First mungo kudos for the STV work! Upgraded my Server and HTPC Client to Sage 2.1.10 this morning then a couple hours later after some all okie-dokie testing downloaded and installed Cayars14 STV on Client. All seems functional except some problems or settings not right for Comskip. I manually fired comskip off on a couple previously recorded shows. Seemed to do it's thing. (Note: I haven't previously played with stand alone comskip) Later checked viewed a show and it had purple section where commercials are but doesn't jump through. Checked two shows, same thing. Is there some setting or settings I'm missing? I waded through 40 some of the 50+ pages of the Cayars14 STV thread and didn't find the answer. I did also enable comskip in setup but not sure if it was before or after comskip processing the two shows checked.

In the comskip settings, make sure you have enabled "Use OSD AutoSkip". Then, while watching a recording, right-click or push options on the remote and enable Auto skip there as well.

I did try to use LiveTV commercial skip, but I cant figure out how to use it? can anyone help? I have my comm.ini file with proper setting, and in Cayars14 I have also that enabled, but I dont see bars with comm skip as I do see this while watching earlier recorded shows.
Anyone can give me ideas how to do this?
Thanks.

:thumb: Thanks, that did the trick.
New question. Currently Cayars14 STV with integrated comskip installed on dedicated Client, not on dedicated Server. For stability I've always kept my Sage Server doing nothing but running Sage (now running as service, sweet :goodjob: .) If I run Cayars STV on Server will comskip be available as an automatic option for new recordings? (Vast majority recordings via Fav's) Currently don't see how as a recording option which makes sense since comskip not on Server. I don't mind messing around with Client trying stuff but don't like to make changes on Server needlessly, it's just been so rock solid stable and don't want to tempt fate. If somehow screwed up the 800G or so currently recorded Debi kill me! :gun:

These can be mapped to your remote from the detailed settings.

You will get the same options as on the client. If you enable comskip while recording in the detailed options/comskip options, Cayar's STV will start comskip as soon as a recording starts.
It doesn't really matter where it runs from as long as it is emabled in only one place (I'm guessing here) and the system you choose to run it from has the processing power to run it.
My server is a P3 1Ghz with 3 tuners. If I were to enable Cayer's comskip options there a single comskip would be too much for it. With 3 tuners it is possible to record 3 shows at one time and thus Cayer's STV would start 3 instances of comskip. That would bring the server to it's knees so I run it on a client.
Running it from a client has its tradeoffs too. Main one being that comskip will have to read the .mpg over the network. So, if you are watching somehing on the client and also have comskip working, you will have one network stream for what is playing and one network stream for each instance of comskip.

Hmmm, since often have 3 or 4 shows recording at the same time while watching something else doesn't sound like a good idea to try on main Client. Maybe time to install another Client on my main workstation (AMD XP3200+) and let it handle comskip.

I wondered about running comskip from multiple Clients simultaneously. Last night tried to fire comskip off from my Wife's workstation while already processing from HTPC Client and got failed error. Didn't know if problem on her PC installation/setup or what now guess I know!

Even though bandwidth not an issue (1Gb hard wired) HTPC Client not my most powerful processor at the moment, plus I usually turn it off at night, so if comskip turns out to be something we want to use, and looks like it is, time to buy another Client license just for comskp processing which kind of sucks but oh well... :nono:

Guys, only one show will be process at a time (per computer) in my STV unless you manually kick off comskip.
It's also OK to run from MULTIPLE clients at the same time as long as you are running version 14 or higher of my STV. I sometimes have ComSkip running on 4 or 5 computers and I haven't had any problems.

Thanks, I'm not sure where I got the idea that it would run multiple instances of comskip. I think I may have extrapolated from the fact that it will kick off an instance as soon as a show started recording and the fact that I have multiple tuners.
It's good to hear that multiple clients can run comskip simultaneously without conflicts. I was unsure about that and why I said I was taking a guess.

I'm not exactly sure what you mean by manually kick off comskip. I just initiated comskip on 6 previously recorded shows via right click in malore recordings menu via Client. Checked processes running, multiple comskip instances getting various changing % of cpu usage, approaching 100% total cpu most of the time. Doesn't bring Client to its kness however, can still negotiate menus etc. and checked playback of another previously recorded show, no problem. Oh, and that's also with 3 shows recording currently on the Server... BTW, Server robustness wise earlier 5 shows where recording at the same time while watching previously recorded from Client, no problem. (comskip not processing at that time) Oh, had to be watching previously recorded with 5 records going, ran out of tuners.

That was a manual comskip detection you did. When you specifically use a button to kick it off then it's manual and the STV will start a ComSkip process running. On the other hand if you just wait and let the system do it on it's own then only one instance will be running.

I currently use Girder to send the command sequence <TIMESKIP>, <FORWARD>, <TIMESKIP> to jump ahead about a commercial's length. I can change it to just jump ahead using "]". My question is this: Is there a way to use "]" if there are commercial breaks, and time skip otherwise?

Does comskip change the file structure?
I would like to give this program a try but since I edit out the comercials in VDUB and recompress using Xvid I heard that it changes the file structure.

ComSkip doesn't change you MPG files at all. All it does is read them them, do some processing and write out a text file with the commercials marked.
ComSkip doesn't change the media file in any way, shape or form.
