problem is I have the folder .jpg still in there ( I am not removing them becuase I will just have to put them back again when this whole embedding the image into the mp3 file is resolved.) . This adds the album covers to my pictures and have to sort through them to see any family photos.
Is there going to be an enhancement to seperate the import media (lumping them all into one) to something like import audio and import images. This way your album art does not get thrown into your photos....
Thx,

That won't come from me, as that would be a core change. For video library though feel free to use a different file name to keep the folder images from getting imported. You can configure that in the properties file. I know folder.img works well.

On my machine, if I enable the Enhanced OSD, the mini-guide works well, but the system seems to have a really hard time reacting to the normal channel up/down functions. In fact, with the E-OSD, CH U/D will generally lock up the system for many seconds at a time, while without the E-OSD, channel u/d changes are very smooth and quick... I have Overlay with 3D accel, if it matters...
Thoughts?

mlbdude, I want to first say thanks. For months I have been planning on spending a ton of time with studio (when it's released) in working up a top notch Ui that really fit my needs, but yours is so close to what I'd would do for myself, that I now think that it won't be necessary. Fantastic job with this!!
I have just a few things on my wish and bug list:
1) I use the two pane vertical display for my recordings. Would it possible to display the grouping item on the left in italics if all of the items on the right are already watched?
2) In the Setup>Detailed Setup>Multimedia section there are a lot of items. On my display, the list actually runs below my viewable area and I'm unable to see the last item, "Sage Recordings Menu". Can this window be scrollable or can the items be groupd differently so that they are all visible?
I had several others, but you took care of all of them int he 1.8 series of fixes. Again, great job!!

This is possible if you have a slow machine. I am creating this on an Athlon XP1800+ and the performance is fine. I have a dedicated P3 1Ghz that I have not yet tested the latest Mini-Guide so I will try tonight.
With the left and right navigation in the Mini-Guide it will probably just require a faster machine.

Perhaps the problem is that the final item is on razor's edge of what I can see in that window. I can actually see the top half of the text which says, "Sage Recordings Menu" (the bottoms of those letters are cut off, but I can mae out what they say) but I can't actually see the button/control which lets me change that option.

Unfortunately this feature still does not work at all for us StreamZap users. Any work around Mlbdude?
Is there an event # associated with the mini-guide?
How can I link the mini guide to my StreamZap?
When I enable the enhanced OSD option, my FULL GUIDE programmed button brings up the Mini Guide. If there was a way to program a button to FULL GUIDE while enhanced OSD is enabled, that would be a workaround. Problem is when I try to link a IR command to "GUIDE" it keeps bringing up the mini-guide.
am I linking the wrong command? Help please. :-)

After reading your edits it sounds like it is working as designed. By default the Mini-Guide takes over the GUIDE command in the Enhanced OSD and the LiveTV Guide then uses the CUSTOM1 command.
You can reverse this by setting mlbdude/use_mini_guide=false.

If you do that you can get the mini-guide with the custom1 command OR by pushing channel up or channel dn. The Guide command would send you to the full TV guide.
with the mini-guide disabled, the mini guide also comes up with the arrow keys as well(the scroll arrows) in addition to the channel up/dw--but this is for the AIW remote. Works great

That property is a little deceiving. It really does not disable the MG, but changes the way the GUIDE and CUSTOM1 command work.

Mlbdude, is there any way you can make the yellow/red surrounds when a programme is currently-recording/manual-record both show up (e.g. one inside the other), or have an option to just show the red one (original Frey behaviour)?
It's pretty common for me to start watching something and then decide to record the rest of it, so I normally hit manual record and then put Sage to sleep (that way, another favorite or IR won't kick in behind the scenes). I normally go and check that the manual record "took", but I can't tell now as the yellow border is always on top of the red one.
Cheers (and great work BTW),
- Neil.

That is actually a bug from Frey I fixed in mine. In all prior versions of the beta (don't remember where it got broken) the yellow border had precedence.
I don't like seeing just the red since it does not tell me if it is currently going or not. I will look into making more than one color visible.

Put up a new version.
Added ability to import Title and Overview from a DVDProfiler xml file. Place the xml file in the same folder as the video file or your folder.jpg. The default name it looks for is "info.xml".
Added new Options menu to Gide displays (LiveTV Guide, Browse by Station, Browse by Category, Upcoming Movies) to allow quick guide navigation.
Added new command CUSTOM2 command to cycle through the four different Guide views.
Added new Upcoming Movies menu. Use the Options menu to filter by Movie sub-category.
Changed Mini-Guide to only show the next 12 hours for right navigation. Might help performance issues.
Those that were having performance issues with the Mini-Guide let me know if it is faster now.

can you disable the arrows on the top and bottom of the screen on the setup menu, it makes it so you cannot hit up from the first item(setup wizard) and be at the bottom item (back to main menu) because the wrap around is not working
it also does not work with page up and down
I do not even know why they are there unless it it for future items to added to the list but in that case why not disable them unless they are needed
also do you still want the images?

I love it! One thing that I find hard to deal with is in the program guide there is no way of telling what numbers you have entered when performing a jump. My RF remote reciever doesn't always pick up the button presses so when I push 136 and hit enter I may end up at 16 for example. Is there anyway of adding the keyed number display back into your new guide?
Keep up the excellent work!:goodjob:

Ah, I know what you are talking about now. Those are popping up because the menu items can't all fit on screen so Sage is brining up the nav arrows. I have seen it do it sometimes even if a single pixel is cut off.
I will add a property to hide them if you want. I use them personally since my menus have much larger fonts and it is nice to know I can scroll to get more menu items.

mlbdude,
The new 1.8.3 version helped a lot with channel change performance. I assume it's the limitation of 12 hours of guide data in the mini-guide. Could the number of hours in the mini-guide be adjustable? Since the performance seems directly affected by the number of hours, I'd personally like it to only load the current shows on each station, since my mini-guide use is limited to channel surfing more than looking ahead. This would presumably increase performance even more. While it's faster now, it's not quite fast enough... :-)
thanks a ton!
dan.

Comment on the XML importing. DVD Profiler exports it's collections as one big XML file, so is there a way you could try and find the DVD in the monolithic DVDP export.
The other thought I had is that it would be possible to use .my files. The reason I say this is because there's a great app for myHTPC (DVDPro2My) that will parse the DVDProfiler xml and create a folder with coverart for each DVD.
Here's an example my file:
title=Shrek
subtitle=The greatest fairy tale never told
overview=A reclusive ogre and a chatterbox donkey go on a quest.
produced=2001
duration=90
rating=PG
review=8
images=cover.jpg
chain=Feature,movie01.avi,credits.avi
chain=”Deleted Scenes”,scene01.mpg,scene02.mpg
category=Genre,Comedy,Childrens

I will look into it. I am actually brute force parsing the XML file now, so working with a large collection file would be really hard. The .my file looks even easier to parse.

tried different video drivers.
still getting messed up colored fill with video backgrounds on only why video is playing. if video is stopped, or no video happens to be playing, then its fine. only when things are moving do the colored fill areas freak out.
guess its back to mlbdude1..

Well, to use it as it is now you need to put an info.xml file in each folder with a movie formatted as:
http://forums.sage.tv/forums/showthread.php?postid=45977#post45977
I am going to change it to use a .my file though based on the fact that DVD Profiler won't dump out individual files.

Here's the link to DVDPro2My:

thats pretty slick... i wander how hard it would be to edit the source and have it output your jpg's to a standard name, like folder.img instead of dvdname.jpg.... or even set up a option to name it what ever you would like?
-edit-
wow.. i looked at the source.. and python is a pretty simple language... im gonna look at the compiler and I think i ll be able to at least make it static to output as folder.img

Here's an .my file from one of my DVDs
And on the picture filename (I guess this would apply to the .my files to) I would think all you would have to do is open the first *.jpg and *.my in the folder since there should only be one of each per folder.

OK, a new MINOR release is up that includes the change from an XML file to a .my file for Video Library info. If you don't want to use this feature there may not be anything worth updating just yet. I just wanted to get this out there for people to test and so people can start creating these info files.
Big apology to any that went ahead and added XML files to all of their Library folders.
1.8.4 - June 24 2004
Added property to hide menu scroll icons if menu items run off screen.
mlbdude/show_menu_scroll_icons=true
Added property to enable or disable right scrolling for the Mini-GUide.
mlbdude/mini_guide_look_ahead=true
Added menu item for Upcoming Movies in Search menu.
Changed Video Library info.xml import to use info.my (file structure has changed to require myHTPC.my files). Sorry.
NOTE: You need to edit your properties file and change the line:
mlbdude/video_info_file=info.xml
to
mlbdude/video_info_file=info.my

For those interested, I've updated my DVD guide with info about using DVD Profiler information and mlbdude's STV. I've also created a batchfile to rename the .my and .jpg files to info.my and folder.jpg. Remove the .txt from the filename stick it in the directory containing the folders created by DVDPro2My and run it.

When I'm watching shows and they come to the end, I used to remember that the file would automatically close and the program would return to Sage Recordings. I could not find in this thread if that feature was taken out.....or if what I'm seeing is due to a bug I'm about to disclose.
I've been consistently using this STV since 1.5 and lately have been noticing a new issue with closing files. Sometimes when I close a file (STOP Button), the system will immediately reboot. A scenario I've found that typically causes this is the following:
I play a previously recorded show A...while watching A, show B starts to record. While still watching A, show B finishes recording. At this point, now if I close the file for A the system tends to reboot. Usually I don't notice this until I totally finish A and it gets to the end and I press stop to close the file. I don't have any "hs_err" logs because I run Sage off a RamDisk...I might take it off the ram disk for a while just to reproduce the error.
This happened before and after the new Sage.dll. The only other things I have changed within the last few months has been the 350 driver, I had upgraded to the new driver SHS had posted right when he posted it. The errors didn't start happening till a while after that though...
Is this something in the STV with closing of the file...could it be fixed in an STV? It's almost like the program loses track of while file to close because a new show had been recorded while watching another....it's just weird behavior.
Thanks for any insight...
-----
On a side note, the "options" screen does not come up in the two pane view....was this disabled, I couldn't find reference to that in the thread either.

I noticed a difference between using the STOP command via your remote and using the Close file menu item from the OSD pop-up.
If the Close file option works (I think it will) I am going to switch to that. This option mimics what Frey was doing in the Original. It is a shame that you 350 guys have these issues. Jeff tells me that there should not be anything I do in a STV that SHOULD cause issues since it is all so high level. However, I think with the drivers in the state they are that is not currently true.
Good news though is I can maybe fix this for you and not cripple it :).

Unfortunately this is not something I can control well in Studio. The only solution would be for you to decrease the font size used by those menu items or to remove a menu item. Reducing the font size just a bit is probably the easiest.
The trick will be to get it just right. You now have that example I mentioned where even just a few pixels too much will cause that.
It is even worse in the OrigionalV2 STV. Here is my setup with that one loaded.

