View Full Version : "Restricted Access" Favourites - Suggestion

I'd like to see SageTV support the concept of "Restricted Access" favourites. I define a "restricted access" favourite as one whose properties can only be changed by entering an access code (it would seem reasonable to extend the parental access code feature currently in place for this purpose). The scenario that I see ocurring which I wish to prevent using this mechanism is the following:

I set up "Enterprise" as a favourite on SageTV. However little Johnny comes along and decides that he really wants to see "Barney" which airs at the same time (just for the sake of argument). Moreover, little Johnny always wants to see Barney so he sets it up as a favourite. SageTV obligingly offers little Johnny the choice of "Always recording Barney instead of Enterprise" which he gleefully accepts since he has no interest in Enterprise at all. So I come back a few days later expecting to have a couple episodes of Enterprise to watch and all I get is Barney.

If I could set up Enterprise as a restricted favourite, then little Johnny would be forced to enter an access code in order to make Barney a higher priority than Enterprise. Since he obviously won't be given the access code, then my Enterprise favourite remains safe. The access code should be required in all screens where the user could possibly overide the setting of a favourite.

This same feature would also prevent guests from unintentionally or otherwise changing your favourites

This feature could also be extended to manual recordings to prevent them being overidden by other manual recordings.

The example I used assumed one encoder but the funtionality can be logically extended to cover multiple tuners.

Lester

Thanks! However please note that that I'd like permissions even on the main server itself regardless of whether I have clients running. I don't want little Johnny changing favourites willy-nilly from the main server either :)
