I have been working for two days now trying to get the SAGE TV program control my Sony Satellite receiver. I am getting close, but still seem to be missing a piece of the puzzle. I am new to this, so should you reply, please don't assume too much about what I might know.

I have sucessfully used the Direct TV Control application to control my sat receiver. And finally, it seems that I can control the receiver with the SAGE TV application, but only if I have the DirecTV Control.exe running and minimized. I have several questions:

1. Does Sage TV require the DirecTV Control.exe program to be running in order to control a satellite via serial port?

2. Other than making the registry entries for the EXE Tuner plug-in and making sure it is in the Frey/Common directory, is there anything else that has to be done with it?

3. Is there anywhere I can find a step-by-step installation with the necessary files in order to use DTVCon to send commands to the serial port?

4. Is Girder another possibility, or is it somehow required even if I use DTVCon?

I'm sorry if I don't know the right questions to ask, but I feel I am close to getting things to work, but not quite there.

Thanks for any help you can offer.

I should also mention that I am running Windows XP and using the WinTV PVR-250 Card.

Did you ever answer these questions? I've just downloaded SageTV and I plan to control a Sony Directv unit as well. I'm new to all of this and I have some of the same questions.

So what's the best setup for controling a Sony Directv rcv. with SageTv. I have an EPIA M9000 computer with a Hauppauge PVR-350 card.

dash, it's built into sage now. provided your sony is supported (which it should be) all you really have to do is hook the cable up, fire sage up and surf away.

Your are correct sir. I got my cable hooked up and it worked as you said. This is really cool. Now if I can just figure out this remote I'll be in high cotton.