I'm using stangers GML file for sending messages and my STOP button is set for lParam 89, which is label "Close File" in the gml. I couldn't find an actual "STOP" command, either because I deleted it from the gml by mistake or it wasn't included in it. I will look to see if there is a different message for just stop as opposed to the close file one right now. I will also try to reproduce the scenario twice, once with using the remote stop and another with using the options menu close file and see if makes a difference.
How about why when the recording reaches the end, it doesn't automatically close the file? Before when I wanted to close a file, I used to fast forward to the end of a show...it would mark it watched and close it. : ) Is this something wrong on my end or something taken out of the STV?
I appreciate your help and insight to the problem...I'm almost scared nowadays to close a file. Sometimes I'll just open a new recording and then close that one...this scenario seems safer. : )
It seems like Sage loses track of which file to close/stop in my one scenario...and I'm only recently seeing this maybe because I'm only recently recording tv movies and watching them while other stuff is recording and finishing in the background.
EDIT
I checked and lParam 89 is the stop command for send messages:
Stop 89
There is no "close file" message to send to Sage, so maybe that's only available in the ui or maybe if I map a key to it and map my remote to that key stroke. I'll still verify that they are different...

Close file and Stop are the same thing in Sage. The difference is how am I capturing it, as a menu item or from a message from a command.
All of those events, including reaching the end of a file, are different hooks and can act differently. What I am going to do is replicate the behavior of the Close File menu item to the Stop command if this seems to work (it should). This will make it act just like the OrigionalV2 STV which is to return to the Main Menu.
In my STV when a recording reaches the end it will mark it as watched and return to to a menu (different menu depending on what type of file it is).
EDIT: Just the fact that you were confused by this also means that I am going to rename the menu item from Close File to Stop.

I should have done some more testing before asking... I've now discovered that it is None of the Above & is option #4 instead:
4. The show has to START or END during that hour for the show to be considered for recording. If the timeslot hour falls entirely within the middle of the show, it will not get recorded. Thus a 2.5 hour movie that starts at 1PM & ends at 3:30PM will get recorded if the fav uses the 1PM or the 3PM timeslot, but not if the 2PM timeslot is used.
Edit: I submitted this as a bug to Frey & received a very fast response that it will be fixed in a future version, so the intended functionality is actually #3: record the show if any part of it falls within the timeslot specified.

I have the font face and style set correctly but I can not determine which of the font entries controls the point size of the text of the channel names i nthe program guide.
No matter what changes I make, I can get the other items to be the right size but the text for the channel names (TBS, NBC, etc) are too big when the channel name is 4 letters or more (MSNBC, CNBC, BRAVO, etc).

MlbDude your picture is awesome LOL
I added the arrows back though so it does not look stupid when I am on the serach for programs screen
Also I reread the options that Opus4 left and I think also it maybe number 2 as well
Not to sure cause sportscenter is many times back to back and it usually grabs the one that starts during the hour slot
I have not seen it grab the one that ends during the hour slot though yet
I used the aditional airing at the beginning to check what would be recorded then just let Sage do its thing
sportscenter would impossible to record without this
some shows are an hour some are an hour and a half
they rarely start on the hour or half hour mark
I just set mine for an early morning time so it has plenty of room not to get conflicts

When I am in the Sagetv Recordings screen, two pane, and I go to the right to the specific shows, I cannot go back to the left to the grouping to select a different group of shows.
For Instance: I have 9 shows of Chappelle's Show. I go to the right to see the details of eac Chapelles show. If I press left (either on the keyboard or theremote) nothing happens. I have to use the mouse to go back over to the left side of the screen to select a different group.

Hey mlbdude,
I tried the latest 1.8.4 to use the non-look-ahead miniguide and it didn't work...
When mlbdude/mini_guide_look_ahead=false, the look ahead was *on*, and when mlbdude/mini_guide_look_ahead=true, the miniguide produces a *blank* window, with nothing other than two (up/down) scrollers.
In other words, the true/false behavior seems backwards, and when look ahead is on (stating off), it doesn't seem to load anything, including the current guide info.
thanks!

to change it you need to close sage first and sleeping is not closed
then make the changes to the properties file

Can we get some clarification on this...is there a horizontal property I'm missing...this is the only one in my props file:
videoframe/video_horizontal_shift_freq=0
I'm also using the enhanced_osd, but I still have the issue of needing to press REW if and only if there are more than 5 recordings in the list I'm stuck in. If there are less than five recordings, I can press down to get to the bottom of the list of recordings and down once more and it takes me to the left.
use_enhanced_osd=true
use_episodes_in_filenames=true
use_mlbdude_sage_recordings=true
I wasn't aware that the enhanced_osd was supposed to fix this issue...otherwise I would have spoken up...must have missed that post.

use_mlbdude_sage_recordings=true should be false. Setting it to true will give you an old version that Frey is giving out with the Original STV.
My current sage recordings menu is enabled in Detailed Setup->Multimedia->Sage Recordings Menu.
I guess for my next build I will disable the old behavior Frey is providing since it is causing confusion.
I will look into the the mini_guide_look_ahead issue.

This size is not customizable, however, it is set to auto-shrink if needed.

New version up. I also refreshed the main install. You can use it or the update to upgrade to:
It will probably have to be enabled before the text property is available.
ui/main_menu_archived_shows=false
ui/main_menu_archive_text=Archived Shows

I appreciate the effort, but I was still able to get the system to reboot itself 4 times this morning. I've switched from the beta driver back to the production hauppage driver to see if that makes a difference.
It's such a weird problem....no "hs_err" files are created, the system just immediately reboots. I'm typically finding that this is happening towards the end of a recording, especially after watching it a while. It one show this morning Sage was struggling to close it, it was stuttering a few second while trying to close so I pressed stopped and the system rebooted. But who knows if this is related to the beta driver or not since this never happened before that and like Jeff said, these STVs are at such a high level...they shouldn't be affecting that. If it starts happening again, I'll go back to the originalSTV with the production driver and see if it still happens.
Thanks again for your help with this.....

New update.
1.8.6 - June 27 2004
Fixed REW Timescroll issue with DVD's for.
Added group name and count for Sage Recordings Vertical menu.
Added new "Enhancements" section to Detailed Setup to configure most MlbDude properties.
Moved Main Menu options to new Enhancements section.
BETA Item: Added File Based music player. This works similar to Video Library but with MP3's. This is enabled in the new Enhancements setup area and will replace the other Music Player.
Added Custom2 Cycle menu to Enhanced OSD for Aspect Ratio.
Added Numeric Entry feedback popup to EPG.
Some experimental stuff here :).
I also changed the OSD's to Close a file when it reaches the end of the file.

Thanks for the info. It appears I have selected a font that is confusing the "auto-shrink" algorithm because it displays pretty big characters and SageTV is truncating the channel names and adding an ellipsis - for example, "MSNBC" becomes "MS..."

Both work great, thanks for the consideration.

Hi
It seems to work ok, now except, when i back out of archived shows on the mainmenu, it goes to the dvd and media menu.
Also when i restart sage to initialise the skin, it looses the names of shows in the recordings section, do you have anyideas about that?
Thanks for your hard work

Not for nothing, but your modifications are so good that Frey should make it as THE default in the original packaging!!!
The functionality you have added would DEFINITELY give this product much better reviews than it already has.
Keep up the good work.
Oh here is a request:
Malore has this filtering feature but it is very slow.
Can you mimic a Tivo guide feature where there is a split verticle pane... on one side are the channels and or the right side are all program in time order for the next two weeks for each channel?
That would be perfect!

That sounds a lot like the Station Browser. Have you checked it out yet? There are three ways to get to it.
1. Search for programs to record\Browse Stations
2. In the EPG use the Options command to bring up a menu with the different views.
3. Use the Custom2 command from any of the Airings views to cycle through them (EPG, Station Browser, Category Browser, and Upcoming Movies).
Check it out. If that is not what you are talking about, explain how it would differ.
Thanks!

You have done such a incredible job with this skin…
I would love to see more in the maintenance area though.
Would it be possible to do a custom command that brings up a popup window with the current available time (in min or hrs) you have free on your system?
I have 2 drives one set to use all but 10 gigs of space the other set to use only 10 gigs... my record quality is 2 gigs of space and I have a total of 80 gigs devoted to TV recording ( about 40 hrs ) I would love to know how much time I have free it would help in cleanup a lot.....
Would you be able to grab total space and divide by record quality to get the total time and then subtract the used space divided by the recorded quality to get the total free time ?

Thomas Sexton

I am having frequent UI lockups with this STV that I do not have the the OriginalV2 STV... They seem to be related to the 'Close File' command (I have Close File ; Home mapped to my remote's Stop button)... Is there anything I can do to debug this?
Other minor mouse issues: The Upcoming Recording list on the main menu is only click-able on the bottom half (half of channel icon + date/time); Similarly the 'progress bar' on the OSD is also only clickable on the bottom half...

I will have to look at the Close File item. Can you tell me if you are using the Stop binding from a particular menu, or are you using the Stop menu item from the OSD?
In a recent build I updated my STV to copy what the Original one does - Close then file then go to the Main Menu.
Also, are you using a 350?

Is it possible to highlight the borders of the "Upcoming Recording" and "Currently Recording" on the main menu as to show it as a selected choice?
Also when you choose and exit "Currently Recording" and "Upcoming Recording", it should exit you back to those choices but instead places you on the top of the main menu.
Can you make it so that when you "Back" it leaves you at that choice? I like to thumb through the suggested viewings to rate them as "like" or "dislike" and being sent back to the top of the main menu makes this a little tedious.
Thanks!

Hey mlbdude,
Have you thought of adding an automatic Close File (perhaps with confirmation prompt) that would automatically stop recording LiveTV after a period of inactivity?

I have, but I need to get Frey to add in some kind of timer that I can hook into. Seems like lots of people could use this timer hook :) I thought about doing something in the screen saver but that gets called even if you are in full screen video if you have it paused.

Wouldn't that prompt require human intrevention?
What if you are not at the TV at that time.
Would that affect anything? I don't seem to have an issue with the close file with the latest build. Where and what exactly is the problem?

The idea (mine at least) is that if you leave Sage sit there in LiveTV mode, after some timeout (maybe 2hr, maybe configurable) Sage would pop up a little confirmation box asking if you want it to keep recording. If you're there watching you say yes or no, if you're not there, it would default to no, an stop recording LiveTV by itself.
A lot of new users are caught by Sage just going on, recording LiveTV until you stop it, and this type of thing could make Sage more user friendly for newbies (or family members:)).

but isnt this how all PVR's work? Always recording?
My Tivo always did. From what I understand and have read this constant use of the HD is not harmful to the hardware.
Then again I built a standalone SageTV that does nothing else.

Yeah, but a lot of new users complain that they watched LiveTV, left, and when they come back the next day their HDD is filled up with stuf they didn't mean to record. It doesn't bother me, I just put Sage to sleep (don't watch LiveTV either).
What such a timeout would do, is effectively take Sage out of LiveTV mode automatically, which would stop it from recording "Everything on a channel". Keep in mind, Sage doesn't use a buffer, per-say, it records shows. And if you have IR on and the delete property not set (can't remember the exact property) Sage will just keep all those LiveTV files. It's to keep Sage from recording LiveTV when you're not watching, it would have no effect if you were there watching it.

I think adding this broke the "jump" feature of the EPG where you can enter a number (x) followed by FF or RW and the EPG would jump x number of days forward or backward, respectively. The jump feature was working with version 1.8.5, but doesn't appear to work in 1.8.6 Any chance the popup can be toggled on/off?

Can the pop up jump feature work for all of the EPG filters you made? It seems to only work for the default Live TV guide.
Thanks

Hi
What delete property are you referring to? Do you mean
the setup where the recording directory is specified along with how much HD space will be allocated along with the rules?
