I heard there was some way to browse recordings by show type and that there were hidden features in SageTV.
How do I do this? Through Sagetv.properties?
Thanks,
Nathan

Try going to SageTV Recordings & use the Options command to see a list of listing style options.

No, I saw there was a way that you can search for shows to record and that you can search for them by Type or by Category. What you suggested, you can only show the ones you've already recorded by Type. I wanted to search shows I haven't already recorded by Type.

The default SageTV installation includes the option to browse the guide data by category that was written by mlbdude and can be enable by editing the sage.properties file.
change:
enable_mlbdude_browse_by_category=false
to:
enable_mlbdude_browse_by_category=true
If you download mlbdude stv file you can can an updated version of this and a lot of additional features.
My stv file doesn't have these as dedicated features, but you can change the grouping and sorting to achieve these and many other possibilities.
Check out the threads at the top of custom SageTV Customizations to find links to download these and other custom stv files.

Oh -- I saw "recordings", so I thought you wanted to categorize the shows already recorded. :)
I haven't used the mlbdude style of browse by category (that malore just mentioned) for a while, but if you use the malore STV (or MalDude), go check out malore's custom menus, where there are 3 guides you can configure to display the EPG in several different category styles.
Then there is the basic Search feature, which you can get to from the main menu by going to Schedule Recordings -> Search.

Yep ... This works great in MlbDude2! Easy way to serch for TV shows; just as you would Music by genre ...
I also love the Search for Movies ... One huge list of moves from the EPG ... all channels ... all times for the next 2 weeks.
Can't beat that ... :nono:
