I just downloaded the 1.3.4 beta and tried the WinTV 350 output. Wow.

I've been only marginally pleased with the picture quality before this using the release software and software decoders. I've tried every combination including the Dscaler plugins. It was "ok" for normal television shows but unacceptable for fast moving sports.

The hardware decoder on the 350 is giving me a GREAT picture. So a couple of questions:

1) Should the difference really be that dramatic, or is it possible I was doing something wrong before.

2) If I'm using the 350's svideo out, am I completely bypassing all of the settings in the "Video" section of the "Detailed Settings" area or do those settings, like the Dscaler plugin area, still apply.

3) Will there at some point be a way to display the SageTV onscreen display stuff through the 350's output?

Thanks!!

1 - yes it can be that dramatic; deinterlacing is very subjective thing and using the 350's TV out makes it a non-issue

2 - none of those settings have any effect on the 350's TV output

3 - yes

Your answer to number 3 makes me a very happy camper. I can be patient as long as I have hope. Thanks!!

Have you tried using different decoders and settings in SageTV because there's no reason it shouldn't be as good or better. Also, did you see this post: http://www.freytechnologies.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=284

I found that the registry settings that Jeffrey suggested almost halved the sageTV CPU usage on an epia M9000 (just got to wait for option to disable localOutput in sageTV now).

But i am having a big quality problem with sageTV 350's output. IT's all grainy as if it's stuck in low quality MPG encoding or something even though i've picked MPG2 standard and max quality, no difference.

:(

Not sure why the 350's TV out wouldn't look clear through SageTV. How does the 350 output look in the WinTV app?

in WinTV the picture is perfect, no problems at all with it.

So what you're telling me is that the video output on the 350 gives you different picture quality for the SAME MPEG2 quality settings in Sage versus WinTV?

things are just getting really strange now.

has anyone in PAL region noticed that everytime you start wintv or could be sage and go to the advanced control panel, the region is set to PAL_B by default? so each time i have to go back in and pick PAL_I?
