ALL I want is a right-click content menu. Why is this (apparently) so hard to do? I just want to have the ability to right click on a listing and go to "record, watch now (if in current time slot), etc." if in live guide, or "Watch, delete and clear watched, delete and set watched, etc." if in recordings screen. I guess it isn't possible, but with everything else Studio can apparently do, I'm not sure why. Thoughts? (And am I the only one who cares about this?!?)
I'm not really sure what you are asking for other than wanting to use the right mouse button instead of the left one. Otherwise, SageTV does what you are asking already (just with the left button instead of the right one).

He wants a right-click context sensitive pop-up menu. It isn't impossible to do, but no one has had time to do that, I suppose. I would like that in the default STV too.

Ok, I understand what you mean now. Although I don't see where that would be much different than how it currently operates. Either way you would have to have a way to back out of it. So, unless I'm totally missing the concept here it ends up working the same in the end.

Hmm, It may not be impossible but might be difficult to do the way he wants. I would think it would have to be done via an options menu and it would not be like traditional windows like right clicking.

(Or, the pop-up could be auto-dismissed as soon as you make a selection, but I would prefer that it stay there for further use.)
It would be a lot of work to do this for each menu (instead of just using the current generic Options menu that most screens use), which is why I think it isn't currently in there... especially since the functionality is accessible by other means.

Well, I think he only wants it in 2 places: the LiveGuide and the Recordings Screen. However, as mls already brought up, implementign it in teh Recordings screen seems a little redundant since you get similar options by left clicking and getting to the Detailed Info screen

What I meant is that in traditional right clicking you can click any where else and the menu closes. I dont think thats possible (I could be wrong). It would effectively just be another way to lauch an options menu (like when you hit Ctrl + O). You would have to make a selection or click a cancel.

I don't get this concept of what you're trying to do here? First by using the right mouse button you'd loose the "quick navigation" many STVs have. I'm also not sure what you gane over using the left mouse button. Could you explain in greater detail what this accomplishes?

Yeah, Opus has it. The idea is to eliminate the switching to another screen. It seems unneccesary and cumbersome (albeit to a very minor extent). It's just (for me) a minor annoyance to have to click on an item and have it switch to another screen entirely, then have to back out of it to get exactly back to where I was. With a context menu on right click, I could do what I wanted and not leave the current screen. Moving "back" from an options page is not the most intuitive thing. Whether this menu would be auto-closing or (as Opus suggests) close on another right mousedown, I think it would be very helpful.
An example situation: I want to set a given show to record (say, CSI at 9pm Thursday). In order to do so, I have to click into the options screen, tell it to record, etc. However, in some cases, in doing so I may remember that I think North Shore is on at the same time, and I may want to record that instead, since my TiVo may be set to record CSI. But I'm not entirely sure if I have the time slot for NS correct. So then I have to back out of the options menu, check the time slot, then decide which I want to record, then back into options to set to record. With a right click context menu, I could just do it with one click and a quick glance.
May seem like a minor thing, but when everything else in Windows has right-click context menus, it would seem intuitive to do it (and thus counterintuitive not to). I constantly find myself naturally right clicking, but getting the stupid background display menu (does anyone really use it that often that it needs to be on a right-click menu?). Part of my own stupidity, I know (no arguments there), but it still seems like it makes sense to have this as an option.
Currently, I would only really use it for the recordings and guide sections, but it would seem logical to have it as an option for ALL menus (again, it's running is Windows), rather than navigating through tons of sub-screens. Just my .02 cents, but I really would like to see it implemented, by someone, at some point. If Studio were out I would do it myself, but currently that's not an option. :nono:
